Hello again today i just broke down lost all power to the rev and speedo and shortly after that the engine stopped and the battery was flat so will be trying to find out which is the problem ,stator or regulator thanks again this is very valuable information so i can get my 2004 tiger 955i back on the road where she belongs.

Great video, now I understand what happened to me. I was riding on the Bay Bridge heading eastward at about 60mph out of San Francisco in five lanes of Friday afternoon "run-for-the-hills" freeway traffic, when the engine on my Daytona 955i just died on me. No electrical power at all. Nada. Very much a brown-trousers moment. I immediately pulled the clutch in and coasted to the side of the freeway on the slight down gradient, but there is no shoulder on the Bay Bridge... just five lanes, and then a 4ft wall and a 300 foot drop to the bay below. I eventually made it to the Oakland side and then pushed the bike to a median and waited for CalTrans for help. Turns out it was a stator / rectifier problem but then the same thing happened again after both had been replaced (fortunately this time not on a Bridge!) I had both pieces replaced again and still no charge was holding in the battery. The mechanics could not figure it out and eventually Triumph replaced the entire electrical cradle at no cost, even though the bike had completed 62,000 trouble-free miles and was well past the warranty and fortunately that did the trick. I am back to riding her again.

Harness connection melted most likely same thing happened to me 5 lanes going 80+ 2001 tiger 🐅. Triumph is great for helping their customers I bought a brand new 2002 Sprint and 3 months later had a rock go through the radiator minutes later traffic slowed down to about 5 mile per hour and lost my coolant. It over heated and warped the head before I could get off the interstate. Had it towed to the dealership they told me the head was warped and it's going to be 3 Grand to fix. I said fix it with a long face. So they called Triumph to order the parts and the guy at Hinkley asked why and said to the dealership were sending you a new head and gaskets for free and paid the labour to the dealership and said thank you for buying a Triumph. That bike never gave me another problem for 30 thousand miles when I sold it to get the used 2001 tiger. Gotta love Triumph!!!!

Speedo and rev counter dropped to zero, then a few miles later my 2003 Tiger cut out... Thanks for this great video, will be doing this at the weekend. Hoping it's the reg/rec, but I'm now educated to check stator and all wiring too. Cheers!

I've just examined my 2002 955i sprint stator and found exactly the same fault! good vid!

Hey Tom. I've got a daytona 955i 2002 with the exact same problem. You've given me the info i needed to test myself. Tested and I've got 22v 6.8v and 2.1v on three points... Not good. Thank you for this video.

I had a 2001 black beauty with changing issues and it over heated the wiring harness witch melted the harness connector's. Switch those with new ones and sodder. Replace the stator and rectafire. But it's a good idea to replace the battery at least every 2 years because if it's not holding a strong enough charge they're going to give you a problem even if it turns over fast enough to start. IMHO keep a battery new. Those are the best bike's I've got a 2006 now without any stator issues . It gets more attention than a 35000$ road glide. Goes like stink handling is great break's good does the job on dirt roads very well comfortable all day 6 gallon+ tank, and the best part is they can be had for under 4K with very low miles. In my opinion one of the best bike's for the money out there. But you need to be at least 5 foot 10 as they are quite tall. Get one if you can!!!

Very nice and helpful vid. Unfortunately I'm going to operate my Tiger 955 these days. An OT question: where did you find that little bar below the screen, the one where you put the voltmeter(?) and same thing for the bar on the handlebar. Cheers

I noticed there was oil running out while the cover was being removed, is there a need to refill again on the rebuild with new parts. if so where and what kind of oil?

maybe the magnets are weak. over time this happens. I suggest you check if the magnets are weak. If this has occurred, the voltage induced in the stator coils falls below the required value. Due to the power consumed, the current will be higher than it should, to compensate for the drop in induced voltage. Then one of the stator coils can't handle it and burns out. This is what happened with my Tiger 955i.
