To answer one of the questions Stephen asked in regards to the helicopter and how it knows where to go itself: To orient itself it will use visual odometry (using a camera), altitude measurement using lidar, gyro and tilt sensors and a zigbee to communicate and to track the position, plotting its own coordinates inside its miniature Linux based computer (same cpu as an older Samsung Galaxy phone). Zigbee communication is effective up to about 1000m or even farther and has been tested with UAVs on Earth already so in that sense it's pretty exciting to see it work on another planet. It works very similar in that sense to some of the commercial Parrot copters you can buy that can follow your phone around - very similar open source tracking software, except that it's tracking the rover via zigbee communication

As much as I LOVE science. Neil deGrasse Tyson fails to understand that we in society are ALL heroes. People who take your trash every week keep you from getting sick, just as much as the Lab Workers who developed the COVID Vaccines. The difference is the guys that take out the trash get paid a lot less and will NEVER be considered any kind of hero. Neil: Stick to science. Social issues are not your area of expertise!
@thedarkness125
@thedarkness125 3 жыл бұрын
@@goyoelburro nah, a hero is someone who goes above and beyond what is the acceptable norm to help. As a society we have decided that trash pickup is the norm for sanitation reasons. It would be no differemt from recognizing someone for washing their hands after wiping their ass. We can appriciate waste disposal workers without cheapening the efforts that selflessly give of themselves to better society. Trash pickup is also simply becasue we as a society are lazy fucks and wpuld rather pay someone to pick it up than take it to the landfill ourselves..btw your trashman gets paid quite well. How wonderful is it to see and listen to two intelligent beings discuss a subject with grace, dignity and humor. No disparaging name-calling or political argument. I am refreshed and happy. That no atmosphere joke was stellar. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, you are a wonderful guest.

I don't know how old you are, but you might want to know that for over 20 years Gates was a ruthless software robber baron with no interest at all in social issues, just in expanding the Microsoft empire. It was only after decades of Microsoft's commercial dominance that Bill--maybe because of Melinda or maybe just because he's really smart--ventured into philanthropy. So maybe the same could happen to Musk, Bezos, and Branson.

You clearly do not know enough about Gates. Suspend your disbelief and Let Russel Brand educate you on the subject kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJXZYWmgjdGiepY ''In the 18 african countries he 'Helped'' Poverty rose by over 20%.'' In india he was going to ''revolutionize agriculture'' ended up replacing heirloom seeds with GMO patent seeds while using technology to wreck the working class. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, just because the intentions may seem good, does NOT mean the actions are good and helpful.

Colony? Anyways, they're talking space stations that function as hotels, a company called Bigelow Aerospace is trying to design one with inflatable modules, a technology NASA was working on until the feds told it to stop and sold all the tech and patents back in the 1990s (I think). A few years ago they sent a test module to the ISS, they called it a the BEAN. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigelow_Expandable_Activity_Module

It's sad we're too primitive to cooperate on a global scale and handle our Earthly problems while also exploring space It's always thought to think about how far we could be if racism, sexism, etc. were not the acceptable norms until basically the past 3-5 decades. WE are so primitive and have so far to go.
