@OPMDK5 жыл бұрын
Software driven solution would be the simplest solution for manufactures; 2020 Ford products starting with the Lincoln Aviator will have a pin system, for example, as an extension of their door keypad system. Federal legislation ultimately is the best driver for change and pressure placed on these governing bodies by special interest groups, typically consumer rights groups, is what is needed to make these changes become realty. So looks like it’s up to you in the UK What Car...

further to my previous input on this subject, the ghost was invented to combat the burglars who hacked into the obd ports etc... after jamming the car door locks in car parks copied the data from the obd port and put trackers on the cars to steal them at night time with a key. the Ghost IS THE PREVENTION which is exactly why i put it in my car - as well as a tracker and whilst on the subject of trackers there is yet more to worry about in the form of how the tracking companies are able to track them, you need to have radio frequency as well as a sim card in case they hide the car in a metal container or underground in a car car park etc

If you use a steering lock, I heard that all they have to do is cut the steering wheel and the thing just falls off. If they really want the vehicle all they have to do is put a gun to you and ask you to give it to them. Don’t keep anything valuable in it that might get stolen as well. If possible install your own tracking device that can’t be hacked. Have good insurance coverage and all the contents as well as all the receipts and proof of the items in the vehicle should they get stolen as well to provide to the insurance company and if this helps good luck getting them to believe you. 😆

Why not change the unlock code every few seconds? You'd have to add more memory and processing power to the fob and the car, but the cost should be on par with the cost of USB memory sticks -- not much. And yes, fellow programmers, the codes will repeat after a while. Stop typing and run the numbers. It only takes a few gigabytes of memory and a cheap CPU to provide a cycle time of months or even years. And yes, there will be clock drift between the fob and car, but that can be handled with sync and some drift tolerance code. A thornier problem is that the keyfob's battery will run out faster. I haven't a good answer for that. Maybe we'll just have to live with it.

That's what I don't get. Surely there's some sort of protocol where the car "challenges" the fob with a random number each time ? The fob could then reply back with a modified number, without actually revealing the secret password. The man-in-the-middle-attack is hardly new, I'm amazed car manufacturers have done such a poor job.

Keyless entry keys emit a coded radio signal. The car picks up the signal and if it’s the right signal, it knows you are the owner. You can devices that can pickup that signal from your keys and copies and sends out the same signal. The car thinks it’s your car keys but it’s the device. So the car unlocks and lets you start the car.
@jihadjoe5 жыл бұрын
They're not even hacking the keys, just re-broadcasting whatever it's transmitting to the car. Think of your key as constantly speaking in Greek (encrypted) to the car. The relay attack doesn't even need to know how to speak Greek (break the encryption), they just keep a walkie-talkie between key and car and the two think everything is a-ok!

there is nothing at all you can buy to remove it. it is untraceable and even an expert burglar would not be able to bypass it. it has no key pad for the code, nor a switch - you need to enter the correct code of 4 -21 button presses which you preset and save in order to start the vehicle. there is no way you can remove it unless a ghost technician removes it for you or an expert in that car manufacturer knows for sure which wires were added which makes it even harder to remove. chances are if someone attempted to take it out, they will do enough damage that no one would be able to start it anyway - the button presses are using the existing switches in the car

@laurence96185 жыл бұрын
@@BeZzeMa obviously you have absolutely NO IDEA what the ghost is. obd port and diagnistics, makita multitool , hacking and jamming is USELESS against it - it takes a trained professional for each particular vehicle to even attempt to find out which wires are non original. whilst it is also good to have a tracker, the tracker is actually an extra security measure in this instance. Prevention is better than a cure! You can not locate the canbus system so easily let alone remove it without being an expert in that field and with whichever type of vehicle. it takes 2 hours for example for the fitter who put it in to remove it - he will know where he put it and what wiring changes he made.

It’s a sorry state that something designed to improve convenience becomes another back door to theft. It’s also amazing that the tech needed to steal the codes is available to buy online! I wanted it for my new car but was persuaded by the sales exec (and the manufacturers disclaimer) to drop the option. I now have a half way house where I have to use the key to open the car and then a fake built in key built in to start it (manufacturer does not do the start/stop button). I have had keyless entry and go on my last 3 cars (paid for options) and found it to be worth every penny. None of the cars were stolen btw. However, cars are becoming increasingly connected as part of the internet of things. If something as fundamental as physical security has not been fully considered by the manufacturers, what hope do we have when it comes to remote access and autonomous control of cars that are always connected? The victims work hard for what they have and pay for it handsomely. They get the best they can afford and then pay extra for insurance, GAP cover, trackers, steering locks etc. The thieves see an easy payday with limited downside. It’s time the balance went the other way!

Keyless entry is the most useless feature in a car IMO. It is so easy to press the key for once to open and once to close the door. I have seen people with keyless entry usually unsure if the car has been properly locked. You see them fiddling with the car handle to ensure this. While I just walk away from my car and press the key fob once to close it without even looking back at the car.

Yet another report on keyless entry. I get how thieves can access cars. I get how they can start and drive away. What I don't get, and something nobody ever explains is what then? How does the theif know the car doesn't have a tracker fitted? What happens when the engine cuts out, how do you start it again? I love this idea that somehow keyless is to blame. I've never known a time in my life where cars haven't been stolen. If you're so determined to take a car, just nick the keys off someone or worse still, whack them over the head and help yourself to their wallet so you can fill up at the petrol station.

Most importantly, It is the inheritance of God's kingdom that will last forever. We trust God for everything! Amen! Call on Jesus now to confess your sins and receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

If a thief waits 10 feet outside your car all day for you to come open it If said thief has keyless replicator If said thief captures signal in use If thief returns the next day when you are not there, and magically know where you will be Then yes... Why don't you worry about more probably things than a thief waiting outside your Kia Soul for 8 hours, like a meteorite hitting you on the head.
@eazy21953 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, how naive people can be. The thief's job is to steal. He has those gadgets, don't worry about that. He doesn't need to wait 10 hours for you to come open it, the issue with this first gen keyless systems is that the fob emits that signal 24/7. He doesn't need to be there when you open the car, all he needs to do is be near your house. Hell even if he needs to be there when you open/close the car, most people will use their car very routinely, if he knows you come back home from work at 5 pm mon-fri as a lot of people do, then all he needs to do is walk past you to get the signal. I mean the start of a video said that over 100k cars are stolen each year in England, if you think that's the same probability as a meteorite hitting you on the head then you probably wouldn't be any dumber than you are now if that meteorite took your head off
