So far I've had 241 letters ''threatening'' a visit over the past 5 and a half years. Every letter went straight in the bin and guess what, zero visits! I'm happily watching all the TV I want (including everything that the BBC says I can't) without a licence.

I wonder if the letters tv licensing send out could be seen as harassment, it’s not fair that women are seen as a soft touch or easy target as it were. Does the harassment law only apply to individuals and not companies? TV licensing think they are important, they are not. If ever they do turn up at your door, politely say “ no thankyou”, leave the chain on the door. They will go away and you carry on enjoying life without them.

There was a legal case a few years back where they found it was harassment. Unfortunately, for reasons that are beyond me, it was not considered to apply to people not involved in the case directly.

The way they collect money is so open to abuse. As far as I know the U.K. is the only place to trust the population over TV viewing. Best take the money out of tax like they do elsewhere. Stops people being guilty or feeling they need to hide.

The .Gov petition to Abolish the tv licence and make the BBC subscription sent an answer the other day. In the response it mentioned the review in 2026, but it also said that the Secretary of State has ruled out that the review can look at creating a new tax to replace the fee. One good piece of news.

It goes back to the old days when people had battery powered TV sets and you didn't need a license for them as they were mainly used by students or people in caravans where you'd already be covered by your parents TV license or the one you had at home

@@djmattblackGoes back even further than that. Before John Logie Baird gave us the television, you had to have a Radio Licence. My late father remembered going to the Post Office as a young boy (about 9 or 10) with a letter his maternal grandmother received, the letter entitled her to a free Radio Licence, as she was blind.

There are different ranges of what a "legally blind" can see. They may only see shadows or peripheral vision, or maybe nothing. But beingnlegally blind doesn't mean that you cant see. You have to have something like 75% vision loss to be legally blind. So yeah they could still watch TV, although they may not see it clearly, to its full extent.

When you go with Sky, Virgin, etc, they state which channels you can watch. Yes, the BBC is listed, so do Sky, Virgin pay the BBC for the service, so does that mean the viewer is covered? Great videos .

It is clearly restraint of trade. But no one in the business wants to take on the regulator or threaten advertising revenue by making the BBC compete for ad revenue.

IMHO Sky should have told the government to do one when they wanted to broadcast in the UK. They could have offered the BBC and other commercial stations at the time for whatever the TV licence was at the time in the early 90's as an add on. Sky might not have being available if they did that but people pressure could have forced the government to back down and allow Sky to broadcast in the UK.

Send email to tv licensing telling them you dont require a tv license any more and the reasons. Claim back the money if owed until you recieve money in your bank. Cancel direct debit. Email opt out of junk mail to the occupier flyers etc to stop all that crap if you want to. Buy a cheap doorbell camera to see who is at your door. Never open door to Goons.

The odd BBC show. They are ALL odd and are not worth the time to watch. Paying the BBC in order to watch any other channel, even channels from another country, is akin to paying Tesco to shop at Sainsburys or when on holiday in another country paying a supermarket here in the UK before shopping in any other country

I would advise people to never subscribe to the streaming adverts these channels promote. Specially Channel 4, they are in cahoots with the BBC to confirm your watching programmes being streamed on your TV !

If you really want to watch BBC stuff then there are several streaming services which have these or just buy a copy on DVD. You won't need a licence for either. The 80,000 a month is far the court cases.

You say you can’t watch bbc or channel 4 if you don’t have a tv licence, but you can’t watch any sky channels either as they are all being broadcast live. All you can watch are programmes on apps like Amazon, Netflix, Disney+ etc. no one seems to make this clear. If I cancel my tv licence, I have to cancel sky too.

Question: I don't watch TV, no aerial, but my 2011 LG has Iplayer baked in (can't uninstall it) if i was one of the unlucky 2 in 60 million people a year that got a warrant to examine my devices, would this be a problem?

You have to sign in to iPlayer with a BBC account in order to use it. If it's not signed in with an account, it can't be used.

I have iplayer built into my ps4, I clicked on it once just to have a look, but nope they want you to create a user profile before you can use it, so I wouldn't worry if you get a warrant, you can prove you don't use it because you don't have an account. Therefore you can't watch it. Hope this helps.

He was saying that the licence law says it is what you actually use the equipment for that counts. That is correct.

Had a letter from a "Customer Director" not the usual Red everywhere Threat from the enforcement manager" couldn't send it to tv license stop as the image was too big is there an email address i sent it to you on Twitter/X

Get out of jail free card. If you have a TV license and you are visiting someone that doesn't, don't plug your device into the mains! That us bad. Instead plug it into their laptop or PC via the USB port, even a gaming console will do ! 😝🤑🤣

While CJC says you can't plug it into the mains, which is correct, the law is that it must be powered by its own _internal_ power supply, so not just the mains but any external power supply would then technically require a licence, which is why cars/boats/caravans, etc. require another licence if they have a TV powered by the battery that's used to watch/record live content from a TV service.

Someone here sell me the BBC TV License and I am being serious. 1. I am never at home to watch something live. 2. About 20 years ago I had a VHS recorder but it would always fail and nothing I wanted recording was. 3. It's all Catch Up now so who needs to try and fail to record something ? 4. What is on the live TV or BBC iPlayer you think I should watch. Primarily on Catch Up because I can't watch anything live: See option 1. BBC iPlayer must have wonderful stuff to catch up on, please let me know. Sell me a license, what am I missing from the BBC iPlayer App (on any device TV, Phone, Tablet, Mobile something or other, ether, something that hasn't been invented yet that can access the BBC iPlayer App ? Also, do the TV License Detector Vans have a License ? 😝🤑😜🤪🤣
