Very good reasoning. I bought an HD7 for similar reasons. I wanted a utility machine that could also be used on trails. I didn't see the need to spend all the extra money to get a high horsepower fully decked out machine. The HD7 has 52 horsepower and will hit 60 mph. I rarely go faster than 30 mph on the trails in my state. I've gone through some pretty tough areas with rocks and trees while following my friends on atvs. It's a good machine.

I bought a 2017 hd8 strictly for utilitarian use. I looked around at many models and my decision came down to the best towing rates. I saw 3 videos of a guy putting a gooseneck trailer on His hd10 and towing it down flat ground. This is something I would never do but to be honest, it sold me on the towing capacity. I have a 8.5x12' utility trailer i use to haul brush off and transport firewood as well as ladders etc etc. I use this on my acerage and the families ranch. I also bought a snow blade for it as well as a tow behind box grader to main my rock drive and level dirt work. I have used it to get In between buildings, and stood in the box and on the edge of the roof rather then ladders. I've drug tree stumps off with it as well as many other tasks. As a whole it has been very handy to have. The coolant leaks I. Cold weather from the factory hose clamps is a neucence, the lack of an alternator in the winter using the snow blade is aggravating to say the least. That factory winch will tP that battery raising and lowering the blade a bunch. I bought the fully enclosed model with heat. It is louder In An enclosed cab for sure. Been looking at the kawasaki ridge solely because of the alternator and doors that open the correct direction. Try the alternator if I'm being honest. The $30k price tag is what stopped me. I belive they are all over priced. I know 2 people with the river 900's. I ha e ran them to see before I looked at the defender. The Ranger 900 is as good imo but the defender just handled better. Those two friends don't feel it or understand what I meant by that as it is simply a personal preference.
