It can be hard to continue the discipline needed to stay outside the simulation. Played with an older man today that DIDN'T use driver at all. He referenced Harvey Penick's Little Red Book as his guide to enlightenment against clubs that hurt his game and score. Tempered his expectations to being happy with bogie golf. I noticed that he had a few pars, probably scored better than bogie today.

Thanks for this Matty. When I get down or have a bad shot on the course I try to recall a good shot I had during the round. I take that feeling of confidence going and carry it to every shot. Another thing I do is to look forward to the next shot as a great shot. I was with a buddy and we were really screwing up a par 5. I told him that we were going to hit good shots on that hole, and our mood lightened. Look forward to your next great shot

Honestly your channel has re-kindled my love for golf. I took 25 years off and in 2 months I’m going from 100+ to having my first under 90 game. Playing 1 hole at a time and not treating it like a whole game score helped really stay focused on my shots that I was making in the moment. I actually had a rough +11 front 9 in 100 degree Midwest heat. Hit the club house, refilled my water, bought a protein bar and some gatorades. I finished +1 on the back 9. Keeping it positive. I still have some work to do, but seeing it all fall together one at a time has been rewarding. Thanks!

I am just now learning the Way of the Playa and these videos have already changed my mindset for the better. Now I need to break 90 and follow Matty's advice for an entire round, which is not easy when everyone around you is saying " go for it!". It is also hard on my course which regularly has a stimp reading of between 12 and 13 and a slope of 137 from the easy tees. I took a paying lesson as advised by the Golf Sidekick, and my only blow up holes were when my teaching pro recommended I go for it on two shots that were outside my confidential "distancia" range. Lesson learned. Back to the range (⅓ cutting, ⅓ chipping, ⅓ irons and driver). Thank you Matty Boom-Boom!!!!

Interesting topic. Thanks Playa! I ain't a monk or anything, but Buddhists talk about how we are such polarizing creatures. Rather than good shot vs bad shot -- simply accepting the shot helps me from getting overly excited or from throwing my clubs in anger. Ha! I do err on giving myself the space to relish in what I see as a positive by default (because as apposed to ancients Buddhists, we moderns have mass media and are exposed to an excessive amount of darkness). Nelly talks about the Three-P's: Patience, Persistence & Presence, which I also find helpful -- especially when practicing! Nine Wood??? Ha! I luv it! I have a high launch Seven Wood (24 degrees) which is essentially a 9 wood I think (?). I am now looking for an 11 wood! "16 Bigmacs on the golf course" ??? Ha-ha!!! 😂🤣😂 Keep up the good work Matty!

Went out yesterday with a focus on inspiring hope for myself. Never walking up to a green and saying "I'm going to 3 putt this". Always telling myself I'm good enough for this shot. One of the things I kept repeating was, "This ball is going in the hole, there's a ball magnet in there and it's going in". Had one of my best rounds, aside from one hole. Nevertheless, made 2 GIRS total yet 4/9 Pars - some great bogey saves as well. 16 Putts through 9. Overall your methods have helped me go from a 25 HC at the start of the season to a ~ 13 HC now. Thank you.

16 putts isn't that bad. If you can get down to 14 putts and 5/9 greens you'll be in the mid 70's for 18 holes. 100yds and in is where it's at. Practice as much as you can chipping and getting up and down. Always putt out when you're practicing too. Very important

Today is one of those days I wonder should I hang it up. Got to the course after not being able to sleep all night in anticipation to find the range was closed. I’ve learned I must warm up, and if I can’t, I try to be easy on myself. Also, playing partner was late, and that sucked because we had to then squeeze in. Long story short, I think there’s a mark on the hostel of every club in the bag. I parred one hole. Most others I couldn’t finish. It was miserable. I thought the days of not being able to keep score were behind me. Melt downs like that happen, and it really sucks. Frankly, there’s no fun to be had when you can’t hit the ball fairly straight or get off the tee. But I’ll try to figure it out, and be back on the course tomorrow. So if you’re thinking about tossing your clubs in the pond, don’t. Not yet.

Make the preshot routine and process bullet proof. Practice it a lot. When you hit good shots, stop and FEEL them in you. Feel what you did. Remember it so you can bring it back next time. It's important. I was hitting balls in the Trackperson the other day and tryng to dial in 1/3 wedge swings. I wanted to make them all travel a tight range. i started getting it, but then I realized after my 3rd wedge, I had not taken note of the feel, the steps, the process. Then I focused on what I was doing. Pinch the ball into the turf, flare left foot, head still, feel like it's 25% Now I can take that to the course. If I didn't have that, I would go and let all kinds of demons into my head. We need a religious sort of process that prevents the opening of the portal for th e demons. You can benefit from living meditation. I hate this idea of meditating for 20 minutes with an app or sitting like a monk for 30 minutes when we just can't and don't know what we are doing. Living meditation is what i like to do. When i wash dishes, i wash dishes, nothing else. For daily driving when i drive my car, I drive, nothing else...not listening to music, just feeling the drive. I remember all my drives now, instead of being in autopilot and wondering how I got home. When I take a shower, I shower. I feel the water on me, the feeling of the warm water, the tatse of the water etc. It's just about putting yourself in a place where you are not distracted and you can practice it with everyday activities ALL DAY. You can meditate every single thing you do, by focusing on it. Then when you get to the course, your intrusive thoguhts will stay outside.
