The great thing about Scream was it was so self aware, in that it even though it is a serious subject it constantly refers to old Horror films and makes reference to the plot of them etc. It also spawned superb sequels, each on of them is great too and well worth a watch. You gotta do the sequels, the writing is just so clever. This was a great film which I saw at the Cinema on release, it was just brilliant, and became a cult video rental film.

I am not remotely surprised that this is your favourite scary movie. Great taste as always, Cass. This was easily my favourite horror flick for years (but now sometimes it's Scream 4 instead aha). Wes Craven got a whole generation to not only fall in with love with horror, but also seriously raised our expectations for what horror should be.

I saw it in the theater because of Wes Craven. He was and still is my favorite director. I didn't know that I was watching the movie I will watch more than any other movie. The shock of Cassie's death was felt in the theater. You could here people saying things like "what the fuck" and other things along those lines. The amount of laughter was new to all of us. Horror movies just didn't have that much humor. So it made the screams more heart felt. None of us knew who the killers where. There was little reaction when Billy turned out to be the killer but gasps when Stu showed up with the voice changer. it was a wild ride. One I wish I could live again. The sequels are awesome as well but you know the formula so they weren't as impactful. I could go on and on but I don't want to write an essay. Enjoy your reactions by the way. Buffy is my favorite TV show and you do a great job with them.

27:40 "Look behind you, Jamie!" And you telling Randy to look behind him. The actor playing Randy is Jamie Kennedy. So Jamie (Kennedy) is begging Jamie (Lee Curtis) using the actor's name instead of the character's name and the same works for the audience watching Ghostface behind Randy. Cool scene on two levels.

I was 16 when Scream came out. I think it was the first movie I saw with friends, at night, without parent supervision. We had dinner at a pub near the cinema afterwards just us three girls. I remember liking the movie a lot, but I mainly recall my friends and the pub!

This is one of my favorite movies of any and all time! Roger’s voice, he as an unseen character, totally so important. I imagined it was the sheriff, and maybe the dad. The name of the suit was “Father Death”. I had already been a major horror fan growing up and this was absolutely revolutionary.

Okay, so: I was 16 when it came out, so pretty much the same age as the characters. Horror movies had been lagging a bit in previous years and this was HUGE. I didn’t get to see it in theaters because I was out in a really rural area, but my family rented it as soon as we could. We were watching it at night with the lights off and someone KNOCKED ON OUR DOOR during a tense scene. I remember absolutely taking flight! I mean, the movie is hilarious, but it’s also scary. I was already madly in love with Matthew Lillard (thanks to Serial Mom and Hackers), I lived just an hour and a half from the filming locations, and I was a weirdo who loved horror and snarky humor, so it felt like this movie was made just for me.

Everything you said at the end rings TRUE for me too!!! Anytime someone says they have NOT seen Scream I immediately make them watch it with me in the same room as I watch their reaction...lol. I finally got my older of two sons watch Scream and we ended up watching the ENTIRE series and went to see Scream 6 in theatres. It was epic!! I was 8yrs old when this movie came out and as soon as it was available to rent we went to Blockbuster to rent Scream. Yes kids, we had to go to the store back then to rent a movie and the scariest thing about it all was that sometimes the damn movie you rented was NOT rewound by the previous renter. Yes kids, multiple people have also touched and watched the exact VHS tape containing the movie you rented. Sorry kids no time to explain what a VHS tape is....lol. Anyways I remember after Casey Becker's death I immediately turned off the movie cuz it freaked me out so damn much!! Up to that point I had seen pretty much everything out there as far as horror movies. I watched all the Freddy, Jason, Meyers, Chucky films so I saw alot in my 8 years, but HOLY SHIT that first kill is still #1 in all of my personal horror film kills!! LOVE this movie til this day and I'll die on that grave....hopefully not too soon tho...lol

I remember around the 2nd weekend of its release I was at the theater waiting for my movie to open up, which was right next to a screen showing Scream. Two young women came out of the door- one was supporting the other, who was literally shaking and in tears. She couldn't handle the Drew opening scene and they asked a manager if they could switch to a different film.

I saw this in the theater the weekend it opened. I lived in Chicago at the time and it was a snowy afternoon. I was not a horror fan but my friends really wanted to see it. We got there seconds before the movie started, the theater was pitch black when we went in because we had just come in from the afternoon sun. The theater was packed, we couldn't see any empty seats and had to follow the voice of someone telling us there were empty seats by them. We had no idea what we were about to get into. It ended up being a perfect horror audience, screamed and laughed and jumped at all the right points. It was awesome.

Scream is my favorite scary movie because it was the first scary movie I was ALLOWED to watch, I had seen scary movies before, sneak watched them, but when it came out my aunt and uncle rented it and let me watched if I promised I wouldn't wake them if I had nightmares. I love it because the music, the vibe, is so 90s, the humor of it sums up the feel of the 90s. The meta commentary on the horror genre is great. One of my favorite lines is "Don't go there, Sid. You're starting to sound like some Wes Carpenter flick or something." The fact that Sid ribbed on getting cast as Tori Spelling (who was at the time best known for 90210 but was doing made for TV lifetime films and being accused of only getting them because her father was Aaron Spelling so it was a pretty good burn lol) if they made a movie about her ordeal. Just, perfect. Also adore Neve Campbell. Seeing her be a strong character after The Craft was great. Also I thought the killer was the Sheriff, we have literally -nothing- to indicate so other than a key shot of when the boots come down in the bathroom stall, then another shot of the shreiff stomping out his cigarettes in the boots. I thought I -had- it, I thought I was so smart lmao I was like 10.

The story goes Kevin Williamson was house sitting for some friends or something and one night was watching this crime program about The Gainsville Ripper. You can find an amazing chilling retelling of that story by KZbinr Mr Ballen here on KZbin. Anyway he said he started scaring himself watching the program and it inspired the first scene with Casey. Which he wrote in one night. But I believe he continued to work on the whole script for the duration of his stay while house sitting. He wrote the whole script in like three days. As well as something like a couple of five page outlines for the sequels! All in those three days. Which is insanely impressive to get all that writing finished in that short amount of time. His muse really possessed him during those few days!

5:45 Just so you know…. The Halloween series has 4 different storylines. 1. H1 and H2 2. H1, H2, H4, H5, H6 3. H1, H2, H H20, H Resurrection 4. H1, H 2018, H Kills, H Ends The Halloween series originally meant to be a anthology which is why Halloween 3 is a different story. But when H3 was released they realized people wanted more Michael Myers. Also it’s 2 complete remakes by a director named Rob Zombie who came out with H 2007 and H2 2009.

Great reaction, I love scream I originally saw it as a little kid in 1996. I'm old school Drew's death traumatized me for years, then when I re discovered it a few years later I loved it. I always thought it was Billy who was the killer, wasn't sure about Stu tho. Fact in a Mathew Lillard interview he actually was hired to be Stu in Scream 3 NOT Romain. Mathew said he was paid for it, but the movie was re written because of the Colenbine shootings at that time Hense why he never comes back. Miramax didn't want to make another scream about kid's at school soon after.

I think the first Scream movie works perfectly for its time Because of where technology lacked back in the day. Without stuff like caller id (which makes sense that it would show up in Scream 2 since those plug-in caller id’s came out at that time). As well as the way garage door openers operated without the sensors in the mid-90s.

I also always really, really love what they did with Sidney running up the stairs after she just criticized horror movies when the girl always runs up the stairs instead running out the front door. It’s a critique and commentary on the audience itself. Watch any reaction to this movie and the person watching always criticizes the characters for going here or there or doing this or that and calling characters stupid or what they’re doing is stupid. The reality is that we can criticize all we want while watching horror movies but when we ourselves are in a life or death situation, there’s not always enough time to sit and ponder and try to make logistically sound decisions. That’s why it’s always after the fact that we’re like “I should’ve done this or moved this way or went down the hall instead of in the bedroom.” Think about it, if Sid hadn’t went outside she wouldn’t have went back in the house, fastened the chain lock which causes her to be unable to open to the door to run outside instead of upstairs. But then again she wouldn’t have been able to call 911 on her computer if she didn’t run upstairs. You just never know.

I believe it was Drew Barrymore’s idea to play Casey instead of Sidney. They wanted her for Sidney but Drew was inspired by Janet Leigh in Psycho and the shock of what happens to her character. So Drew figured since nobody would expect her to die so soon, it would be a shock to the audience thus saying to them that if she can die in the first 15 minutes, all bets are off and anyone can get killed. Which is such a brilliant creative decision on her part because that’s exactly what happened. Drew is such a lovable person and has such a sweet presence on screen so upon first viewing no one would ever expect her to get killed off and in such a brutal way.

I was pushing 40 when this came out and never being a horror fan, I pretty much ignored its existence. And also never watch reactions to things I haven't seen. The only reason I watched this one is because Cass is so ridiculously likable and I knew I would never be interested in Scream anyway. But holy freaking moly! This movie has a cast! Courtney Cox? Neve Campbell? Drew Barrymore? Plus what? A half dozen others? What rock have I been living under for the last quarter century?

Met Matthew Lillard and Neve Campbell at a horror convention last year, (peep the pfp) and can confirm, that both him and Neve are incredibly sweet. I made eye contact with Skeet and 'bout nearly pooped myself. 😂 All three of them are so beautiful in person. Matt is a full foot and an inch taller than me, and he made himself smaller, to my level, so he didn't tower over me. So sweet! Neve pulled me in real close, and they were both just so warm and inviting. Incredible human beings, honestly. 10/10 recommend meeting them if you ever get the chance!

Scream is all about stereotyping slasher movies...they love to reference other horror movies like Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street...they want you to feel like it's fairly set in the real world. The mask of the killer (The Ghost Face mask) was inspired by a portrait but i honestly can't remember the name of the portrait. I think that was also why they called the film Scream because the mask looks like someone screaming. a big ideology in the Scream films is that films turns people into killers...but as we know now that is not true...the killer is already inside...films can just make a killer more creative.

I also love this movie... but when Billy shows up and says he was watching the Exorcist and it made him think of Sydney... I mean... that is not a well balanced boyfriend. Edit: to your "garage doors have a sensor that stops them now..." monologue... as someone who did see this in theatre I can tell you the answer is "sort of" By this time most doors would have had a "stop" sensor when the pressure was high enough. So it "shouldn't" damage a car but it could still sort of hurt trying to apply enough pressure to stop it.

I read in an article how Rose McGowan had a lot of input and dictation over her character Tatum including her wardrobe to the way she spoke and all her mannerisms. *From an Elle article about Rose playing Tatum - “McGowan wanted to show there was a side to Tatum that wasn’t just a “sarcastic throwaway bitch.” That way, when she died, you'd be emotionally affected: “Everything I did had to be cute, but not in a saccharine way. She has to be sassy, but not bitchy. Warm, but caustic.” McGowan had the grungy posters of the Indigo Girls in Tatum’s bedroom taken down, to the ire of production designer Bruce Alan Miller, and requested kitten posters put up in their place. “I wasn't mean,” she explains. “I was just like, ‘I would rather hurt your feelings than please your ego.’“ - I also believe it was her idea to scream out “Mom!” right before her head gets crushed.

You asked an interesting question when Sidney gets her first call from the killer and instead of calling the police she goes to the front door, looks through the window and decides to go outside to investigate. You asked where she got the guts to do that. Others have said she was stupid for doing that. However I think the answer to your question has two parts. 1. When she first humors the call and converses with the killer she thinks it’s Randy the whole time screwing around since the killer is referencing movies and Randy works at the video store. It isn’t until she’s about to hang up and go back inside the house and the killer says something disparaging about her mother in a demeaning manner. At that point she finally takes the call seriously, becomes insulted, says fuck you to killer and goes back inside. The second answer to your question, and frankly I think is the most important reason for her having guts - 2. Sidney becomes fearless. She is a fighter as a result of basically witnessing the brutal death of her mother only a year earlier. A trauma of that magnitude changes a person in either one of two ways: fearful or fearless. The sheriff even makes a remark about Sidney when someone makes the statement that she’s tough. He says “She’d have to be after what she’s been through.” Sidney just has zero tolerance for bullshit because she’s been traumatized by worse.

I've always to have two versions of this movie this one the mystery but always wanted a second version where its the killer perspective it has some of same scenes but most of it is all the parts we don't see with billy and Stu planning everything do research sidneys mom could be opening kill maybe both sshow their pov running outside Casey's house got boyfriend and everything especially the house party love to see them running around setting stuff up talking running off killing or thinking they kill someone also scene with sidney getting call be cool too seeing billy doing the phone call I think and Stu chasing Sidney disappearing Billy pops up with his phone while Stu running past where billy was at and took Sidney dads phone lol. I think Stu did phone call after billy was arrested how did billy get that voice changer into jail to make hid one phone call lol. Plus them kidnapping her dad been watching videos talking about this and billy distracting Sidney while Stu subdued her father that's why he turned on the music so crazy never thought about that before but now can't unseen it lol. Been knew it was Billy straight through they didn't throw me off don't know how he did it but he did it he acting too suspicious lol. Norman Bates didn't have a motive cause he wasn't the killer he was cleaning up after the killer cause he's loyal and loves his mother lol. His mother motive is that those dirty girls are coming by tempting Norman trying to steak him away put thoughts in his head like putting her in a hospital lol. Nope that's not happening lol. Yeah have you ever noticed stir attic when Sidney ran through it you see dolls hanging around he has some of them positioned like the victims in this movie like this is where they planned all this out or where Stu was fantasy ing about the kills reliving the kills or something lol. Figured Stu was dead but same love to see Stu back lol.

honestly, I wish I could!! But back when I shut everything down, I deleted everrrrryything. They don't exist anymore. I wasn't sure if I'd ever come back and I was really goin' through it at the time so deleting everything was a bit dramatic in hindsight, but what can you do. All hail depression meds - I don't think I'll pull a move like that again. But I'm so glad you enjoyed those reactions and I'm sorry that I can't give them back :(
