I usually do the same thing, clean, eat, etc. When I get bored of that I watch yt vids and order stuff on amazon so it's at my house when I get home on the weekend. What I dont understand is I don't see alot of drivers walking. I do that as much as I can, you don't get alot of exercise on this job, I never see guys walking. I just put my vest on and go explore. I even park in the back of the truck stop to force myself to have to walk further to buy the garbage food they feed us.

I'm a trucker and did OTR for a while, the worst part about waiting is how every shipper or receiver that doesn't take care of you quickly act like they are doing you a favor when they load or unload you. (mostly receivers, always if they have lumpers) the only time an hour or more on dock should ever be considered acceptable is if the load is loose boxes. oh and they never tell you how long you will wait, so you are stuck wondering "will it be 15min from now or should i just try for some sleep"

There was a time I was riding in the truck with my father, and we went to kansas city kansas to pick up a load. We ended up waiting for around 4-5 hours fore them to even be ready to load us and than it took them another 2-4 hours to load. and this was during the middle of the day during the summer with no AC in the truck. it was terrible

I have been struggling lately with receivers man, this week they took 7 hours to unload me, burned up half my clock. I've been having to call my company and having to tell them I can't make it to the next guy because they burned up all my time. Then they have to rearrange appointment times, cancel some loads they had planned later in the week. Drives me up the wall.

lol. You aren’t doing splits. Wouldn’t have burned up your clock if you were. Either you’re a new driver or you’re working for a bad company. I don’t ever recommend splits, unless you know in advance that you have to. Those 7 hours could have been spent off duty, and you would have got time back.

I usually just play games. as a owner operator I can do deliveries whenever I want to and take breaks whenever I feel like due to how my business is set up. got multiple employees being paid around 320$ a hour, while the rest of the delivery profits go to me. I use those profits both for business funds and as personal money. most the times I load up in my rig and haul freight I just do it for the fun of it, simply because I enjoy the open road.

"ONLY" 5 hours waiting time at the ramp....? ridiculous....! I had waiting times that lasted over 2 1/2 days, but it was an airport in winter... that's an extreme example, but waiting times that are as long as your shift have happened before arrived before 8:00, got to the ramp at 9:00 after the paperwork.... returned home empty-handed at 5:00 in the afternoon because nothing was happening in the dispatch, and my colleague picked up the goods the next day

I would say make a list of things you can do while waiting to be unloaded, assuming you haven't already. That way you aren't spending any time wondering "what to do now?", you simply do it. And when you get there scroll the list. Do the high priority things like chores and checks, then lower priority things like fun, exercise(audiobook?), and even editing for the channel

In sweden this problem simply dont exist. Typically the truckdriver will load most loads (apart of bulk( them self. If the load is not ready, company that ordered it pays hourly full cost.

GP Transco is 99% live load/unload, only had like 2 drop and hooks in the two months that I was with them. The loads they will have you pickup will piss you off, not for the amount of wait time but the actual freight they load on the trailer. Many places will make you have to go back and get the trailer reloaded to be legal weight. That's spot market freight for you though.

Really, that is a long waiting time where I work. we could empty a trailer between 30 minutes to 1 hour, but it would actually depend on the cargo and how it have been loaded in, sometimes when they don't do a decent job we gonna do some of it with hands because it have moved under transport or bad packaging

And now flying a drone is illegal unless you fly at a remote control air field or you went and got a commercial drone pilot license and now have all drones you own with their own FAA transponder you have to pay for. Be careful not to get caught. Also, some carriers will freak out with you flying around.
