It is not BRANDENTON! I have lived here in Bradenton for 40 years, never seen damage like this so close to home. Breaks my heart...Feeling pretty lucky right now.

I’m sure I don’t understand the whole picture. However, I’m not far from this place in Bradenton. We were warned for a couple weeks that this hurricane was coming, then as it got closer we were warned for a number of days about extreme tidal surge that could be expected, and how very bad it was going to be. It was emphasized over and over and over thousands of times on many news channels. So why would people leave their cars behind on the island? All valuables should or could have been removed from the lower level of garage or the home. So what did I miss?

That is a good question. I think some people were thinking it will not be as bad as hurricane Ian was. Still it is better to be safe than sorry. Yes, you can rebuild and buy belongings. Though think about it and try to find another way to protect your valuables, have a plan in mind.

The houses are not on the beach. They are set back. If there’s a big storm and all the sand is washed away, as happened to my in-laws, who had a condo on the beach, set back in the Orlando area, when all the sand was washed away they had to pay $1 million to bring Sand in. Some houses, of course are closer to the water than others and often that’s because of erosion. I don’t think people should be able to build anywhere near the water, but who gets Permits to build is all about corporate greed not what’s right for the consumer. In other words, the waterfront land should never be private anyway.

Moved to Florida four years ago from Jersey lived in Jersey my whole life came here started witnessing these storms and the endless damage comes with them is crazy and to be honest snow doesn’t sound to bad right about now lol
