In my opinion, everything is explained in the movie if you can pick up on the hints. This is not a zombie virus where people eat each other. It is very clear they do not know exactly how the virus works, as the father stated it took less than a day for the grandfather to show symptoms. However, the virus doesn't just infect and kill you in a day. It probably takes weeks. The first onset of symptoms was paranoia, hallucinations, and sleep walking. The final stages was boils, black eyes, and black tar. The tar is likely evident that the body was dying on the inside because people do cough up a black tar like substance whenever they have a serious liver problem, this could also be an excuse for why the eyes turn black. The reason for burning the body is not because they're trying to keep the dead from rising, but rather kill the virus. This technique has been done for thousands of years when there is plague outbreak. The grandfather caught the illness first, then gave it to the dog, then the dog gave it to Travis. The whole family was sick, but they did not know because they didn't know what all the symptoms were. The family they took in probably caught the virus from them. This seems apparent when the mother of Andrew stated he didn't sleep walk. But he did, when he moved into the house. The dog never saw anything, he was hallucinating. The question is, how did the dog get injured and get into the room? There is a room before the red door. If you notice in one scene, the two mothers take boards down off of a window. It wouldn't make sense to pull the boards down in the main house, but what about the room before the main house? As stated in the movie, humans will do anything when paranoid. Seeing paranoia is a symptom, it probably influenced the dog to jump through the window and he cut himself. Now, who opened the door? There is a point where the father stated only he and his wife had a key to the door. Travis more than likely got one of the keys and opened the door while sleep wallking. Or it could have been one of the parents as they would not know they were sleep walking. Unfortunately, they were all going to die anyways because they were already infected.

i think by "it" they mean the disease. You know you have the disease if you get those nightmares that Andrew and Travis had. The fear is that the sickness starts at night, when the nightmares come.
@sweetcinnamonpnchkin6 жыл бұрын
Good thought there. My thought was that the nightmares just started out as that: nightmares. But, as the son’s fear grew, the nightmares began to blend into reality. Soon, the son couldn’t tell the difference. We, the audience, were the only ones who could piece together reality and dreams. Notice how the red door was closed and then finally opened? That’s where the son had completely lost the difference between his nightmares and reality. Now this could have been said in the video already but I haven’t listened to it just yet. I say this was a brilliant movie.

I disagree I think Travis was infected this entire time, hear me out, he cant sleep at night very well and he has fever dreams, Travis mentioned that his grandpa ''BUD'' was unable to sleep too and would sleepwalk during the last week of his life and often forget where he was or what he was doing,. When Paul ask if Andrew sleepwalks both his mother and father deny it offensively Strongly suggesting that sleepingwalking is a symptom of the sickness that and Andrew also mentioned he cannot renmber what happened, MEMORY loss is also a symptom. Travis infected Andew how did Travis got infected? Stanley, Stanley was his grandfather's dog and continued sleeping on his bed most likely got infected that way and infected Travis. The dog probally had fever dreams as well and got paranoid and THATS why it run into the woods, Some of Travis fever dreams are NOT fever dreams they are in fact scenes of what really happened, Travis opened the red door as it was established that Andew was far to small to unlock it anyway, Travis had contact with the dying Stanley and then went back into the house and most likely forgot about it. (the sickness probally works as a parasite, that can mess with its host brain in order to make more people sick) in the end who opened the red door wasnt't important anymore because all of them were infected and the sickness just worked slower or faster at some people. What ''comes '' at night? pure and simple the Symptoms of the infection: Fever Dreams, Memory Loss and Sleep walking

This is my super long explanation of how I interpreted the film! I actually have my own different interpretation of the movie. I do agree that the film is truly about how these characters deal with the shitty post apocalyptic world. However, I believe the film is mostly shown from the perspective of Travis. If you pay close attention to the “nightmares” Travis has the aspect ratio is slightly smaller separating itself from other scenes. I believe that these are actually not all dream sequences. In a brief scene between Travis and Kim, Travis isn’t able to recall how long it’s been since he was able to sleep. I believe that Travis has insomnia and loss of time. He isn’t able to separate reality from his nightmares. These scenes with the red lantern are all what he perceives. Some of which are fantasy and some reality. The sequence where Travis is outside looking for the dog is something he doesn’t know if it’s real or not. I believe that this truly did happen and he is the one who opened the red door, not Andrew. This leads to Andrew and Will’s family becoming infected. The final 15 or so minutes all have an even smaller aspect ratio after you see Travis struggling to understand what is going on between the two families outside and the screams and gunshots he hears. His subconscious guilt of not truly knowing whether or not he is the cause of the chaos is the reasoning behind the aspect ratio shrinking even more. When it comes to the IT in the title I believe IT is the fear, guilt and confusion Travis has when it comes to the night time. He has no control over himself every night whether it’s because he sleep walks or he loses the time he spends wondering around at night mistaking it with nightmares. This would also follow the theme of how these characters react within this world. Paul was a school teacher who became very paranoid and overly protective as you said. Will isn’t afraid to lie and keep secrets to protect his family and Travis essentially loses his mind being driven insane by his fears. That’s what I picked up from the film on first and second viewing. I absolutely loved this film and wish there were more like it. Also one more thing. I do think there is something out in the woods because in a scene with Paul and Travis, Travis is drawing these monsters in the woods. Maybe he has seen them in his nightmares aka his wondering at night and is drawing what he saw. Anyways if you or anyone else actually read this entire thing thanks! Spent some time on this. Keep up the great content!

I have another potential theory... Travis says he's been having trouble sleeping for some time now, and frequently gets up at night and wanders around the house. What if the dream he had where he goes outside because he hears Stanley barking and then is horrified by what he sees isn't a dream? What if he actually leaves the house, finds Stanley in some stage of half sleep, and brings him back into the house? This would make Travis the one who brings the sickness into the house, and then he has contact with Andrew who was sleeping in Bub's room, getting him sick as well. Andrew is younger so maybe the symptoms show up in him first. I think this theory has some potential because Will and Kim say that Andrew is barely tall enough to even unlock the red door. Even if he did, how would Stanley come inside? And how was the outside door even opened, I thought Paul was the only one to have the keys? I think the fact that Will and Kim were adamant Andrew didn't open the door, and that he doesn't sleepwalk might hold some merit, because even until the end Will tried as hard as possible to not hurt them in anyway (he lowered his gun first). The sketchiest thing I saw from them was when Will said he had a brother, but later said it was a brother in law. A awkward thing to say, but it might've been true. So basically I think Travis was the one sleepwalking and let the sickness in.

It's worth noting that the two men who attacked Will and Paul while they were driving looked very much like father and son. There was a semi-long shot of their faces in the "tree trunk" grave-one looked about 60, the other around 30-with similar features. Why would Shults (the director/writer) focus on this? A lot of people think this movie is all about fear, paranoia and survival, and yes, this movie certainly had those elements but I think all of that stems from the relationship between father and son (Shults wrote this while grieving his father's death). We will do anything for our child to the detriment of others. Our "love" for our own kids is actually decaying society as a whole. Maybe Travis' worst nightmare was to become like his father. The red door could mean death but it could also be symbolic for innocence. You open and pass through it and you're infected. There's no return. Where did all the killings happen? Outside the red door. Anyway, I thought this was a well-crafted film. It lost a little momentum around the 1/3 mark but picked up again. It's not for everybody but I will be thinking about it for weeks.

We know Travis' entire family is infected, including even the dog. We do not know when or how, we do not know the vectors or incubation period. They may even all be infected at the beginning of the movie before Will even shows up. If you look at Travis', his dad's, and the dog's behavoir we may have to assume that erratic behavior is a symptom including paranoia, hysteria, hallucinations and, with Travis, night terrors, i.e. the IT that comes at night. There is no evidence of zombies or monsters other than the imaginings of Travis' family, again including the dog barking and running after nothing apparently. To me the most important question is Who let the dog into the house? Will asks the obvious question as to whether Travis opened the red door, but perhaps prudently does not ask the next obvious question Who opened the outer door? Will knows and we know the outer door is always locked and only the father or mother would have the only key. Will bristles when asked about Andrew's sleepwalking because he sees the wheels turning in the father's mind, whose attitude appears to be best shoot and burn then ask question later. And I think it is dawning on Will that only Travis, but more likely the father or mother could have let the dog in, and that he has brought his family into a house of infected that have lost touch with reality, maybe something he has seen before at the last place they stayed. Hence, his decision to get out of dodge, but knowing in their madness that the family would rather kill them then let them leave. I think the real twist is we saw Travis and his family as the protagonists, the ones trying to survive the horrors of this new world, but really they were already infected, it was Will and his family who had a chance to make it, but unfortunately got caught in the downward spiral of Travis and his family.

Travis’ last dream when he goes out to find Stanley and gets attacked was real. He sleepwalks, finds Stanley and runs back to the house when something infects him. He doesn’t close the red door behind him and goes to bed. He wakes up again to find Andrew in Bud’s bedroom having a nightmare. When they take care of Stanley, Travis realises what he has done and feels guilty over giving the virus to Andrew and comes to the conclusion quickly from hearing the family from the attic. I have a very odd theory about this movie. I think that at the start of the film Travis is infected. Now Paul says that Grandpa had symptoms after 1 day of potentially being infected, however I think there is a big period of the disease giving you neurological symptoms. Essentially his dreams and insomnia are a way of showing his psychological breakdown, on top of that I think he said he was having the nightmares more recently. By the time Andrew is sleepwalking it is showing that he is in fact infected as well, he even said he had a bad dream or something. The physical effects of the disease are towards the end but there is a long period of signs showing you are sick before that. Andrew wasn't breaking out at the end of the movie, his parents didn't want him to see Will pulling a gun on someone or the possible violence.
@dawngranquist82507 жыл бұрын
ironwolf113 I agree. I am feeling the same way. It is possible that when Will tells his son Andrew to close his eyes, it was to prevent him from seeing the scary scene of Will holding a gun against Paul. Especially since Andrew was only a little boy. Not once do we actually ever see Andrew's eyes, so it is possible that he was never infected after all. Perhaps Paul, his wife & son Travis were actually the ones infected first. I think there are different ways to interpret the film.
@owen5517 жыл бұрын
I agree that Andrew probably wasn't sick. Kim was holding him right up to her chest and hugging him. If he was sick and she wasn't then why would she risk infection like that? We are able to see Kim's eyes and she appears healthy. Also why would they demand half of the supplies if they knew at least 2 of them were going to die within a day?
@dawngranquist82507 жыл бұрын
Owen_newO Very good points. And then when Will cracked open the door, after Paul insisted he let him in to see Andrew, Will could see Paul dressed up with the gas mask on, and most likely knew what Paul was planning to do to them, if he thought they were infected.
@dawngranquist82507 жыл бұрын
ironwolf113 It is possible that Travis was actually the one that opened the red door & not Andrew. Also, even if it turned out Andrew was infected, he started having nightmares & sleepwalking just like Travis. Which again shows that it is possible Travis was already infected, since he'd had nightmares & was sleepwalking throughout the film.
@realghostboii7 жыл бұрын
ironwolf113 I had something similar, that the dog started out with it. The dog was the grandpas, we know this because Travis says "I'll take care of you now." Or something like that. The dog runs off because he sees a hallucination and runs after it. Travis has all the beginning symptoms, nightmares, sleepwalking, etc.

@@jordymorgan3681 I think it's the closest tree to the dog on the right? There is definitely someone behind the tree. Not to mention when the dog runs away and Travis chases his dog, he stops because he hears a really weird noise coming from the forest. Maybe there really is something evil out there. Still not convinced there is no creature, well yeah there is none poping up, but i feel there is something thats not told, in the scene where they drive in the forest Will and Paul you can clearly see a silhouette of a man sitting, what about the scene where Travis is drawing some form of aliens or goverment people and where he stops and looks at the tree for a moment clearly sees something there. The story is up for the viewer too decide and thats what makes it a great movie.

Whatever Will did, it was problematic enough that had to lie about it, so he couldn't be trusted.

Really refreshing to see a focus on the characters rather than the infection for once.

Just watched this thought-provoking movie. I'm still trying to figure it out. I'm not so convinced Andrew was sick. Yes, his dad told him to keep his eyes covered; but you would tell your young son to close his eyes too, if you felt a violent altercation was about to ensue. But on that note, I'm also not so sure everyone, including the dog, wasn't already sick anyway. We know that no one actually knows how the illness works, so you can't rule out that possibility. Still, to your theory's credit, Andrew was crying a lot when Travis was eavesdropping, which the sickness would explain.
@TonyJBroni10 ай бұрын
I think proof that Andrew was sick: the memory loss, him being in another room with no explanation, and finally when he was saying "get out" over and over again. I think he was having his version of the nightmares that Travis was experiencing. So, when Will was saying Andrew had a bad dream, it was that and a symptom of infection as well.

If they want a simple how does a film end they can go ask on a forum site or google it but explaining the ending to a film suggests he has to reference certain points in the film. Its a catch 22 situation between both arguments. Regardless of that though it is a shame he cannot do this stuff on current cinema releases as it would make it easier to decide if its worth going to the cinema to see some films.

Or, Travis was the one infected. He did share a room with his grandfather and the dog. Think about it: We don't know much about the disease or really how long it takes to really start showing symptoms. My guess is that one can be infected and not show symptoms for a while and others will show them right away. I would think someone with a weaker immune system or older one, like the grandfather, would show them much quicker than would Travis and Andrew whose immune systems are stronger. As far as "it" that would be referring to one of the symptoms which we are led to think is sleepwalking. Think about this: Travis is the one having the "nightmares" and dream sequences. Now, while anyone can say that is a normal reaction to the events going on around him and is a normal coping mechanism, they could also be a significant symptom given that the sleepwalking occurs at night which explains the "it" comes at night as being an indicator that someone is infected and wasn't there some talk about the grandfather walking in his sleep? They even made a deal of it when Andrew was found in Travis's room and kept asking the other family if he walks in his sleep and I know from having a small child his age that at times they will not so much walk in their sleep but do things that kids that age normally will do because that is what they are told such as going to the bathroom. It's unclear as to whether or not what facilities are available and where they are located and a kid his age would have been told to get up at night and would not really understand the totality of the situation they are in because of his age. Plus, Travis and Andrew did develop a little bond and it is not uncommon for a kid Andrew's age to want to be closer to the one closest to his age which would be Travis and it is not that uncommon that Andrew would want to be with Travis. To me, all of the adults are ignoring some basic things and reasoning here. As for Will "lying" about his brother, Will never said his "brother" was his biological brother. In fact, it really was/is not that uncommon for only children to "adopt" friends and others as brothers or sisters and didn't Kim say they had been together since they were Travis's age about 16? That makes sense that he would think of her family as his, so that can explain that part of it, so we really do not know if Will was just intentionally lying to Paul. As an only child, I have done this myself as all my old friends I consider life my family. Also, explain to me how the hell Andrew would have been able to reach up to unlock everything? Also explain how the hell he would know HOW to unlock everything? Didn't Travis go out looking for his dog without his parents knowing about it? Could it be possible that he was sleepwalking or went out to look, forgot or didn't lock up, Andrew woke up and went to the other room, Travis didn't see him then Travis wakes up, goes out to look, sees Andrew while not paying much attention to the door, puts him back in bed then goes out again and notices that the door was open? None of that makes any sense that a small child would have the logical cranial functioning to wake up, get a chair or stool, somehow figure out how to unlock all those locks (which he would need a key for) go put the chair/stool back where he got it without waking anyone up, then just to fake out everyone go in another room and fall asleep? Hell, this kid is wasting his talents then and should be working for the CIA if he can do all of that. No, Travis either fucked up and didn't remember or was too afraid to tell his already paranoid parents what happened or he was infected and didn't realize it and opened the door himself and didn't remember. Regardless your review and evaluation does not make much sense considering that Will and his family did not kill Paul's and did not want to rob or take anything from them. It would be one thing is they, bit by bit took the keys, got food and hid it and supplies and hid it without anyone finding it out, which seems unlikely given Paul is super paranoid at this point and would obviously hear them, and have them sneak away. Besides, didn't Paul say that from now on only he and Will should go outside? Yes, the lines are on IMDB. So, Paul could have given him the gun and we just not see it. AND, Will and Kim just wanted to leave. They didn't want anything except a couple day's rations, they did not want the vehicle, they just wanted to leave, so it makes no sense for Paul to have killed the family and NO, Will did not pick the fight here, no one picked the fight because you are ignoring the most obvious and scariest thing about this film: the fact that Paul and his family have been living on total fear and paranoia for a while and for so long that they have become the "monsters." It was unnecessary for Paul to kill the other family period. It was the complete fear and paranoia that was the "it" that accompanied the movie because after Will's family are dead, what happens? Travis becomes infected and Paul and Sarah are left with the guilt that they killed another family when all along it was probably Travis who was sleepwalking and was the one who left the door opened which led up to the final act of murder and Paul and Sarah are left to think about it and live with it. This does not make Travis the bad guy here because what happens at night is that his dreams are very lucid and he starts sleepwalking which we are led to believe are a part of the affliction or disease and that it only occurs at night and possibly is something nocturnal. The nocturnal element is something that has not been discussed either as there is something known as "sun-downing" where a person's cognitive reasoning and capabilities deteriorate as the sun goes down, probably due to the conversion of serotonin into melatonin or an abnormal metabolite of serotonin into something else that is close to melatonin.

This movie reminds me of Hidden which has a similar vibe but that one there is a reveal at the end. This movie was not bad; liked how even with all their precautions the failure was all on them still. Dog untrained, lock on doors not secure in a way that would keep someone from opening it easily. Not patting down everyone entering the house and making sure all clothes and equipment was checked. Wrong weapons for something as dangerous as a highly contagious disease.

This is kind of a late comment (only saw the movie yesterday and I loved it), I noticed that towards the climax when Will is holding Paul at a gunpoint on the staircase, he says this: "We just want to leave. And we want what's fair, enough for the both of us, and you'll never see us again." I might have interpreted it wrong, but for me it seemed weird that Paul said "for the both of us" instead for "all three of us" or something in that sense. It seemed as though Andrew was really infected, and that Will already counted on killing him after they left the house, and was only referring to "the both of us" as only him and Kim.

At first, for some weird reason, I took it as him meaning Will and Paul and that it encompassed their families. Like, him saying, "For the both of us." And the look he gave Paul was like he was hoping he'd understand he wouldn't take all of it, he'd leave enough so both of their families could have food. But I also forgot about that line in the climax of them dying, lol. So thinking about it now doesn't make sense. Your theory makes so much more sense, so it kinda proves that Andrew WAS infected. And that's heartbreaking. :(

I loved the movie but definitely expected more. A broader picture of the infection that led everyone to their precautions.
@dougalross65227 жыл бұрын
I took it that Andrew was not infected and they were trying to leave because they knew that Travis was infected, probably from retrieving his dog (so Travis was the one who opened the door). The whole movie was spent building distrust for Will and his family and the viewer naturally sides with Paul's family having been introduced to them first. It is never shown that Andrew was actually sick, only implied. Will's family tries to leave making you think that they are trying to protect the sick Andrew, things get out of had and then Paul murders them only to have it revealed that it was Travis who was sick and Paul murdered 3 healthy people who were trying to escape them.

Water idea is pointless. They simple use dirty water source and best way to purification it is steaming (heavy metals etc) or filtering. They dont simple boil it cus theres still dirt inside.
@hartianx16985 жыл бұрын
That's why you filter and then boil.
@caleblumbard71675 жыл бұрын
HartianX seriously, have these people never gone camping. in a post apocalypse world, i would definitely do both steps
@insertname16675 жыл бұрын
Minority Man I mean they probably haven't as it's a rather niche hobby and even for those who do, most don't camp long enough that they'd have to rely on natural water sources rather than what ever water they bring with them.

Following on from some great ideas I have seen on here and other places, I have my theories. *SPOILERS* I will try to cover as much as I can, and this film is a mind-bender. It is entirely up to your personal experience of the movie and what you interpret (as the director intended), but this is what I think: Travis - It is clear from the opening sequence in which the Grandfather dies that Travis doesn’t handle things well emotionally, expressed by his mothers concern for him having witnessed the death. We then go on to find out later in the film in a conversation with Will’s wife that Travis cannot remember how long he’s been having issues with sleep, a clear indication of the sheer confusion of reality and fantasy caused by his insomnia, being driven mad by fear and paranoia. The aspect ratio is, what we seem to perceive, as a clear indication of a dream sequence. However, going by the aspect ratio (and music) being used in the final, very much real scene in which Will and his family try to escape, an overlap occurs. Perhaps a symbolic indication of Travis’ nightmares being embodied in the now reality, or perhaps evidence of the constant confusion of what is dream and what is reality? What I am really trying to say is we cannot trust Travis’ perception, what may be a dream, may in fact be a reality and vice versa. The Door - Okay this leads me on to the big scene, the central focus of many theories. It is made clear upon the arrival of Will’s family that the only way in and out of the house is via the keys that remain in Paul/Sarah’s possession. It appears that they are on Paul’s nightstand at this point. It seems odd that Andrew could get the keys and in fact reach the locks on both doors and exit the house entirely, thus, letting in Stanley, and subsequently get the illness. What seems more probable is that the dream sequence in which Travis leaves the house to find the dog, was, in some respect real. He got the keys from his parents, took the lantern to find the dog and brought/left the door open for the dog to return (Paul noted that Stanley knew his way home). I cannot pin point a reasoning behind Andrew being in the other room, a mere coincidence? However, I believe that it was not Andrew who was actually sick, but Travis, having perhaps made contact with Stanley, or whatever is capable of spreading the illness. The Monster - Another big question, what is ‘it’? Is there a monster out in the woods? what was the dog barking at? Now I noticed another comment referencing the ‘monsters’ that Travis was drawing. Indeed they are monster-like, however, the faces, in my opinion, look awfully like gas masks. Perhaps there were other people in the woods, enticing Stanley to bark at them. Another group maybe? We know there were 2 men within a short distance of the house. And in Travis’ dream like state, it is likely he would have seen them on his travels. I also think these 2 men were the reasoning behind Will having his own gun, we know Paul was shot at, however Will said the men had nothing in their possession. Overall - I think in the final sequence, Travis and his family were in fact infected. The way in which Travis ‘walked’ out the red door symbolises his death, notice the marks were not on his skin anymore. This could indicate perhaps entering into the unknown, facing his fears or dying. Whatever you perceive the door to represent. I think the disease itself manifests within the water, with ‘dirty’ being written on the water container and Will and his family didn’t choose to simply go to a local lake. They relied on the water purification system. The painting is also a clear focal point, it seems to me that the painting is the best representation we have of what is happening beyond the door. The ending is very bleak, sad and realistic. The protagonists focused to much on routine, trust and not enough on the reality of the situation.This film was unfortunately poorly marketed, and those expecting a conventional horror movie will, understandingly, be disappointed
@yasminevw34037 жыл бұрын
I completely agree, its a shame that many consumers misconceived the true meaning of the film. Its artistic and creative, as opposed to a generic horror that many people believed it would be. Thank you loads! I have so much admiration for a film that allows the viewer to form their own judgements. I think the uncertainty is perfect, and invites a brilliant diversity of theories and opinions.

Could have also been Paul since he stated only he and his wife had a key. One of the symptoms was sleep walking. He wouldn't have known if he was sleep walking.

I think Travis killed his dog and infected Andrew. I think Travis was suffering from an anxiety episode that made him forget stuff and sleep walk.
@foxamongraptors6494 жыл бұрын
They only stated that Andrew "Could barely reach" and later Will says, "He (Andrew) barely touched it." Kind of alluding to Andrew having opened the door and finding Stanley. And the thing about the door being locked... Does the red door even lock? The front door does, yes. But I don't remember them ever actually unlocking or locking the red one, just the front one... Anyway, Travis could have opened it too, I just believe that Andrew was infected when Travis found him having a nightmare. Perhaps, Stanley came back through the broken window, Andrew heard him and opened the red door. But seeing the dog in such a state scared him, he ran and hid and had a nightmare, etc.

@dangerousnoodle85596 жыл бұрын
kaysoft marie There was a scene in the movie where the two mothers took boards off of a window. Out of paranoia, one of the symptoms, the dog jumped through the window and cut himself. Also, a symptom is sleep walking. Since everyone was likely infected, Paul could have opened the door but did not know because he was sleep walking.

I completely forgot about wanting to watch this movie two years ago. Just saw it on Netflix so I watched it today. Why does no one mention before Stanley the dog runs off, while he's barking, there is someone behind a tree on the right of the dog. Looks like that person has a blue sweater and they slowly hide behind the tree but no one is actually there since Travis and the dog run by that tree but nothing is there anymore. Maybe it's pestilence, haunting and spreading the disease since in the beginning it shows that biblical painting and everyone is getting infected by what looks like a modern black death plague. Sorry, hard to put my thoughts together right now, I'm falling asleep.
@tomtomtom69704 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it was just a mistake, the dog would have definitly noticed a guy that close and the others would have spotted a dude in a blue T as well, after all they ran after the dog for a bit too

It was totally the grandfather's fault. He was lonely and also upset about being burned, so he came back as a ghost. First, ghostie gramps lured Stanley into the woods. Then he haunted Andrew, opened the door and went back into his room. (Travis found Andrew in the grandfather's room.) Travis was closest to the grandfather, so he kept intercepting the doom in his dreams. #WaitForInfection #Sabotage #FamilyReunion #CaseClosed

Did anyone else notice the theme of mirrors in the movie. There are two shots of Travis when without any explanation his actions are mirrored kind of just out of nowhere. There are also 2 men fighting 2 men in the ambush on the road and 2 families with a child in each who both get infected at the same time and then their parents also get infected.
@Kormelev7 жыл бұрын
While the ending is heavily interpreted, you left out some important details that really matter. After the scene at the end with the parents sitting at the table across from each other there is a another scene. This scene shows Travis going through the red door at night. Context and chronology are not given in this scene. I don't recall if you can hear Stanley (the dog). This information means that Travis got his family sick. What isn't clear is if Travis intentionally lied about opening the door out of fear of his Dad or if Travis thought it was a dream. It is open to debate on if Travis got Andrew sick. In the scene where Travis, in the attic, is listening to Will and his family in quarantine it is not clear if the discussion is about Paul's family being sick or if Andrew is feeling ill (but not the big sick). If Andrew just had a common cold then they could be afraid of what Paul would do in a false alarm scenario and try to leave. If they feared that Paul's family was sick then it is reasonable (not saying smart) for Will's family to decide to leave. Part of the scene with Paul and Sarah looking at each other at the end of the movie isn't just losing their son, but also murdering an entirely innocent and healthy family. They became exactly what they tried to protect against because of misunderstandings. Will isn't necessarily bad guy liar. The brother issue is a perfectly reasonable misunderstanding in normal civil society. It is only the issue of trust and society falling apart that makes such a misunderstanding dangerous. People aren't likely to change speaking habits as quickly though. Given that both men have family protection as a major motivation it makes perfect sense he would keep a weapon hidden.
@Andronty7 жыл бұрын
I think the people they kill in the forest are actually Will or Kim's father and Kim's brother, aka. Will's brother in law. They either were good people and do not know if Paul has taken Will hostage, or they were bad people and were ambushing people for their possessions before. I do not want to generalize, but experience shows "lower class" people with odd jobs usually having different ideas about laws and rules than, say, a teacher.
