Like most people, the 90s version of It was the first I saw. After seeing the 2017 version in the cinema, I read the book. Whenever Pennywise appeared in the book, the Tim Curry version was stuck in my head. Probably because this is the first version I ever saw of this clown. But also because the description of Pennywise in the book more closely matches the 90s version of Pennywise than the 2017 version. And I have to say that the book version is the best version of both the story and Pennywise.

It's because now there's no way we'd let our 7/8 year olds go out and play in the rain all on their own, ironically because children who did back then would go missing...not all of them but enough of them to make the ones that didn't go missing that have kids say "NOPE"

IT used Henry because he could attack the Loser Club while IT couldn't, they weren't afraid of IT which caused IT'S powers to not work on them properly. As well IT'S final words of fear is because for the first time in IT'S life it felt fear.

Yeah, I think Pennywise did feel threatened by the Losers Club and that's why he employed Henry. I love this movie. I liked the second bit that one was flawed. This is near perfect! I also think he says fear at the end because he's feeling it for the first time.

This was such a great adaption of the 'children's' part of the story but despite a cast of people I love (although Amy Adams should have played Beverly for obvious reasons), I think the adult stuff in part 2 fell super flat and the movie felt maybe a bit too safe. But the first movie just had a fantastic sense of small town/suburban dread that King was shooting for.

@@ryanmclellan8740 yeah like I say I’ve nothing against Bill Skarsgård’s performance. I just find it a little too “horror movie” with all the CGI, jump scares etc, where as Curry’s Pennywise felt more like a real world child predator or something. Which to me is far creepier and terrifying. But it’s all subjective I guess. Different things scare people differently.

Pennywise employs Henry to kill the losers because, for the first time in It’s life, It was afraid. In the book, it even started to suspect the existence of another (besides Itself and Maturin the Turtle). This other was Gan, the all powerful god of the king-verse. It employed He ry because of fear and doubt. Henry could kill them if they were or weren’t afraid.

I agree Basket Case. While part 1 was okay, part 2 was not as good as the original television movie. Tim Curry is my favorite Pennywise. I did not like that they switched Mike’s role as historian and gave it to Ben. I don’t know why they did that but had Mike still be the only one to remain in Derry? It made no sense to me. I think I prefer the television movie. 🙂

Yeah the first part was fine. People were making it out to be amazing, but I was pretty underwhelmed because it was ok…. Fine. The second part I watched and have no interest in ever watching again. The film was forgettable and I hated some of the casting of them as adults. For me, the last 20 minutes of the original version weren’t great, but the entirety of It Chapter 2 I’ve zero interest in.

IT doesn't just consume flesh and fear but negative emotions, so it can get fed from Henry's hatred as well and the fear of the kids if he killed them, especially in close proximity I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned, but the scene when IT uses gorgie like a puppet, after pennywise crashes into the stairs, you see it's body go limp, eyes roll back, and slides off the stairs just like "IT" is a puppet as well

Part 2 is so bad. The pacing is awful, it’s like they took a 20 page script and stretched it out to two and a half hours. The guy they got to play adult Ben must be a male model, he couldn’t act at all. And a giant Paul Bunyan just isn’t scary.

As much as I love this movie, it also frustrates me because they came so close to nailing it 100% but the film has several flaws - the jump scares are annoying and pointless, there is too much CGI (some of it good, some of it not so good) and the film just isn’t scary enough overall (a major flaw for a horror movie). The lack of screen time for Mike and Stan is also irritating. I still think it’s a really good film though, the acting, cinematography and period detail are all spot on and it’s clear that a great deal of care and detail has gone into making it, I just love all the little Easter eggs sprinkled throughout. Also, the story and concept are right up my alley, which is why it’s still one of my favourite films from the 2010s despite my reservations, but I just think with a few small tweaks, this film could have ended up being a 10/10 instead of an 8.5/10.

I think it’s weird to think, especially since the movie is about an era in the past, that a kid wouldn’t go out to play on his own being that young. When I grew up, that was kind of the norm, and you hoped to bump into somebody Else from your school from the block that you were friends with, but for the most part until video games came out, we never wanted to be indoors. Rain or shine or snow or dark, most of us only went home, because of curfew and punishment for not being on time (I’m a Brit who grew up in Canada).

Probably the most frustrating things for me about this movie: they take away Bev's slingshot and turn it into Mike's sheep-killer, thus turning Bev from the sharpshooter to the damsel in distress (vomit), and they take away Mike's role of historian and give it to Ben. Basically they remove the best parts of the minority characters and minimize their roles. SO disappointing!

It's success is easy. IT's one of the biggest horror IP's in the world. Between the book and the miniseries you'd have to travel off planet to find someone who isn't at least aware of the story of the evil clown that lurks in the sewer. All they had to do was stick the opening scene and the money would roll in. And the movie turned out to be a fairly excellent Goonies meets terror from another dimension. The kids only format worked great for part 1, but left part 2 with little new to do. They really needed to do a total tear down on part 2 which mean unfortunately departing heavily from the book.

It was very awkward because I had to pretended to be scared by his shtick. Felt like five years. Yeezus. I bought a Tim Curry T-shirt at the same convention. This is indeed, one of the best horror films ever made! This movie also proves that a rated R movie can make the top spot! I HATE it when most filmmakers will lower the rating for their films because they want a "wider audience." And that's pitiful. I can't even imagine if IT was a rated PG-13 film. IT WOULDN'T WORK! If you're movie is meant to be R, LET IT BE! And director Andy Muschietti did just that! 6 years later, and this film still holds up! All the kid actors were great! Bill Skarsgard was incredible! The music scores, atmospheres and scares were AMAZING! JUST AMAZING! As a fan of the IT tv mini series, I will always love that series for it's goofiness and of course, Tim Curry's phenomenal performance as Pennywise! And I will ALWAYS love the IT Remake for sticking closely to the source material as it can. They're both great and worth watching! GREAT REVIEW AS ALWAYS, GUYS! One of my favorites! 😎👍

The second part of the 90's television-miniseries was also not that great, the adult actors couldn't bring the energy the children could. But the second part of the newer film is nevertheless better balanced and the finale is much better made, of course they had a much higher budget too. It was just too long in my opinion, with not-really-needed scenes.

Wasn't hard for this remake to be better than the original. Lets be honest, the original was pretty naff and not even in the same league as Salem's Lot (1979). At one point i would have been interested to see a modern remake of Salem's Lot as well, but like most movies now it would most likely be a woke rewrite, more interested in pushing ideologies rather than telling us a great story.
