I was sober for almost 18 years, then relapsed and it took me almost 3 years to get back to continuous sobriety...after a stroke. Which almost ended my life. Now I am 21 months sober, mobile, with my energy and mind and definitely a new lease on life. I live in a small town and although I don't ascribe to AA as the only way to get and stay sober, I still attend meetings because at this point I will do anything to stay sober. So thank you Jae for posting all these marvellous videos. Proud of this community 😍

@sarahcowan148911 ай бұрын
@@cl3x18999about 3 months before the stroke I was falling asleep and of a sudden realized that if I did not stay sober something would happen, something bad. So I went into the hospital on Feb 4 for detox, and had the stroke, while in hospital! on Feb 22. I have no memory from Feb 4th to sometime in April but apparently I was talking with a nurse when the stroke started so she knew what to do. I was intubated for about 3 weeks and spent 3 months altogether rehabbing in hospital. I had very high blood pressure for months before from drinking, and smoking but otherwise no symptoms.

32M- Hi! first time commenting, I currently have 7 days under my belt! After a couple years of moderate to heavy drinking. I sobered up for 7 months in 2021, but then relapsed and fell back into the void for a couple years.... I lost a lot of friends, and haven't lived up to my potential because of alcohol, but I'm trying my best to change. I tried to do sober october, but suffered an painful injury from a skateboarding accident, and also my dog died, so I handled the pain the way I knew how to... but now I'm back on the sober path.

I have been sober for 5 years and I can tell you I’m so happy and feel proud and so much healthier. I do have a new problem and I’m going to start getting that under control it is sweets. I’ve always loved sweets and as a kid in the 60s I was a candy and soda addict, then I found alcohol and that was the big problem from 16 to 65. I was a binge drinker and even after having a family I still put alcohol first in my life , it took a divorce and constantly feeling horrible after a binge drinking episode I said I need to get rid of alcohol , so in October of 2018 I quit with some help from Craig Beck and listening to him and he made sense. I exercise everyday and I am cutting back drastically on sweets. Stop drinking alcohol it is never too late Mike

Substitute those cravings with sparkling water and orange juice or lime juice...it helps to control cravings. Also keeping myself busy and walk...walk a lot. My body is craving sweets, I'm giving this to my body for now...but next week will start reducing it.

Hi Jae, I like to check in with you now and then, this video is one of the best you’ve done. I have 30 years on you, yes I’m 72, and gave up alcohol just 6 months ago. It’s been an interesting journey, but I haven’t returned to alcohol. I’m about 2 weeks away from major surgery for a growth on my adrenal gland (I didn’t know I had an adrenal gland until this diagnosis). What I’m grateful for is if this should prove to be the end of me, I’m so pleased that I’ll face that end sober, and in a positive frame of mind. If it isn’t the end, and there is a chance of that, then I’ll go on to the next phase of my life without the awful crutch of alcohol. Thanks for all the cheerful encouragement and I’d like to offer encouragement to others trying to get of of the bad habit of alcohol consumption, if a stupid old man like me can do it anyone can. Good luck on your journey folks. 😁😁😁

I've had one or two drinks, however, and this is a big however..... I have not slipped back into old habits of drinking every night to excess. It's been rare occasions, and only when my wife has felt like a red wine after a busy day. It's been very limited, but it's a massive difference compared to pre-May this year when I started my big streak of soberness. I didn't think I'd ever be able to have this relationship with alcohol, but here it is. I wonder whether continued take it or leave it will just end up being me done with it. Just wanted to drop by and let you know. I haven't gone hard off the rails, I am a changed man and I have you to thank for it. Keep being awesome :D

I learned about the being alone thing yesterday. Since I feel my change in perspective I actually enjoyed being by myself. I took myself on a lunch date to get some falafel. In the past eating at a restaurant by myself felt negative. I felt self conscious. I felt that whole no one wants to do anything with me thing. Yesterday I was content. I had a whole amazing day. I was even finally able to stumble across the full house house while walking around! If I was still in that negative mindset I wouldn't have had the motivation to just go out and walk around.

First time comment on your channel, it's a fantastic channel by theway, just one of many of my embarrassing situations when i was drinking, i was ones stayed in Cardiff overnight for work, i got a room where there was other people stayed so it was a shared room(tried to keep cost down but never counted for the alcohol in that manner) anyway, i must have had about 12 pints of beer and went to sleep, woke up in the middle of the night waiting to pee, i just went across the room and started peeing down the side of another person's bed head and started only in the middle of it i realised this wasn't the toilet! I went back to bed feeling like shit and so ashamed of myself. This was just one out of probably 100 embarrassing times.
@GettingSoberAgain11 ай бұрын

I'm most def NOT one for the AA! Each to their own. I've always been rather doing things my own way, follow my own path, my own instinct and inspirations..... I started doing a vlog to keep track of my progress on my channel as well, even just to look back at, keep me inspired. I think there are going to be a lot of changes happening in the not too far future, outside our little homestead, that will have a positive impact on the inside of our boundary hedge, so I'm looking forward to that! My first solid week of this sobriety journey is in the books. I have tried to stop or even cut down my drinking a few times before but each time I quickly went back to drinking. Things are different this time and, besides my determination, the only difference is my daily dose of these videos. I’ve made it through little to no sleep the first 4 days, incredible cravings, a very emotional day, Christmas with the family which has always included alcohol before. Things are different this time. I don’t want to feel like I did while drinking daily anymore. That wasn’t living. That was existing and, perhaps, I am fortunate to say that because things could have been very different. I’m formulating a plan for 2024 to catch up on projects and organizing that has been neglected the past few years. Things feel fresh and d positive. And I like that. Much appreciation as always, Jae. You’re the best.
