Douchiest thing I've seen is a guy asked me to spot him on bench and said "I'm going for 3 reps" and he failed on the first rep and I ended up curling most the the weight back up and he continued for the other two reps. I literally curled 200lbs for 3 and he couldn't hear me say to stop through his giant beats headphones. And afterwards he starting giving me advice and talking about himself like he was the greatest thing.

Nick Wright When I was a beginner, a guy told me to try and bench 160lbs (even though at that time I had never done that) - he basically forced me to lay on the bench and try it (I told him like 5 times that there is no way I can do that). When I couldn't he said with a head full of ego "Wow, not even one huh?"

The worst is when you actually know these people one way or another and then try to get them to do proper squats. Oh they'll act like you're jealous because they're quarter squatting a bit more than you're full rep squatting.

Dunno if my actions are douchey or just stupid, but there is defo a lot of doucheyness in my story. Went to use the poweracks and some guy had left the bar loaded with 4 plates each side on a squat he failed and just left it. So I started taking the plates off one side at a time (never making that mistake again), and the bar flipped over. It then continued to flip over, towards the guy on the smith machine next to me who was doing half rep benching on it, and hit him straight in the balls. Never been as embarrassed in my life. Just made sure the guy was okay and loaded up the bar to start squatting.

We gave some guy in the gym that we the gym goers have nicknamed the ninja. He is in his mid 40s indians decent and jack black like body. before he goes to lift he screams and practices fighting moves, not any real martial arts something he mad up maybe or a reanimation of a power ranger episode. He will run to the wall jump on it and then come down with a flying knee kick. When he is about to bench press, correction machine bench press he will act like he is going super saiyain. Another guy we have is this powerlifter and before a big lift will act like he is going super saiyian 3 and will scream for 2 min then squat. He is pretty strong tho he can do a 5 hunddo squat. Just another day in my gym in Kew Gardens, Queens and this is a true story lol im not trolling

Dan had me do lots of reps in the 420-480 range in increments every week. Another thing to help you is doing block pulls with lets says 510 for sets of 5 reps.

Within the first 19 seconds I already thought of a story. 2 days ago at the gym my friend and I needed a squat rack and we were pressed on time so we needed to lift quickly. We get there and this guy was taking up a rack while helping some chick. So we figured it'd be polite to ask just how many more sets he had. The guy says "oh we gotta go to another machine. we'll be back in 5." so they leave and take up 2 racks in the process, they then proceed to use literally every machine in the gym and eventually we were like "fuck it" and took the rack. He came back 30 minutes later and just gave us a disgusted look.

I had gotten a friend of mine into lifting and he started going to the gym with me regularly. He wasn't in great shape but in a couple months he did start seeing some pretty decent changes in his body. He was pretty shy to begin with, but he started getting to where he would sneak a little flex in the mirror from time to time. One day two bigger guys just so happened to catch him doing it and they started ragging him hard about it. Dont get me wrong, a little aggrivation is okay, you get that from time to time, but these tools kept on about how he needed to just quit lifting and how he didnt even have anything to flex anyways. He left that day and never went back to the gym with me again. It pissed me off so bad because he had made progress and because of those two buttheads he gave up. I know he shouldnt have given up over two people but unfortunately he did. I wish he'd overlooked them and kept it up.

One day many months ago in my university gym, there was a group of 3 guys squatting opposite me, they were doing quarter squats with 125kg (while I was doing the same weight but reaching proper depth). Next to me where I was doing my set, there was a bench where I put my Converses/liquid chalk etc... after each set, one of the guys came over, pushed my stuff off the bench, and then proceeded to brag about the weight he was lifting, saying: "Yeah bruv my legs may be small but they strong as fuck!" After their terrible squats, they then started doing dumbbell shrugs, and taking up something like 10 pairs of dumbbells. Another day, again in my university gym. I was doing incline dumbbell bench, and there was a guy behind me doing some curls. When I rest between, I tend to make it apparent that I'm still using said bench. So I'm standing right next to my bench, and the guy doing curls come up to my bench and moves it out the way to do his curls, without even asking me first.

I once witnessed an older guy give advice to a boy of around 18 years old. The boy politely declined (his form wasnt too bad) and asked him to mind his own business and suddenly, when he went sit down on his bench, the old man went crazy and kicked him, using all of his weight, right on the shoulder. Luckily the old man got suspended from the gym afterwards :)

Nick, would you agree that thinking isn't bad, rather, negative thinking is? For a lot of people, thinking about positive thoughts and cues can be the difference between making a weight and missing it. I think learning to control your thoughts, not disregarding them, would be a better approach and would lead to a skill than can be applied, universally, to bring out the best in you. This may seem semantic, but i think it's important that we don't give the impression that thinking, good or bad, is suboptimal.

One guy was correcting guys in the gym not sweating enought, while his personal weight was about 170kg with like 30-35% BF, so fat. Really a douche, I asked him when he was done using some weights, he said that i needed 8 sets more. The annoying part was that he did 50-60 reps each arm, I waited for like 13-15mins, then he put the weights up (he just did his final set), then I took the weights, then the fucking assholes said "I'm not done, I was just resting"... then he took one more set with 3 reps for one arm then throw the weights on the ground. Really nice, when I was new in the gym and also new to bodybuilding (my first 20-30 days training).

I was sitting and doing dumbbell shoulder press. only been going to the gym for about a year. not a small man but not super muscular. I was working on form and making sure to hit the 90 degree on my reps. 'roid man decides to grab the dumbbells in front of me and do his sets blocking my view. when I asked him if he wouldn't mind moving, he turns and says, "WTF you don't need the mirror your not even lifting that much. you don't need the mirror." he did this very loud and aggressively that I moved right away to avoid him. but he pursued me and wouldn't give up. when I headed to the gym desk to talk to my buddy working there, he suddenly disappeared. I have seen him since this incident and he has never approached me. thankfully. funny thing is he is still the same size and after 2 years I am much bigger and lifting a lot more weight with damn good form.

this guy "big mike" while i was still at the YMCA, this guy was on more stuff than boston i'm sure, he would freak on everyone and he left his smith machine for about 15 minutes one day with all his weights on so these two girls go over there to take it over and he came back and told them to get the fuck off of his machine and put his weights back on and pretty much cried to EVERYONE about how he thought it was bullshit, literally everyone in the gym is looking at this dude, and my friend another time went over to the squat rack he was on and picked up a weight (Not in use) and he was like "These are my fucking weights, get the fuck out of here" and threw a little 10 i believe it was, needless to say he couldnt go there anymore after the staff saw that! but yeah..

A guy was using a squat rack, bench press and hoarding a bunch of freeweights all at the same time he freaked out when I tried to squat he said he was using it but at the time was benching. When he did squats he put 3 plates on each side and didn't even squat right he went down like 2-3 inches then back up.

Douchiest was when a guy was lying on the floor next to the squat rack (outside the rack itself) but with his feet on one of the safety bar.. I walked up to do squat an I figured he would just move his feet but he didnt. I got to do one warm up set of squats (not full range because of his f***** feet), before I had asked him to please remove his damn feet!

Gym douche-baggery at its finest this morning at my gym. When I began my workout there was this guy sitting at one of the 3 benches on his phone having a casual conversation. I finish my workout about 75 minutes later and he is still on the phone sitting on the bench. Someone even asked him if he was using the bench and he just stuck his hand up as if it was rude to interrupt his conversation.

Recently happened to me… Home for the summer from college, decide to try out brand new commercial gym. They do mma/crossfit shit but have a nice weight area and allow you to deadlift and shit. Very first workout that I have there after having a really positive tour of the gym and practically signing up then I start doing squats. About 5 out of 8 reps in I feel something hit me kinda of from behind and it really startles me because there aren't any mirrors and I have headphones in.. rack the bar and turn around…. fucking personal trainer with a shit eating grin saying I have to leave this area for a class when there are no signs instructing me to do so. I immediately am cheesed and ask why he couldn't have waited and he just kinda laughs and says he needs this area now. I just pick my shit up and leave. smh

Today I was on the plate-loaded leg press and I finished one of my sets, stand up, and he comes over and takes a plate off of the leg press. As I'm standing right beside it. In no way did I look like I was finished with it. I was like really dude?
