Reed cams went out of biz BC John Reed passed away in a plane crash, the company had a ton of success with circle track/ cup cars, not known for drag racing so much. But back in the day Reed Cams was very respected.

Yep, I use to buy from John.

Thx for the reply Mr. Powell, I’m not going to reply to the comment section that seems to think that Reed Cams went out BC of a buyout or something like that, they never sold junk, you know that, mistakes happen. John Reed and company were a bunch of super smart cam guys and it breaks my heart to see comments from people who never even knew the history of Mr.Reed or the company, or what happened,

You’ve convinced me there’s a lot to check out when looking for a cam! Thanks for another interesting video, Daniel

needing to move back in the block could hurt the gear, did you say there was lifter failure on that one lobe but what about the other? If there is not a better core then it's time for a billet, heat treat after a rough grind
@PowellCams25 күн бұрын
Just 1 lifter failed
@edpetrocelli263327 күн бұрын
Might be why it eats the gears, not positioned in the block correctly

If the core was intended to be a 110 LSA and it was ground with a 113 would it not be heat treated deep enough to allow the LSA adjustment by grinding away too much of the opening ramp ?
@PowellCams29 күн бұрын
No,

+ or - 1.5* is maximum LS change + or -10* is maximum duration at .050 change +.030” lift change max so i was told several times that, from a fresh core or one that wasn’t changed much from original please correct me Daniel, if necessary

@duanebusch72 one feature affects the other so that really isn't accurate

@@PowellCams it’s easier on the core to remove duration than add it, and easier to increase lift than take it away? also, best not to change lobe sep… Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Sir. Why can't cam company run their cams through the cam doctor like you do so people will get the cam that they ask for. Is it that they just don't care. I would rather get a cam from a person that cares about the product that he makes.
@PowellCams26 күн бұрын
@paulfriebel2758 it takes time, time is money, I can only assume that's more important to them

just before they went out of biz? has the ringing of, hey this customer wants a cam for a core we dont have, and we are closing shop, so lets take this one that already ground, use it to remake the cam he wants and cash in while we can. i mean if he got it new direct, and its been re ground so far beyond core ability, who else would have been the ones grinding it? in this biz i have in my 65 years, 38 of which has been automotive engine repairs, rebuilding a lot of shady questionable deals like that coming from shops /distributors who are closing and cashing in on every last possible cent they can make, knowing in a few weeks time they are long gone and liable for nothing. hate to say it, bashing anyone like that but there are not many possibilities. crane was great as was accel and when they both closed there was a period of garbage to weed through after.

@@mitchm275 Bullet are pretty good about which core they pick. Mark Chacon always bases what he can do for me on the cores he has available. if not core is available he ain’t gonna grind it

Same here on the repair with 23 years and Master certifications under my belt. It sad to see but it happens. Just like a new car model, don't buy it till they work the bugs out. Going out of business.....don't buy it cause who's gonna stand behind it if it fails. Hard lessons for some to learn.

@@duanebusch72 I use bullet cams too, no problem with the product at all. 6 weeks delivery time is starting to get to me. the wait times are all over the board depending if they have the inventory I`m thinking.
