The "Mom" reveal was momentous for so many people. Until this episode, the only time we had seen the triplet's mom was one comic strip decades ago. She never made an appearance in the old Ducktales cartoon, and other times they appeared, and we all just had to go with the fact that Donald took care of his nephews. Also, here is an easter egg. Go back and watch the scene where Webby is interrogating the boys. On the way is a pink duck doll that has been nailed there. That is Webby's original design from the old Ducktales. She was the "Girl character" that spoke all sweet and babyish. That was the way the writers told everyone "Yeah, we aren't doing that with her". New Webby is so much better.

To help you out, Huey is the one in red. He's the oldest of the group and is mainly smart and intelligent. He's the leader of the trio. Dewey is the one in blue. He just wants to stand out and explore and have exciting adventures. Louie is the one in green. He's the youngest and is kind of laid-back and just wants to relax.

Strangely enough this has happened to him twice; where he plays this incredibly, hateable jerk, but he also plays a charming, and funny goofball of a dummy. You're right that this show makes lots of Disney references, but those weren't references to Mushu or Aladdin. The lamp was from Ducktales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp. Most of the references in this series come from the old Ducktales cartoon, movie, and games, as well as the old Scrooge and Donald comics. There's also a bunch of references to other Disney Afternoon cartoons (Goof Troop, Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, etc.) and other more obscure lore.

I don't have a source for this, but I'd once heard that TaleSpin was originally supposed to be a DuckTales spin-off starring Launchpad, and would feature more of his family and their air circus (The Flying McQuacks) with Glomgold as the corporate villain, but the recent theatrical re-release of The Jungle Book was so popular that they decided to switch the DuckTales characters out for Jungle Book characters. So Launchpad got to be Darkwing Duck's sidekick instead, and let's face it, Shere Khan as Cape Suzette's ruthless corporate CEO was _much_ better than Glomgold could ever be. This does contradict the other fact that the concept for TaleSpin was written _after_ the Jungle Book re-release and was written and planned in an unusually short amount of time, less than a year if I recall correctly (and I very well may not be).

This version of Ducktales is actually GREAT! One of best revivals/remakes Disney has ever made. One thing I like on this is the fact they made the triplets really distinctive from one another, with different designs, voices and personalities, which are interestingly a represention of Scrooge's best qualities: Huey (the oldest triplet) is smart and responsible; Dewey (the middle triplet) is fearless and with a great thrist for adventure; and Louis (the youngest triplet) may be greedy but he is very crafty. If there's one thing that this show does an amazing job at is in the developing of the relationship between the characters and I can't wait for you to see how the story unwinds, because there is a lot of twists.

One of the primary things I love about this reboot outside of the stories and the humor - the cast is stacked! yep, interesting to watch the progression on that, with gravity falls having implied lgbt characters, then this and star vs evil sneaking a couple into background shots (and star having a character revealed as bi near the very end (as well as a heavily implied lesbian couple) then owl house finally getting to be overt with Lumity and others. Now for some context as well as fun/sad facts: - The 2017 DuckTales is a reboot of the 1980s DuckTales cartoon, a show that ran in Disney's first televised animation block called "The Disney Afternoon" (the Disney Afternoon is where other popular shows such as "Darkwing Duck," "Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers," "TaleSpin!," "Gargoyles," "Goof Troop," "The Adventures of Gummi Bears," and more first aired). - This version of DuckTales was made by fans of the original DuckTales cartoon as well as the old Donald Duck and Scrooge McDuck comics (hence the more comic book style). The universe of the 2017 show will also act as a Disney Afternoon Shared Universe so, even though it's not really a necessity to see the other shows from back in the day, there will be characters, settings, objects, and other references from those (and other Disney media) throughout the series. - I'll also note that half of the crew that worked on this show also worked on Gravity Falls (hence why some elements may seem familiar). - This was the first show to have Scrooge McDuck without his original voice actor, Alan Young, due to his passing before the show was announced. Instead (as you noticed), they got David Tennant to voice him (and he will not be the only Doctor Who alumni to appear in this show, either). With that said, they found an Alan Young sound-a-like voice actor for Scrooge's other appearances such as video games (Kingdom Hearts 3) and other shows (Legend of the Three Caballeros). - This is the first time since comics in the 1960s that Disney has referenced the mother of Huey, Dewey, and Louie AKA Donald's sister AKA Della Duck. I won't say anything else about her but the inclusion of the mystery around her is what sold me on watching this show. - There was supposed to be a fourth season but Disney chose not to renew during the first half of Season 3's production so don't be surprised if some of the storylines in Seasons 1 and 2 don't get answered as Season 3 is dedicated to the completion of the main storylines meant for the original Season 3 and 4 plans (also, sad fact: they actually cancelled DuckTales season 4 at the same meeting they originally cancelled Owl House season 3).

It's neat how this series makes the triplets unique individuals, where in the original series they were almost completely identical and interchangeable aside from being color-coded, and were even voiced by one voice actor. It wasn't until the "Quack Pack" spinoff series in the '90s that they were given fully distinct personalities and separate voice actors. The original nephews Hubert, Deuteronomy, and Louis, created in 1937, were named after Huey Long (Governor of Louisiana and United States Senator (1893-1935)), Thomas E. Dewey (Lawyer and 47th governor of New York (1902-1971)), and Louis Schmitt (an animator at the Disney Studio in the 1930s and 1940s, and not the attorney and member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Louis C. Schmitt Jr., who wasn't even born yet). Their colors would change regularly, with the only constant being that one of them was always red. A few comics accidentally created a fourth nephew via artistic error, jokingly named "Phooey, the long-lost brother". Their first appearance was in the "Donald Duck" Sunday newspaper comic on 17 October 1938. Donald received a letter that read _"Dear Donald: I am sending your angel nephews Louie, Huey and Dewey, to stay with you while their father is in the hospital. A giant firecracker exploded under his chair. The little darlings are SO playful. I hope you enjoy them. Your cousin, Della"._ They then immediately pranked Donald twice, once by connecting the wire from the porch light to the doorknob, and again with the classic "bucket of water on top of the door" gag. Webbigail Vanderquack and her grandmother Bentina Beakley first appeared in part 3 of the 1987 Ducktales animated series pilot movie "The Treasure of the Golden Suns". Scrooge hired Mrs. Beakley to be the boys' nanny after she told him she'd work for free (Scrooge's favorite price), only asking for room and board for herself and her granddaughter, as they were homeless at the time. Webby would join the boys on their adventures as the token girl, while Mrs. Beakley was the timid and excitable foil to Scrooge's unflappable no-nonsense butler and chauffeur, Duckworth (who, despite his name, was a dog). Launchpad McQuack was created for the 1987 animated series, as they couldn't obtain the rights to use Donald. His family were air circus stunt pilots, "the Flying McQuacks", but Launchpad left because he felt he wasn't good enough. It was a running joke that Launchpad was actually a _fantastically_ skilled pilot, but he almost never made a successful landing. But you know what they say, "Any landing you can walk away from..." Flintheart Glomgold was one of the "Main Three" antagonists; he was after Scrooge's title of "Richest Duck in the World". Each of the Main Three represented the different threats to Scrooge and his fortune: the corporate rival, blue-collar crime, and the supernatural (no spoilers, you'll meet the other two shortly, don't worry). In the comics Glomgold was South African, but they made him Scottish for the 1987 animated series to be a more direct parallel to Scrooge. He's so full of baloney, you might even call him the Duke of Baloney. Edit: I accidentally a word.

There's just something about this show... it does everything really well. It has a great pace, it's always fun and engaging, it's constantly funny on a bunch of levels, and it manages to have a developing unfolding lore and story without being obvious about it. Plus the voice talent is just out of this world.

Flintheart Glomgold, just like many other characters in this show, has his origins way back. In his case, he first appeared in Carl Barks' comics in 1956. He was supposed to be something of an evil twin to Scrooge, the second richest duck in the world. According to Don Rosa, the creator of Life And Times of Scrooge McDuck (a comic series about how Scrooge became rich starting from a shoeshine) Glomgold also got his fortune with hard work and being smarter than the smarties and sharper than the sharpies, but unlike Scrooge, not being fair and honorable in the process. In Don Rosa's story, they did meet in the past in Africa when both were poor. Glomgold tricked then Scrooge by pretending to be his friend and then stealing his all equipment (along with the campfire 😂) at night. Of course Scrooge got back at him later. In this show they met differently, which I'm not going to spoil. But that's why the ending of the first half of this episode was cliffhangerish - people who are already into the DuckTales universe already know who Glomgold is and this scene would be more exciting for them. 🙂 So don't be surprised if any other characters seem a bit out of place - they probably originate from old cartoons or comics. Some of them are a bit changed, not always in a good way though.

I haven’t seen the whole series of DuckTales but now that I’m seeing you react to it maybe I need to start watching it! What’s really funny when I first watched a DuckTales, Huey, Dewey and Louie have the colored shirts of Alvin and the Chipmunks 😂 Huey is Alvin, Louie is Theodore and Dewey is Simon. I love Dewey and Webby, Dewey is voiced by Ben Schwartz also the voice of Sonic in the live-action movies and Webby is voiced by Kate Micucci the voice of Terri in Amphibia!

I loved this show so much I picked it as my piece of media to analyze during my "Theories and Interpretations of Literature" course in college. I wrote five critical analyses over that semester using different literary theories. Fun fact: This show and the 1987 version were based on the Donald Duck comics that inspired Indianan Jones.

The Ducktales reboot is the reverse of the Teen Titans Go reboot. Teen Titans was plot driven, and the reboot is character driven. Ducktales was character driven, now it's plot driven. That being said, the original did have a fair number of episodes that ended up being several parts.

Dana directed this one too, as well as a bunch of the really good plot episodes. IIRC Terrace's work on this show was a major factor in disney giving Dana their own show in owl house a couple years later.

If you want to get the full context of all the jokes and references, I'd highly recommend watching the Disney Afternoon shows. Including (but not limited to) The original Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, The Gummi Bears, Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, Talespin, and Goof Troop.

This show starts off so strong and only gets better and better as the series go on. You get lore you were never even thinking to ask for. Add to that the fact that they managed to cultivate three very distinct personalities for the triplets and write stories that are so tailored to their personalities and the certain ways they would react to things. I cannot wait to see you go on this journey. This has genuinely become one of my favorite shows. I only watched it this year and I feel so disappointed in myself for not starting it earlier

This show restored my faith in remakes. It's an awesome show and clearly made by those who respected and loved the source material. Not just the original show (the stuff in the garage is actually a collection of shout-outs to that, including that oil lamp) but a lot of published material through out the decades the Duckburgh universe has existed. I'd say the most important to look into is The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, which was the somewhat official biography of Scrooge. It introduced a lot of the expanded family, afaik that also was the first time ever the triplet's mother was even alluded to. Having that reveal at the very end of this pilot truly was a huge reveal and an amazing sign of things that were yet to come at that point. Long story short, whoever wrote this series put a lot of love and research into it, and it shows in the best way possible. ^^.

This is a fun and great series. It’s based off the comics and earlier cartoon (which was also based off the comics). And I’ve heard many of the writers wrote for Gravity Falls. They pull bits and pieces in from other Disney properties too, many the “Disney Afternoon” stuff, but it mainly focuses on Ducktales lore. Enjoy!

Trivia: the little dot patterns in background shading you sometimes see are based on an old illustration tech called "zip-a-tone", which was like a rub-off sheet of dots that came in different sizes and densities that you could use to rapidly apply a "grey" effect using only black-and-white (printing tech couldn't really do "grey" at the time). Not all comic artists and illustrators used it but many did

@@bryanmoberg8408Fr, not just season 2, season 1 shows a lot of complex psicology for Dewey, and the ep of the The Last Crash of the Sunchaser makes you in constant tension the whole ep, season 2 is gorgeous with Louie’s plot, the best one in my opinion and does very well how a 10 years old can deal with their emotions (we’re not going to talk about the seasons end🤜😭) the season 3 goes a little down, I wished they did more with Huey’s character but is very denvelope and they had to give space to the definitely villiains so is understandable, plus, it was cancelled

The reason for the comic book styled backgrounds is because a lot of the Ducktales cast got their start in various Disney comics from the 40's and 50's. Even Scrooge got his start there.

The reboot does it's own thing while still capturing the feel of the original (at least as far as I remember lol) I saw the first few episodes of the reboot a while ago, maybe I'll watch some more too.

To put it simply, this show is how you do a reboot right. The creators clearly had a deep love of the source material, but also enough clarity to understand what did work with the source material and what didn't and thus needed to be changed (Webby, as mentioned below, is one of the big examples. In the 80s show she was the token girl and her grandmother was just the matronly old housekeeper. As you can see already in this reboot, they scrapped that and basically rebuilt their characters from scratch.) The animation doesn't just have a bit of comic book style, it's directly influenced by the art of the Duck Tales comics, where the creators do pull some things from, but create other, new things just for the show so that it isn't just a rehash. For long term fans, there are SO many easter eggs and references to older versions, but they didn't overdo it to the point that brand new viewers would be lost. The show is three seasons, and each triplet does get more focus during specific seasons (though I won't say which triplet matches up with which season). Trust me when I say that, even if it's fed in bits and pieces, the story goes HARD.

His most iconic roles have him sounding British: Doctor Who, Crowley, Purple Man, Huyang. I feel like this cartoon really captures his fun personality, and that's why I like it.
