These videos remind me why my 100e has taken so long, always an issue with something and it slowly eats away at you till you lose enthusiasm, that being sad the sunny winter mornings really give me a buzz to get it sorted….right up until i get to the car and see the state its in 😂 good work marcus👍🏻

nice to see back working on Heidi but i think you should seal/paint the areas you have sanded/de rusted with 2k epoxy primer as you go otherwise all your good work will be in vain, the rust converter does need to be sealed, also its a good idea to lightly abrade the converter with a scuff pad before painting .

Awesome Marcus 👍🏽 yeah I think your diff hosing is stuffed as if it's not locating properly it would twist under load so probably good to get stonger locating plates and reinforce them onto the diff , see if that helps? Or get a new cheap diff that's bigger? Like a Capri V6 diff but it may need a bit of adjusting?? Great you are starting with the other escort be good to see it when done 👍🏽

As mentioned in the video the oil pressure was fine but the oil was slightly low on the dipstick. But I topped up and re-checked and the problem remained. 👍

It's a weird one, used to use welded diffs in Escort stock cars for seasons with no issues, but worth just chucking an open diff back in for now to keep you on the road. Probably try a different English axle, with an LSD. If you use a welded diff on a different axle and they keep breaking half shafts still, it may be too much for arsing around on the road with wide tyres etc

Hi Marcus. To test the wiring on vvt sensor, you can create a circuit with a bulb. Just soldier to wires on a bulb and put those in the connector for the vvt sensor. Then put 12V into those wires for the vvt sensor end on the ECM side. If the bulb lights up, the wiring is ok. Just a tip🌞🇳🇴

Just a thought is it work taking the axle and casing out of the beige car and throw maude’s axle in the beige one to keep her rolling so you can work on her. Maybe the beige axle with the so called up rated shafts and a welded diff could work and keep the costs down? Just a thought mate.

Defo an option mate. I reckon with a temporary open diff 'Maude' will stop breaking shafts until I get round to getting another axle. Then I could maybe get it checked for straightness and re-enforced before fitting it. 👍

Another great video I know there are guides already but I wish you'd do a full me221 guide, it would be great in your easy to follow step by step approach in a format that fellow spanner heads could understand lol, I always feel people who do ECU bids always assume the watchers are as clever as they are, when really were there to try and learn something. Hey dude...dont forget that when you dump the clutch and your wheels spin with 160 horses......your axle will try doin the same but in opposit direction.....looks like ya axle is rocking backwards at launch trying a full send on the pinion flange towards the floorpan...jus a thought

Hi Marcus hope you get to the bottom of the vvt fault, with the vvt solenoid can you buy them new I know Ford don’t do them but does someone do aftermarket? Also do you need to connect to the knock sensor or is it ok to run without it cheers 👍👍

The spring perches being bent shouldn’t cause any axel shaft issue, but should still be fixed. Why a welded diff over an LSD? Do they make a locker that you could use? I love vvt solenoid issues. I had one on my 5.4. 3 shops couldn’t find it. I did eventually.

Hi Marcus, fit the complete axle from Heidi to Maude, contact Burton performance and Retro Ford for advice to get most cost effective axle solution using an L.S.D, Welded diffs as advised before just put stresses further up the drive train !!!! Cheers Marcus

If funds allowed I would go straight to Retro Ford for their diff and shafts mate. Its a awesome kit and I have that setup in 'Esther' 👍

the problem with the welded diff is it more stress on the half shafts and if it a old shaft it need to go back in the side it come out of as it will try twisting the splines on the shaft the other way and snap in no times i only snapped a shaft drifting with a welded diff after 5 year but that was my fault with clutch kicking it and every transition on a manji. but if you use after second hand half shaft if it came out the passenger side of the old car it needs to go on the passenger side of you one as it will be reloaded /twisted that way. i hope this helps you

Looks like the axle casing is twisted mate. Nose cone of diff is pointed down & bump stops facing back🤷🏻‍♂️

Just a suggestion. You could potentially salvage and reuse Mauds parts and repurpose them for Heidi and just focus on the one project.

Don't buy a bike with fixed back wheel, no shafts to break but plays havoc with your heels.

I reckon your axle casing is bent, the tubes bend backwards from the diff housing, Get the axle off the car and put a straight edge along the back of the casing and it will become obvious! This is why Ford switched to the Atlas axle for all their rally cars back in the day, the English case was just not strong enough even with a rear brace plate etc.

With baby atlas you don’t need too no do no conversion...I am running a baby atlas and I launch my escort very crazy...I run the duratec 2300..and I have no worries....

I'd find another good English casing, with straight spring seats, have some bracing bars welded on as old rally style strengthening, and get your lsd repaired mate! Ya not having these issues with Esther 🤔

Don't worry about delimited that's just how the information is spaced out on say Excel etc. Remember metal quality was better when you're Escort was manufactured and they were made properly. Today metal quality is nowhere near what it used to be no matter what it says on the label. Did you bell the wires on the VVT plug ?

With esther do a conternuity check on the wires from the ecu to the vvt might be the diode and refit the other vvt

She did snap her first 2 shafts (one standard and one uprated) with the LSD fitted tho. 👍

Change the rear axle off the other more door and no weld diff. It not about the engine bhp. It's the torque you are putting through the passenger drive shift. When go around round abouts and donuts.

Would be easier if Maude and Ester had a similar diff set up? Ask Retro Ford for some help by discount or maybe sponsor, use your channel to advertise them for this. If they will do you a discount then let us know.

Borrow Heidi's axle and test your theory. Also, how's the oil pressure on ester? Cos it's driven off oil pressure

If the bottom of axle housing is dented it could have caused the wheel bearing housing to pull in a sightly at bottom making the wheel bearing to be out of line with diff bearing, half shaft will be under a bending tension, will probably let go at weakest or narrowest point which is most likely where the splines are not supported by diff planet gears. I can't imagaine that your that unlucky in having that many faulty half shafts. The dent might be getting slowly worse from being under tension from spring brackets, pulling bottom of bearing housing further out of alignment causing half shafts to bend and flex even more over time.

Can u not ‘borrow’ the axle from Heidi and put it in Maude? I have a feeling the axle is running out of true on the passenger side and stressing the half shafts. Good luck 👍🏻

Don’t get side tracked with the beige one. Concentrate on one thing at a time. Get Maude sorted axle and body wise, then stop thrashing the life out of it.

Power isn't really your issue, shock loading is what breaks stuff in many cases (axle tramp, real brutal clutch dumps etc) although you have the full combination including major fatiguecontribors. A welded diff means that every time you turn you repeatedly wind/unwind the shafts which gives a lot more fatigue cycling. Tyre grip / driveline inertia etc all plays into it too. Secondhand shafts are a complete unknown...biggest factor on that is how they have been pre stressed. If you put a shaft that has lived on the LH side into the right or vice versus it will unwind the "set" that it has already taken & fail much more quickly due to fatigue. Shafts should never be swapped in that way. It's amazing that the non floating driveshsts live at all when you consider the load case....the combination of rotary bending & torsional loading is pretty horific then throw in a welded diff, grippy tyres & a less than mechanically sympathetic driver stuff is going to break.

MH doesn’t stand as your initials it stands for Mullered Half shafts. You have these cars in bits more times than any other vehicle I know. Fix or repair daily taken literally. You definitely need to get a proper rear end in Maude for you to stop popping half shafts.

What axle and diff is in Heidi? Could you not just swap it over to maude and use it for just now as a stop gap so you have a car that runs so you can give rodger back to cat. Buy your self some time to work out the problem.

I'm sorry that you are having as much problems you are having with the cars as you are, but that is partly your own fault, You sèm to half arse the work and knowing that you then abuse the utter sh1t out of them, no wonder they break. You should do a job right first time and ise a bit of common sense . You have the skill just stop bodging things, As to rhe other MK2 shell Do Not sell!! Build it bit by bit, build it as a restomod, standard looking like it was just out of the showroom, but with a well built engine and running gear NO Bodges no dodgy wiring and you will have decent content for your channel
