@@josephandreuccetti7270 i think you should try making one yourself and then maybe you'll understand. This hack stayed within the 40 kilobytes of the original game. Others use expanded space and tons of custom assembly code to do what they do.

I don't think that Luigi was really *originally* intended to be a whole character. It's more like he was just created so it wasn't just a generic P1, P2 situation like most games. It's kinda like how they treat Waluigi now.

Speaking of luigi you should play the romhack “the mystery of luigi”. It’s based off an insanely hard famicom game and retains the same difficulty but in smb1. It’s pretty short though so I’d have something else lined up for the day.
