A hero of the republic, a Jedi Knight, a Master of the Force, easily the equal of many other great masters in who's death he played a significant role. While at the time he carried out Order 66, I can imagine that Vader often thought about what COULD have been. Afterall... the true power of the Dark Side is that it's a self-feeding cycle of fear, anger and hate, all consuming and continiously self-feeding, a vicious cycle that few can truely break free of.

There is actually a canon comic that reveals that Anakin wanted to leave the Jedi order, and after the order refused Obi Wan to train Anakin outside the order, Obi Wan himself threatened to leave the order if that's what it took to fullfill Qui-Gon's wish and his own love for Anakin. The reason I write all this, is that it could be the thing Anakin references when he says "Obi Wan thought as you do"

I’ve been reading the Darth Vader comics recently and in one of them he said that he would no longer be his apprentice and tried to kill Sideous, but was overpowered by him, with Sideous forcing Vader back as his apprentice. In my opinion Luke is the only one who could turn him back to the light because he is partly Padme, and in ROTS I truly believe Padme is the only person who could've saved Anakin from the dark side. Luke is so much like Padme! Her confidence and optimism shine through him. They always knew there was good in Anakin and were determined to find it and bring it to the surface. I think Anakin heard his wife in his son’s words and it helped finally bring him back. Leia was far too much like him to have had that same effect on him, so it had to be Luke.
