I would recommend watching Living Traditions Homestead for their adding heavy duty straps to their greenhouses to protect the plastic being whipped around from wind and storm damage . It is something to consider to protect your investment in your awesome greenhouse.

Using the tractor when you can for any digging projects is the cats meow!!! It totally saves in physical energy (on your body) when dealing with moist clay, or dirt. Snatch up any deal when it comes to over purchased food in a grocery store. Especially when dealing with organic. That truly was an excellent deal on organic bananas.

Welcome to my "soil world". Good old red clay. Tilling is like being beat to death with the pounding of the tiller. After 5 years, I am finally making headway with it becoming a looser soil. Lots of compost, peat moss, composted cow manure and now that the garden is done, let the chickens out and they are doing a wonderful job. My garden is very small - maybe 14 x 30 - if that. But for 2 of us, I get enough to be able to can or freeze and share what I can't use. Love it. Good luck to you - and with your green house. I agree with looking into getting tie-downs to secure it.

Oh yeah that diesel shovel works much better! Nice to drag your blade box grader down it too! That tractor is a very good labor saver! It looks more level already! Thanks for the explanation of why you have to wait to start no-till garden boxes and areas. Yes, our rock hard clay soil isn't even worth planting into. We do raised boxes pretty much exclusively. Our clay soil just gets wet and then cracks when it dries. It looks nice in the tunnel after you rototilled. Wow Meg, alfredo sauce with pasta and garlic seasoned chicken, yum! I feel your excitement to get the greenhouse up and growing. This is exciting guys. Thanks for this Hollar family.

In the United Kingdom we tend to vary the PVC cover in the ground so when it rains it will go on next side and it won’t come into the ground cause the plastic. It needs for about a foot I’m not usually stops it also in pieces of wood on the inside where the polls are protected when you’re inside you don’t pierce the plastic at the bottom

Did you all apply for an NRCS grant for that hoop house? It’s a great program and will pay for individuals or farms to install these. It's purpose is to help people prevent the erosion that you talked about so nicely in this video. Also, don't feel too pressured to do your garlic planting. Garlic can be planted as long as the soil is workable and not frozen, which I imagine isn't a big problem in your area.

Great music once again. It would be nice if you could bring your chickens into the greenhouse for a few weeks before planting. They would really enjoy and know back spring and summer pest pressure! Newly disturbed soil would be really exciting for the hens! My hens love to take me out to the woods to turn over logs for them. It's become a thing after I feed and water them. They come up to me to say it's time to go forage. Go bananas with that greenhouse. 😁

wood around the base of the high tunnel will also help keep the dirt in and reduce erosion from the side. watch out for erosion around the poles, you dont want to lose stability if water washes dirt around the poles away. you'll know where u have issues when u get a good rain. hopefully you get one before you plant. its easier to make changes when its not yet planted.

I seen a comment suggesting living tradition homestead for their green house. Another is Simple living Alaska, the have a green house and it’s like framed inside- doors and a huge fan in the back - uses rows not raised beds. 🤷♀️ Few ideas to toss around and take what you can use for yours. Your roof is better than both. You won’t have as much snow build up to scrape off 😄

Those white grubs… we call those cut worms. If you find in your garden a plant laying off on the row, dig down to pull the root and you’ll find one of those worms. They go for my peppers- I wrap foil around the base and they don’t bother the plant any more.
@ratsbuggy58182 жыл бұрын
With all those grubs you could sure use chickens to "protect" your greenhouse. We've strung electric netting around our raised beds to make a little chicken moat. Our beds are 32" tall and will be protected above that with cattle panels so the chickens and most other beasts won't get into the garden. They would also control a lot of grass and weeds around the greenhouse
@robertfountain48562 жыл бұрын
Where your ground water drains into the creek use your waste hay bales to filter out the soil from it. Reclaim the soil and some hay into your compost. Put round poles along the sides of the greenhouse. Attach the bottom of the sides of the greenhouse to them and use pulleys with rope around the poles to roll them up to let air in when needed.
