The cook is forgetting that its not about what they like. Its about what the customers want. Like the chefs they are, they need to cater to the people’s needs to be successful. Its fairly easy. Fresh food is tender. Frozen always has a taste of melted ice accompanied by the taste of refrigerator that has been off , sometimes chewy from heating in the microwave for too long.

Gordon has a high expectations and some argue that it makes it unfair to people who cook food that might appeal to other people but I think his high expectations make the show more interesting. It’s what separates a normal dish from a good dish and a good dish from a amazing dish ( same thing goes for bad dishes ).

He doesn't set a high standard for these restaurants as they aren't meant to be high-class. Like, he set's requirements like: - don't use moldy food - serve fresh - don't use a microwave - serve food that tastes better than homecooked meals. These are the requirements for any restaurant to function, because if any of these factors aren't satisfied, a customer may as well eat at home and pay a tenth the price. This show may get Gordan's reputation for being extremely harsh on his grading because of other shows he's in, however, they have different contestants who are expected to be better at their jobs. His expectations their is that the meal is made almost flawlessly, so that the food is worth more the large price (unlike the maximum $30 meals at these restaurants).

No, he is not right in every case. He is picky and for the right reasons because when you go out to a restaurant you want something special. But much food he gets most people would eat when they try it at home and the was the result. It is also exaggerated for the show. And he is very biased by his personal taste. You see it when he gets served really spicy food or pine apples on pizza. He is a very good chef and what he does is great. I have a cooking book from him and tried some dishes out of it. But there are also people who like other dishes like very spicy ones with chilli peppers and so on.

@@helloweener2007 Erm pineapple on pizza is a disgrace. Anybody with any refined taste knows it is a complete travesty. Just a tacky American invention. As for really spicy food it is a reasonable complaint for a restaurant when a chef should know how to finely tune his dishes to balance flavours. too much heat is masking the flavour. It is acceptable at a Mexican street food joint or a bar putting on a hot wing challenge but not in a restaurant. I love spicy food too.
