The problem with ghost writers in rap is that rap music isnt made to exclusively sound good but to say shit. Drake is barely a rapper, he's a pop artist. he makes pop music, music that can be played in a party to have people dance to it while not really worrying about the lyrics. Kendrick on the other hand with albums like TPAB and GKMC is a rapper, he actually says shit in his songs. whether it be from "You Aint Gotta Lie" which talks about faking hood for validation (comedicly fits for drake) or "DUCKWORTH" which tells a story about his dad and the head of his label and how one thing could've ended with him growing up without a father and becoming victim to gang violence. J-cole is a mix of both where he kinda says something but more so focuses on making it sound good. never was much of a fan. to me listening to j-cole is like eating a burger with no cheese, lettuce, or condiments. just beef and some buns
