The Legendary SMB1 romhack widely known as "Super Mario - Frustration", actually titled Super Mario Forever, had a little known sequel version that added a world 2! At the time it was uploaded, only the first 500 people were able to download it. Let's see what secrets it hides!

​@@-jadepink-500 Hmm, these are in katakana mainly because of low resolution, usually they are written as 頑張れ and 頑張った respectively. But as for ガンバレ it’s sometimes written in katakana colloquially to make it look more like a standalone interjection than a normal imperative sentence. ガンバッタ is unusual and maybe feels a bit humorous.

would you consider holding a romhack competition? I'm coming from a position of total ignorance, so I guess what I'm saying really depends on the sophistication and ease of use of the smb1 romhacking tools, but it would definitely encourage some new people to lend their creativity to the game.

I think I'd feel too much like straight up copying simpleflips lol. But I have wondered about what I could do to potentially improve/grow romhacking community for this game. Part of me wonders if there's a big enough interest, or if this game even should have that interest lol. Idk why I feel that way. I guess it just feels weird when someone puts in a lot of effort to like, make p switches, and then you realize that's just already in every other mario game lol. And smw and sm64 romhacks are insane. I'm just rambling at this point lol. But there's a romhacking channel in my discord that has some people working on stuff in there.

@@Kosmicd12 yeah I hear you, maybe it's best to let it naturally mature and reassess when the barrier for entry isn't as high? e.g. the smw weekly romhack race has a base hack that includes a number of QoL patches that prospective creators don't have to struggle to implement on their own, if that makes sense as a parallel. anyway, definitely think the attention you're bringing is very positive regardless, and I appreciate that.

@@Kosmicd12 definitely. while I have some assembly experience, I don't have an especially deep knowledge of the NES architecture, and I still know there are a lot of roadblocks wrt working with smb1 and the NES in general. it's mind-blowing what people have been able to accomplish within that framework as-is, and maybe the ceiling isn't a whole lot higher than what we've already seen (if maintaining compatibility with real hardware). we can still dream, though. :)
