Syncing carbs is literally plugging in 4 hoses and twisting a knob...removing the plastics is the hardest part lolz
@Northern_4 жыл бұрын
I mean, you say syncing carbs sounds like a "huge pain in the dingus" but ITBs on FI bikes need to be synced too. The big difference is that FI bikes are almost always newer than carbed bikes, so they haven't has as much time for someone to fuck with them and get in a situation where they need to be synced.

Those Honda Nighthawk 650 and 750 bikes are the only 4 cylinder bikes I've come across that have hydraulic lifters. (That means, on a spectrum from nut and stud, to desmosodohno valve adjustments, they are even easier to do. There is no valve adjustment. Just check the cam chain tensioner from time to time.) Add in air cooling and you have a bike that is absolutely as simple as it can be with four cylinders and carburetors. The yamaha non r6 was made as a competitor for the Suzuki Katana.

Carbs are not that bad. Mine were cleaned 3 years ago after 10 years of sitting with fuel in the system at the previous owner, and haven't had serious problems since. Essentially you get them cleaned and adjusted by a professional once if you get a sketchy bike, and then forget about them for years. Doing it yourself can be daunting, not recommended for someone without experience. The benefit of carbs is that they offer an incredibly raw, unfiltered experience, compared to modern bikes with injection, and make the engine do exactly what you tell it to. Great fun.

I was hoping you guys would do a review on the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, it seems to me like a great beginner bike and one which you can grow with, the aftermarket is exploding with bolt on's, 750 & 850 big bore kits, cams etc. It's a whole lot cheaper than a Bonnie plus you get a 3 year warranty. Keep up the good work! Cheers Chris

My neighbor just put one of the trike conversion kits on his Harley. The kind that keeps the rear wheel of the bike and adds two more wheels. He took it back off a week later lmao!!
@bigj2000164 жыл бұрын
The 96 CI HD motor came out in early 00s (first twin cam line) so it’s probably a 15 year old bike at newest. Trike conversions aren’t cheap but kits are out there for all the touring lines and even sportsters (though why anyone would want to trike a sporty is beyond me). The Willie G skull are standard H-D part design for purchase later. Not my cup of tea, but I don’t judge anyone else’s tastes. I wouldn’t pay extra for the trike kit and if I was going to buy, I’d be looking at it as a 15 year old street glide, and would offer accordingly. This guy would be lucky to get 10 for it.

4 carbs is beyond a nightmare. I have a XJ750 Midnight Maxim, still runs...if you could call it that. Needs a specialized Yamaha JICS tool to isolate each carb, then pair a set 2x, then tune each sset to each other. Mind you, from the factory they dropped a lead fill over the micro air screw(on each carb) that once removed- CAN NEVER BE PROPERLY SET AGAIN....and after all this you need a gas analyzer to get each carb close to functional - which no shop carries anymore - and the bike is an 83 which equates to $100 minimum service charge per hour cuz REASONS. Great bike for long rides and most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. If you are not an enthusiast or mechanic...its really not worth the headache, go EFI.

Carbs ought to be fine from factory..... If you do buy a bike somebody screwed with, here is a " Hack". Ensure carbs are clean, all jetted the same etc. Use a fine wire to gauge the lead carb butterfly gap at idle position to carb body , set all the rest to the wire in turn as directed by manual. This will get you close enough for everything but racing. No mercury gauges needed. Not a big deal.
