The conundrum is, the 100 mario challenge is better for doing youtube video's because it's a "set amount" and there's an end. MM2's endless allows more features, challenges, and interactions but 30 lives is not enough, and sometimes you just don't know when to stop.

Creators like Ryu seem to see 100-man only as beaten if you don't skip any of the levels, even though it's a fully intended and valid strategy to technically beating 100-man. Kinda the same thing with self-imposed challenges in MM2 endless, like Thabeast's 8 levels without skipping format.

I'd kind of like to see more SMM1 "costume endings," where you beat the final level with a costume. I saw you do it once and there was alternate dialogue. It's sort of random but maybe there's a way to try to farm it for content.

theres definetly times when you dont notice, but i feel like now anyways, you can generally tell just based on level design, since a large majority lack certain things that have became a staple in smm2 like the acorn suit or desert/snow/jungle levels and rising acid or vertical rooms yknow

I always judge as an observer the amount of times twirling causes Ryu to die. I'm sure not twirling causes just as many deaths but it is much less noticeable to me

i'm a noob at mario maker (or platform in general) but i know about the p switches jump, spikes differences on mm1 and 2, but it's easy to know if you actually play the game, seeing a level without new powerups or lives count it's not easy to distinguish

tbh I don't always realize immediately if it's Mario Maker 1 or 2. The number of lives are usually the quickes giveaway. Sometimes the level code, or some specific features like SMB2 mushroom. And the uhm "trash factor" I guess :D

The big difference between 1 and 2, is that with 2 practically every level has the on/off blocks, often used in similar ways. Also though mm2 has skips all the time.
