This is the perfect trail show in anything other than the most technical ground - a version with greater lug depth would sort out the soft ground issues. You will be fast in this shoe. Also - it’s so well made that it’ll last.

I have 513 miles in the ASUs. I also have 116 miles in the Tecton X3s. The ASUs don't do well in loose surfaces or ankle-breaking terrain, but otherwise beat out all other trail shoes I've run in. I race in Pro 3s on the road, so Adidas is becoming my brand of choice. Alas, the Tectons are only used now for gravel paths, where they excel. They are worse than the ASUs in the ankle-breaking trails to the point of being dangerous. And they are relatively plodding to run in.

Hey this was 1 month ago now, how you getting on with this Terrex shoes? I'm debating buying them for the final 30/40 miles of Western Statues. Just worried based on what you said about ankle breaking. WSER trails towards the end are meant to be buttery smooth.
@eric-running-to-chamonixАй бұрын
@@inkandtrails I haven't run WSER, but I have run at Canyons and these shoes would be perfect for that. And by "ankle breaking" I really meant east coast roots and washed out trails. But even there, I think if it isn't muddy, I'd still wear the ASUs and maybe tape the ankles. I've raced Desert Rats, SpeedGoat, and Kodiak this year in these and SpeedGoat is the only race where these weren't the best choice (fields of head-sized rocks and construction zone-like roads). They were perfect for Kodiak and Desert Rats. They do require a break-in though. 20 miles should do it, but the foam holds up really well so longer is not a problem. I'm up around 600 miles now and the durability is also good.

@eric-running-to-chamonix Amazing thank you for the quick response. Canyons runs on a lot of the same route right? That's good to know in reference with the other races too. Looking like I'll buy or try these ones 😁 cheers mate

I still adore the old Terrex 215's. They only had 2mm lugs, a low stack, no plate, and they remind me so much of an Adios 3 from almost a decade back. By far my favorite trail shoe.

I was having my first run in them as this video dropped. It was a very pleasant 1:38 half marathon on a paved bike trail/pedestrian path. They make good road shoes. I am looking forward to a long trail run this weekend to see how they do with a more technical surface and steeper climbs/descents. I have the Tecton X3 and did a 100k in them. I have too much room in the forefoot of those shoes and my feet are sore and exhausted after 20 miles. Maybe this would be less of a problem if I sized down half a size? Anyway, the ASU is currently my leading contender for Hellgate 100k in December. We’ll see how it shakes out after more trail time.

Lateral stability is for sure the biggest let down of the shoe. A bit of Roche spec ankle taping does wonders for securing the ride and making this my pick for a trail-race day shoe though!

I've put 150 miles on these shoes. Totally agree with Ethan. I think they're almost perfect for race day, just not for technical or muddy courses.

I have a wider foot (not 2E wide though) and, while narrow in the midfoot, I still had to go down a half size from my TTS for the ASU for a better fit. I raced a mountainous, trail 50k in them back in May and they were great. I haven't had any durability issues either.

I’ve twisted my ankle twice in these due to the lack of lateral stability pointed out in the video. Sucks because, other than the ankle twists, they are the best trail shoes I’ve tried. They’re fast, light, airy, bouncy. With all the great things about this shoes, it’s a huge design flaw to have that “slice” in the side of the midsole so you can see the plate. Sending these back. 😢😢

I loved how fast these shoes were, but I was one of the unfortunate few that had that blistering/irritation from the inner arch upper material.
@brianogrady98832 ай бұрын
Me too, so I cut out the material.They are still very tippy and unstable though. Proper ankle breakers on technical terrain

Hi! 😁 Are these shoes suitable for running on mixed terrain? a little asphalt a little trail?
@eric-running-to-chamonix2 ай бұрын
I've run hundreds of miles in these shoes so I'll weigh in on this. They do really well on asphalt as well as trail since the lug depth is pretty minimal, but be aware that the lugs wear down so you might want to limit road running if you are training in them. They are terrible on gravel and you have to be careful of your ankles on terrain with holes and tree roots because the loose-ish heel counter cause a bit of ankle instability. I love these shoes so much though that I rarely wear anything else on trails as long as it's not muddy.

Yeah I think they’d do fine - lugs aren’t super deep so they shouldn’t disrupt mixed terrain comfort!

Thinking of wearing them for this weekend’s road marathon as prep/testing for the towpath & road sections at JFK50 next weekend (will not wear them on the AT section as they’re a bit tippy on rocks). No worries about wearing down lugs too much…these are a race day only shoe for me, so not high mileage.

@reigaterobot4965Ай бұрын
Unfortunately for me I just couldn't get on with this shoe, the upper doesn't lend itself to decent lockdown and found myself adjusting the laces a lot to compensate and despite this the heel remained loose. The other and main reason is that for me they offered little to no energy return and I actually found the ride to be slightly too firm unless I was running on something firm or uphill where they work the best. Definitely not a soft ground shoe.

Some extra data for those with bigger feet, especially when we talked about security and stability. I am UK12.5 size 48 and a size 29.5cm / 10.5cm foot. Adidas shoes in general unusable for me. Adidas trail shoes have been using a totally different shape for a long time, so with thin socks they are great. Especially the Speed Ultra 240 and also the Speed 190 and the Speed 225 SG. We can hear in many podcasts and reviews that the shoe is too narrow with not big enough foot print. Comparing to like 12 pairs of running shoes from like the Catamount 2, the Nike Kiger 7, Pulsar Pro 2, Thundercross, Vectiv Enduris and the Vectiv Infinite and others , there is no one shoe that comes close to the width of the forefoot of the Adidas ASU. It is blastingly wide in size EU48. Probably also due to this extra material in the bigger shoe, I totally don't have the collapse on the outside that Blueberry shows in the Video. At this moment I did not try running hard workouts on technical terrain or doing the real long runs in it. However on my non technical speed sessions and medium length tempo runs, till now I did not feel I have to tape my ankles. This is just to make everybody understand that a bigger size shoe from the same model, for a different kind of runner, might provide a whole another totally different experience, like we did not even talk about the same shoe. I don't at all have the same experience like Ethan.

These shoes definitely are not for the beginners, they are for well trained athletes. Issue with stability disappears if you have strong enough feet. It has great dynamic stability. But of course they are not for very technical terrain. I was surprised to hear they are narrow. At least for me they have enough space given that I always need wide shoes. Also they are extremely fun and cool at downhills. Tested them on several races in the mountains. For me they are the best race shoes I have ever had

I only run on smooth trails. Is this a good shoe to use for regular running on that surface. Mostly chill pace but some speed work
@antonsmith947412 күн бұрын
@ It is a good idea to use them for regular running because these shoes changes mechanics of your running and your muscles and joints should get used to them
@aristodiga822 ай бұрын
I really don't understand why they design the base so narrow on the heel, dan even narrower on the midfoot, before becoming wide on the forefoot 😢. I seriously thought about buying the agravic speed (not the ultra), because it has no plate, very very good midsole, and light. They feel nice on the store... where the surface is flat and smooth. I canceled it because I just don't trust them on stability aspect for the trails 😢

It is always interesting to hear English speaking people put emphasis on the i of the German brand Adidas and not on the first A as German speakers do: Aaadidas. I guess, that is, because the brand name is a short version of the German founder Adolf Dassler or often called Adi Dassler and the name Adi is emphasized on the A. As a compensation many Germans say Naik though instead of “Naiki” (Nike). 😅
@m.ch4rmaland3r102 ай бұрын
The agravic speed is more than enough for most runners. The Ultra version is unnecessary, in my opinion, especially in most trails.
