I am looking forward to seeing it in the water it's going to be awesome. Question : Would you do it again ? Haha probably not right. Thanks for showing us the journey it's been a real rollercoaster of emotions.

Will never stop when you’ve got a boat as you know but you have chances of actually enjoying all your hard work anyway keep up the good work. Always enjoy your videos , Cliff from Logan City, Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺 I’m on the big island 🏝️

The rule of thumb I've always used is: ~the SMALLER diameter cutter, to a certain extent, the FASTER the bit turns. In other words: ~One doesn't want a 100" hole saw turning at THOUSANDS of RPM and you don't want your 5mm twist drill chugging along at HUNDREDS of RPM. ESPECIALLY if you have good cutting oil. Naturally you don't want a tiny wire size drill bit screaming too fast either but as a general rule it served me well.

you need a buffing party just like when you set the upper hull buff the whole boat in one day lol

If you end up drilling stainless steel again look into drill bits that the cutting angle is 135 degrees instead of 118 degrees. Used them when I was a machinist and they are so much better. They save both time and effort. Probably should have mentioned this a year ago.
@williamhamill8132 ай бұрын
I have been using rubber gasket material under all my stainless and neoprene washers and acorn nuts. Keep all trapped water way from the stainless.
@timdwyer42292 ай бұрын
Inconvenient to work on a boat that’s in the water, miles from the shop I would think. The shop…. where the tools are, and the air compressor, and the drill press, and the pails full of chemicals, and the drawers full of fasteners, and……😊

Cobalt drill bits for stainless steel is as easy as hss bits on aluminium 👍

So how do you clean the nonslip areas so it doesn't look so dirty?
@LifeOnTheHulls2 ай бұрын
There will be a mild acid wash that will remove the dirt then full polish to restore the seal.It cannot be wetsanded.

@heiko50812 ай бұрын
you should have out sourced the plate cutting to a company that does laser cutting for the time you took to cut those plates and drill them you could have saved your self a lot of time as that would have probably cost you less than $100 and the finish would have been a lot better
@Matthew-c9b2 ай бұрын
Hey Ross, what are the left over moulds out the back of the shop? I think I see an arch?
@LifeOnTheHulls2 ай бұрын
Matt, the arch is the 2 piece targa mould for our boat.I opted for the more modern look and a hoard less weight and much better vision without it with our new stainless uprights.Ross
@stephenroyal16192 ай бұрын
I know it is counter intuitive, but never pilot hole stainless. the pilot hole gets worked hardened, an it wears out the second drill.
@mikewohlstein11622 ай бұрын
Why would you polish backing plates? Are they visable ? If not it sems you could do something else.
@LifeOnTheHulls2 ай бұрын
Yep visible, also prevents scale on parts in harsh enviros.
@william65262 ай бұрын
Hopefully you won't have any of those crazy killer whales where you sail that have been attacking the rudders of sailboats off the European coast for the last year. They have disabled quite a few sailboats by destroying the boats rudders.
@vettepicking2 ай бұрын
A laser guy would charge $100 usd to cut all those ss plates....

We know you are in the detail stage, but it doesn't make great video. Perhaps you could have farmed out the stainless pieces, a polishing video as interesting as a sanding. We all want to see you finish the boat, but you need to question whether your really want to see boat cleaning/polishing at this stage.
