An excellent idea. However if it is 3 minutes before the fob goes to sleep the thiefs could get the frequency within that time, say when you were walking into a building or home. Three minutes is a long time. I think it's better to have cars where you physically put the key in the ignition to start. Or the old system where you physically input a 4 or 5 digit code that you set each time.

I was thinking the solution may be somewhere down this path. So you buy a small pouch to keep your fob in? In the same way you keep your “chip” credit card in an RFID- blocking’s card sleeve? Furthermore, so is the theft of the specific frequency or RFID ( forgive my ignorance of the technology used) of the fob achieved by a one-time proximity sweep of the fob by the cloning tool? Or can the cloning tool just be brought near the car only?
@Stevelangdon935 жыл бұрын

Really informative video and shocked of how quick he got into the car without the keys. However, wouldn't a simple RFID key fob pouch do the same thing, for very little money? For example when you get home, pop your car key in the pouch so the thieves can't scan for it?
@ChristopherWoods5 жыл бұрын
Surprised it's taken you this long to do a video about this Tim, it's been a problem for at least four years. Also, even cars like the ST which don't have keyless are susceptible due to an essential part of the car's electronics running code from 2005. The modules were reverse-engineered by Eastern European criminals; OBD dongles are now availale which can easily disable the (Thatcham-accredited) Ford alarm via CANBUS, then put the security system into key learning mode to clone a new key. Exactly how mine was stolen, took about 60 seconds from popping the window to driving away. Many owners now have Ghosts fitted to suppress CANBUS attack. Also quite surprised you didn't recommend people buy a Disklok! Layered security is what we need now - make it too much of a hassle to steal a car, they'll go after someone else's. Sad state of affairs. The Keyless Protector is a clever invention, I remember being impressed by it when it launched, but wow it's expensive. Any chance you could do a promo with them for some money off?
@chazoclock5 жыл бұрын
It’s great that solutions are out there to address this big problem. The sleep mode installed on the focus key is great, not keen on the slapping your pocket method though. New Range Rovers & X5’s have been the most common to be stolen by this method in my area. Surely the manufacturers are aware of this flaw, do they really value replacement sales more than protecting their customers vehicles 🧐

It used to take 15 minutes back in the 90s to program a new key through the OBD port (at least with Fords) for this very reason (people programming keys). Also could simply use an algorithm that once the car is locked, only an unlock command from a preprogrammed fob will let the car wake up. The OBD port should be dead anytime the car is locked with the fob. Its amazing that security from the 90s has been eliminated in the name of "convenience".

It just shows that this keyless entry is a load of bollax, why is it soo hard to put a key into a steering lock and turn it. Is there a new breed of ultra lazy people driving cars. We had an attempted break in at my house, we think the dogs scared them off. The police recommended that we add crappy brass locks to the windows, add stickers to the windows, get cameras. We did all of it for around £200. None of it would actually prevent them getting in if they wanted to, very little will. However just having a few visual things to make our house less appealing than the others round it would likely be enough to put them off. Steering locks are a great visual to put thief's off! Not unbeatable, but enough to make it more of a pain, and hopefully get them to look elsewhere

This seems like a great product overall, but I think a faraday pouches is ideal. Sure, you have to remember to put it in there, but it covers all angles. According to how Shmee said his key now works, if he was targeted by someone with a hidden relay device walking past him, wouldn't they be able to get a signal from the key as the key is in motion on him? This device doesn't seem to cover all angles, yet has a significantly higher price tag than a faraday pouch. I guess that is the price you pay for convenience. Its really only gonna be purchased by people with cars like the ones outside that store lol.
