My uncle Jake's Massey had this pipe set up. The pipe came off the manifold and went down under the right side foot pads and hung just under it and a piece of pipe went out just behind the rear axle with a turn down. Reason it broke is the weight of the muffler and pipe hanging off the manifold has no hanger to keep it from vibrating, cut the second angle elbow off that turns up turn the 1st pipe down add a extension run it under the foot pad add a hanger on both ends of the muffler no more broke pipes. Do it right the first time will give it more resale value.

Great content! I have a Massey Ferguson 65 as well down here in the land of Oz. Mines a couple of years younger and is a mark 2 with a Perkins diesel. Keep up the great work and ignore the Neh sayers, you're doing and awesome job. It's not easy working a farm let alone recording it as well. OK, you already heard that you need to brace that exhaust and replace those shifter boots. Many years ago I bought an old Ford 8NA.. the hydraulics were slow and weak. I was advised to drain the hydraulics and run a few gallons of kerosene thru. I did this for about 15 minutes, raising and lowering the lift arms. Drained the kerosene, filled it with new hydraulic fluid and it ran just great for the next 30 years.

Tractor should have an underslung exhaust mounted to the running board. That chopped up mess put way to much leverage on that flange causing it to break. Without that muffler supported away from the flange will only break again, if not breaking the exhaust manifold.

There's a lot of ways your hydraulic fluid can become milky. One is just condensation in the tractor.. not running to optimum temperature and drying out or evaporating the moisture. I've seen shift lever boots cracked and allow moisture in as well. My advice to anyone, store your tractor indoors and always run it at optimum temperature.
@chasnelson57533 жыл бұрын
you can add rubbing alcohol to the fluid , bindings the water and evaporateing the water easily 🤠

Shift lever boots and the draft control spring boot are the two main areas I've seen that go bad and cause water to get into hydro oil. Nice video!
@richardstarke40933 жыл бұрын
Worked for Massey dealer the shift lever boots and draft sencing spring are the problem. Has a brass strainer on internal hydraulic pump that is accessible through pto lever plate. Will have the top of strainer safety wired. The top will screw off once safety is cut. If you decide to remove seat and lift top cover assy remove cover plate on right side (response control cover) and remove roller from pump control valve lever. If you do not do this the response valve will not clear and dislodge control valve lever and mess up valve. Do not use a car muffler. Get a. vertical tractor muffler that has stronger internial reinforcement on inlet side. Those castiron manifolds fatigue over time and become brittle. Heating and cooling process. Invest in a IT tech manual about $35.00 at Tractor Supply.

If you cannot find any visible cracks or bad gaskets where water could find its way into the transmission case, check the shifter boot. And if that's good it is most likely from years of hot and cold swings causing condensation inside the transmission case

Hi, we have diesel version of this beast for 60 years (perkins) but atleast at our mf65 mark 2 there is a hydraulic filter, its under your seat, inside with pto gears etc. there is a hard way to change it thru inspection cover, left side, hard part is that the pto lever is there and it's really hard to get the pto shaft back to its place. We have just taken the seat out and cover from the top and change it that way, also cover seals needs to be changed if you do this. Greetings from Finland

The reason that the exhaust broke at the manifold to begin with is that the exhaust line was unsupported and it caused the connection to fatigued and break over some time. Remedy that with a brace on the exhaust where it connects with the muffler and goes verticle. It shouldn't give you any troublle after that.
@mikegrant84903 жыл бұрын
He might find a weldment somewhere in line with the original exhaust system. Drill and tap back into that and mount the brace for a clean and strong fix. I'd grind off those extended muffler clamp bolts, too. "Arm rippers" exposed when you are reaching around on some other repair.

Maybe I am nuts, but I always like my exhaust to go down and under on my utility tractors. Unfortunately some manufacturers try to compromise that by putting them on the side and out the front, I prefer them to out past the rear axle. Less exhaust to breathe in.

Great video had to do same thing to our Massey my only suggestion would be put some type of brace close to muffler to help support it I know it’s not that heavy but that kind of leverage and the shaking a tractor that size does it will do something similar but like I said that’s just a suggestion awesome videos

Definitely. Josh should get an old shop manual for this M-F and check how the original exhaust system was run and braced. It's too much weight on that flange and the next failure could break or crack the exhaust manifold. Might start getting expensive.
@johnsadler86373 жыл бұрын
@@mikegrant8490 I think those old MF65s had their tailpipe run down and under the rear axle. Judging from the variety of placements one can find for vertical pipes, those are modifications. I’m a little curious why this one has such a long horizontal pipe - adds a lot of torque. And gets a hot muffler closer to the operators face.
@eugenewillsey21353 жыл бұрын
Hey Josh, Like the video. may I suggest some sort of support for the muffler end of the exhaust pipe. Something simple angle iron from the bracket next to the pipe. That's gonna be a lot of weight bouncing if you don't. The manifold will thank you . A little more TLC for Earl. Woooo

@rtundlt13 жыл бұрын
That Massey should have a hydraulic filter inside the transmission. It will be a small canister filter and you'll have to drain the fluid to find it. It is a real booger to change as the bolt is long, small diameter and on mine is is a real bear to get it started in the bottom of the transmission housing without cross threading it. Earl is a great looking tractor, and if I had my druthers, I'd take a good solid old Massey (Perkins diesels are the king) over just about any new compact tractor out there today. I have a 1953 John Deere 40 (19 hp), a 1955 Allis Chalmers B with a Woods belly mower that I use every week for mowing around my place (16-18 hp), a 1962 Massey Ferguson Super 90 (5.0 L Perkins diesel @ 72 hp) and a 1974 Ford 4000SU (55 hp). I use all these tractors regularly and each has its own strengths and weaknesses but I wouldn't trade any of them in on a new tractor.
@mikegrant84903 жыл бұрын
You can go four years on the oil, but you might want to change the filter ANNUALLY. Follow M-F's recommendations for the hours run. Condensation in the hydraulic fluid?... since this is not your primary tractor, you ain't running it enough! ☘ like someone else mentioned, check your boot seals and anywhere it can allow moisture to enter, make sure it's working at operating temperature and when you think about it, a small amount of moisture causing a milky suspension/ condensate might disappear from it entirely just by running it in hot dry weather, 20 hours or so, causing no real harm to the internal hydraulic components ( unless you have a serious amount of water, then of course change it out right away). Avoid stream fording, pond crossing and submerged aquaculture whenever possible... 🚜⚓ Are y'all getting the effects of the drought down there? Getting really dry in Eastern Virginia.
