I did complete the 'no licence required' form a couple of years ago, but I don't intend to do so again. I don't have to tell the DVLC that I don't need a driving licence, or the Post Office that I don't need a dog licence, so why should I tell the BBC that I don't need a TV licence?

Got my latest threatening letter today. One a month. Pure harassment. So I phoned them up and gave them a 10 minute harangue about threatening me. That cost me nothing as my phone bill is un-limited calls. But it cost them 10 minutes of staff time. If everybody did that, the letters would become too expensive to send out.

Isn't it a BBC subscription fee, and NOT a Licence. ?? Just that NO other TV Station has never had any intimidating adverts or Scary intimidating warnings on their channels.. So I presume the BBC is falsely advertising the BBC Subscription fee for decades as a TV LICENCE to scare people into buying something they probably dont need..

The government says it's not a BBC subscription fee, and the money actually goes to the Treasury, not the BBC, who only get as much of it as the government chooses.

I live in God's own county and have never heard of "Yorkshire Live". A bit of research reveals a claim that is part of ReachPLC (the UK’s and Ireland’s largest commercial news publisher), a member of and regulated by IPSO, the Independent Press Standards Organisation, apparently very good credentials. However, Yorkshire Live's editor is someone called Wayne Ankers (honestly, that is what it says under "About Us" on the web site) and, at this point, I wondered whether I could believe what I was reading. Any road up, it offered very poor advice about declaring no licence needed, saying one must do this if one decides to go licence free. I'll not be bothering with it. Got to sign off now. Time to exercise the whippets.

I cancelled my licence back in November and declared i dont need a license on their website. I got a letter 3 weeks back making sure i didnt need a license and what i needed one for. I had toilet paper at the time, but it was very handy to start the fire that evening

So the BBC are saying that they've funded these vans for decades, no doubt at great cost, and yet they've never been used in a prosecution? Think of the environmental impact these must have had over the decades, wastefully driving around the UK full of expensive kit that soon ends up in landfill to be replaced by newer stuff that ends up dumped a few year later too.

I also watched black belt barrister with his videos about the tv license and according to his video the bbc are saying that a tv license is required for watching live streaming on KZbin even if it’s live from outside of the uk So anyone who does livestream should hound the bbc for some of the licenses fee money

He has stated that it's only for 'broadcasters' streaming on KZbin, but it's still a grey area. And seeing as foreign TV station are not controlled by OFCOM a UK licence shouldn't be needed.

But it's not even true. You'd only need a licence if you watched live content from a TV service. CJC could do a live stream on KZbin and you can watch that legally without a licence.

@@stevegee8010 Sure, but they can't decide exactly who is a TV service and who isn't. As a recent example, imagine that Tucker Carlson with Putin was live instead of pre-recorded. I could watch that live along with 50 million of other people and I wouldn't need a licence. But if I use my Roku to watch a local weather channel in Miami with maybe 10 viewers at any time I would need a UK TV licence. Bonkers.

If the TV Detector Vans worked so well, Capita wouldn't have to send the boys round, would they? All the evidence would be compiled by the vans and submitted to the courts. They'd save a fortune in staffing costs and still get tons of persecutions. Oops, sorry, I meant prosecutions.

There are lots of people out there that collect DVDs and Blu-ray and 4k discs. Digital hasn't destroyed everything yet. I work in Age UK and I point people towards your videos sir. Keep being awsome

My boss only watches Netflix and Amazon Prime on her tv but she still pays for a TV license because she's convinced the license is needed to simply own a television set. I tried explaining to her but she just couldn't grasp it. She kept just sauing "if you own TV you need to have a license for it even if you're using it for netflix"

I became Licence free close to two years ago, I will still tell them I don't need one, just so I don't get all the annoying letters, total waste of paper, and fuel to get the letters to my address, that's the only reason, if I get a knock one day I will just open the door and say " No thanks" and shut it. How much paper and fuel do TV licencing waste, but I guess its keeping the Royal Mail going at the moment.

I believe that the vans were real and collected evidence in the 50's and 60's but they never used the evidence in court because someone would have asked how they worked to detect someone had a TV when the goons could just walk down a street and see if property's had an aerial on the roof then knock on the door and say they were breaking the law because they had an aerial on the roof so they must have a TV in the home. From the late late 60's people started getting more electrical equipment in their homes like fridges, freezers and other items so the equipment had little evidence that the signal was a TV when it could be a fridge or freezer. The latest vans are no more than a van with the TV Licensing logo on the side. They go round the streets trying to install fear into the people who don't have a TV licence in the hope they will buy one. The score should take 6 points off for saying you have to tell the BBC that you don't need a licence so for me it would be 4 if that.

Freeview replacement Freely is apparently going to be seamless integration of things you do need a licence for and you don't. Rather than have it separately like they do at the moment the old stuff isn't going to leave for a bit because Freely has a necessity to buy new equipment. I am for scrapping the BBC.

While this channel is all about cancelling your TV license, maybe as a on-off there could be a video on reducing the effect of the rise in cost coming in April for those that still have a need for a license? Cancel your license towards the end of Feb and ask for a refund on any remaining months. Then remember to not watch/record any live tv (or iplayer) until March. And on 1st of March, buy a new TV license. But remember to pay for the whole year at once.
