This is amazing. Still leaves a bit to be desired, but the fact that there's something almost ready for the mass market is incredible. I genuinely think VR could help solve the obesity epidemic. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, and I'm just a freak who not only like video games, but also wants to actually act out action games IRL, and works out 6 days a week anyway... But still, games make it so much easier to get lost in them and lose track of time... It can make exerting yourself feel a lot more rewarding. Even a game that isn't very physically demanding, like Skyrim VR, which is just a port...even if you don't squat to sneak like I do, and just press buttons, you're still probably standing the whole time, which is a lot healthier than sitting in a chair and staring at a screen.
@SkaterJay7893 жыл бұрын
I thought this same thing in terms of helping folks with weight issues. Just getting into VR and standing for long time periods is a game changer. This helps kill the narrative that gamers are just fat cause they sit all day and sometimes I think we’ve all wanted to act out in the game the tech just wasn’t there yet

@renookami46513 жыл бұрын
The problem crouching lower, is the risks of bumping into the machine if you actually fall. I guess that's the reason why this design is the way it is, to prioritize safety. After all, devices like this are pretty new, you don't want them to have a "knee bruiser" reputation right off the bat. Maybe they could make a "Veteran spport" allowing for that, just like the slippery "veteran mode" of shoes allow for more unsafe actions.

@@aidanprintz8700 Thats what I was thinking, but that sounds like a version 3, getting basic movement solid is a great first step. Plenty of things to improve, but at least the VR industry has something closer to a consumer price. Another thing to add, the opposite of crouching, is jumping. One issue I had in HF:A was when they required me to port for a jump. Jumping might be a long term goal, as that seems like a 'let me hold your beer' moment on these things.

Seems like it would be good at that point to transition back to thumbsticks would make getting on a horse or driving a car in vr similar to being in the real world it would give the user a rest break and allow them to travel farther distances. Customizable vehicles would then become something marketable like in ready player one. Plus vehicles like in other games could be held and unlocked once a person hits a certain level and they would have to walk or run up until they level up to that point.

Remember that even if you're running on a giant thumbstick, the controllers still have thumbsticks, so you can use those when riding the horse as both a well-needed rest and a step further into immersion.

And then imagine that they make a to scale world where a city that is supposed to be a regional trade hub like skyrim has more than 12 people living in it, actual medieval city sized, and a world that isn't 11 miles across but 100 miles across, you might end up with a game where part of the story is you have to take your ass and walk 50 miles from your city to the capitol to warn them of some impending attack and it actually takes a long ass time to walk that far. pair that with an AI like GPT3 but better and more coherent, and an AI voice actor and you could make a game where the majority of your time is spent just walking from place to place talking to your NPC companions. And that totally won't lead to anything unhealthy mentally speaking, not at all.

@@zeusdarkgod7727 Unfortunately physics kind of prevents that one because you *need* something to push off of (usually the ground) in order to actually move. We depend on the friction between surfaces (e.g. our feet/shoes and the ground); have you seen Ender's Game, per chance?
