Best Vietnam movie ever. It didn't glorify the war. It just showed the pain, suffering and bits of humanity that people cling to while in war for as long as they can. The mental pain of the civilians and the soldiers. Just a masterpiece. And Courtney P. Vance is the best actor

It's hard to believe the folks back home had such a hatred towards people who didn't want to be there in the first place. Was a fucked up "police action"

Hamburger Hill is a regretfully near-forgotten gem of a film. The big three are always ways talked about and celebrated (Apoc Now, Platoon Full Metal), and rightfully so. However, director John Irving did a wonderful job of depicting the futility of the US war in Vietnam. He was also blessed with having a wonderful cast of young actors many of whom have become household names. Courtney Vance (as Doc), and Steven Weber (as SSgt. Worchester) are the particular standout IMO. Great motion picture.

Apoc now shouldn’t be a “war film” because it barely is, hate when people refer to it as such. As for FMJ, only basic was good, after that it kinda went down hill.

Vance was phenomenal in this film...and Weber's telling of his coming home story, it's heartbreaking, he's so used to pain, he just says it all so plainly to maintain his sanity, "Don't Mean Nothing."

My father served and fought in the Vietnam war. He was severely traumatized. Growing up I watched him and his fellow brothers drink and cry when they got together. It brings tears to my eyes when I think about it because it was hell he said literally hell. I watched every Vietnam movie with him but this one and first blood was my favorite. The ending scene with Rambo spoke volumes and Doc reminded me of my father and he looked just like him. Till this day I stand with all the Vietnam troops. Because y'all fought a was that had nothing to do with our freedom. At the end my dad said they fought for each other and didn't care how the rest of the world felt. But he was haunted and the lost of innocence trailed him until he passed away in2004. He served his country proudly and I was proud and I'm proud of all y'all who went through this hell. Thank you for your service and bravery ❤

In my opinion having been in an ambush in Vietnam where there were wounded friends and who knows what else. I am sure those wounded probably did not live. Cant know nothin. Anyway here is a question? I still am on the books as a felon from the 70's. It was a violent assault on a Police Officer. A real scarey thing to watch myself being so violent knocking him into a ditch, jumping on him locking his weapon out of his reach. He begged me to stop beating him we would talk. I agreed and let him up, he started beating me with a long fladhlight. Lots of Police cars came, and I was kicked around a lot handcuffed on the ground...I was scared to death I would never see my infant son again if I got another DWI....Riddle..dont mean nothin because of the drug adrenaline. You are high and operating on huge doses. I never talked to anyone about the ambush in my company except one Lieutenant who came to my aid. I was sure to die in it, the bullets right at us up close was intense and a miracle us two Americans made it.....Question, riddle,...in times of stress this "combat mode" activates and one could act questionably act 1. Violently a bad person, or 2. A real PTSD reaction to fear of death of some sort, that happens. This dont mean nothin either, I say. Adrenalin the drug puts you right back there. You dont remember until triggered. I feel bad, and I am sorry and know how to avoid situations now. I dont feel good about it but wish I had training at my return to the USA. Riddle is, is one like me bad for this violent reaction, or a victim too? I could get it removed but I personally don't feel a need to, a waste of time to get it removed. I did 3 months. I had no priors. I learnd to submit to a higher power. Spare veterans, give them training. Maybe police cant call out, " are you a Veteran?" We can talk! Now! Last thought I hope is, adrenalin is a real drug, shield. Bad things "don't mean nothin." ..until post....post traumatic stress.

Hamburger Hill was more realistic but the acting was uneven. Some performances like Doc, Worcester, Franz and Don Cheadle’s character were excellent but others kinda sucked and looked like they belonged in another movie.
