re: I never would finance a motorcycle. A few years ago I went to a HD dealer looking at a bike and asked them how much it was. They wouldn't tell me, they would only tell me how much a month it would be. When I said I would be paying cash, they still couldn't tell me the price and said I would have to come back another time when the finance manager was there. Needless to say I didn't buy a bike there.

Financing a Harley is akin to financing a house back when it was affordable (say 40-60k). Financing a Harley, and financing a practical motorcycle (i.e. not Harley, and not a Honda Goldwing if you're not well off) are two different things. Honda/Kawasaki/Suzuki/Yamaha are you best bets.

They make a lot more money on the financing. So they rather talk you into a loan that you don’t need.
@pcthayer4 ай бұрын
@@MotoDash1100 In the mid-1970's my first house was only $25K, so yes Harleys are that expensive and more. When I retired I had thought of a big Harley to do more touring, but decided not to do so. (Plus most dealers are charging well over MSRP for the Harleys which is a total turnoff for a frugal New England Yankee (not the baseball team) like myself.) And "Yes" the big Kawasakis (and at the time Yamahas) looked very appealing price wise.
@pcthayer4 ай бұрын
@@JohnnieV Exactly. Dealership financing is usally higher than your a loan from your credit union and then they stack other fees on top of that usually. (On cars they sometimes make as much on the financing as the profit from selling the car....I'm sure it is the same with motorcycles too.)

I didn't start listening to music during rides until I got a Sena in preparation for my first group ride. During those first two years, it was indeed JUST me and the ride. I needed that more when I was still getting used to riding. Now I listen to music during my rides since it's one of the ONLY times that I actually get to listen, and music always used to be such a huge part of my life. I used to be able to listen during my work day, but now I have too many meetings and interruptions. I can kind of listen when I drive, but only at a decent volume with wider variety when I'm alone (I have to keep the volume lower and skip a lot of things if my wife is with me). I find that having my music during my ride does help during the few "boring" parts of the ride. As far as "dream rides", I'd love to fly to Florida, say hi to the Brap Star crew and Forgotten Angels in Tampa, ride up to visit my folks in North Carolina, and eventually make it home in the Philly 'burbs. But before that, I yearned to ride to a charity ride that happens every summer for the Kids and Cancer Benefit in northwestern PA/southern New York State. It's something like a 6 hour ride from my house if I avoid toll roads and major highways (which is more fun for me). But even though I do know some people locally that ride, I don't really have a "riding buddy", and I'm not as mechanically inclined as I'd like, so none of these long rides is a good idea alone. For the moment, I'm just yearning for an overnight trip somewhere, as I thus far have only ridden as far as I can backtrack and make it home before dark the same day.

Here's something for the Bucket list... I'm planning on doing some of it this Christmas & NewYears (because it's summer holidays) Adventure riding around New Zealand. at least the North Island... I've only ever been all the way north to Cape Reinga to see the line between the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea once, and the weather wasn't quite what it is in January when it's at it's best. So I'll head north first, maybe ride 90mile Beach on the way there (I have an adventure bike, so why not?) then do the east coast beaches all the way down, I'll steer clear of Masterton as the idea of the road through the Gauge on a bike is crazy. Imagine a road 1/2 way up the side of the Grand Canyon... that's what it's like! Foxton Beach is a place where I have been for Sleddog racing, but never got to experience the beach in summer or even in the daytime, so I have to go across the Island for that, Lake Taupo? No I've done that enough times, I'd have to head back up the west coast until I reach Raglan, then Go straight back across to the Coromandel peninsula to finish of the Holidays at the best beaches in the entire country when everyone else has already gone back to work! It seems all the overseas visitors with ADV based YT channels keep heading straight for the South Island, and miss out the best part of New Zealand (the Coromandel) I would love for someone to showcase that rather than Arthers pass yet again like everyone else... Maybe it could be you?

If you can only afford the minium payment on the bike, it will take you forever to pay it, and you will be giving the bank thousands extra.

Hey Burch great channel! I need your expert Rebel opinion. We recently got a 2021 Rebel 500 with around 1500 miles on it and it rides great except we get a lot of excessive vibrations from the engine at higher RPM's. It has a cheap aftermarket crash cage on it that I am suspecting is amplifying the engine vibrations. Have you ever experienced this or have heard of this issue? I am thinking of taking off the crash cage to see if that makes a difference or not. Other than that the bike is very fun and enjoyable :)

Still didn't completely finish yet (was at work, just got off), but about the headphones thing, seeing it in comments figured I'd throw my opinion out there. Well, in short, without noise in my ears I just get anxious and need audio stimulus to focus and go mind-numb on anything but what I'm doing (aka less easily distracted by random cute dogs in cars or whatever non-threat). But uh yeah... I need noise in my ears to focus, whether it's a book that I know cover to cover or whether it's Octave by Delph (no vocals), Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics (heavy on vocals), or Control by VNV Nation (medium-amount of vocals, it's mainly techno) that shit is blasting and I just keep it on loop so I don't have to skip around to find the right song for the mood/traffic flow. Super short: noise in my ears is a must. If it's not music playlist than I'm listening to Harry Potter series on audible (whenever I stop mid-series I go back to Book 1, probs listened to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone like 30 times).

if you sold three out of your 9 bikes, you can definitely afford another 1100.

What would I need another 1100 for though?? If I sold 3 bikes it would be to get an FTR 😬🤘🏻

Heya burch, don't know if you remember me (the man from France that want a rebel) Well let's say a used one is almost 7 grand here, like wtf are in people's brain. Sadly I can't afford it, and since they don't sell the 300 here in Europe, and I need a bike (I don't drive cars even tho I have the permit) The rebel plan is on hold 😢

Can you not write these bikes off since you use them in videos? Or do they have to be strictly only for content?

Buying in cash to use your credit card is the worst idea ever. Credit cards (apr ) is way higher Than a loan at 3.5 to 5.0 interest rate

Motorcycles aren’t a hobby. Motorcycles are a fun method of transportation. I can’t stand riding around cities and enjoy the twisty back roads or long highway stretches across trips. Would never get an e-bike especially if it means someone wants to stop me and talk to me about it every couple minutes.

“If you want to meet people, get an E Bike” Me, an introvert: makes mental note never to buy an E Bike. Lol
@packgrog4 ай бұрын
As a fellow introvert, it's a mixed bag. I have a 2003 Sportster, and after 2 group rides, I've found that I largely prefer riding alone. But I've also found that on occasion if I've stopped somewhere, people will start talking to me about my bike (or occasionally my Brake Free helmet light). Even though my Sporty is filthy and a little rusty, people with nicer bikes still compliment it. It's kind of fun... up to a point. If it's a brief "hey, cool bike!" and "hey, yours too!", it's kind of nice. If it winds up being 10+ minutes of someone talking AT me when I'm itching to hop back on and go, then it gets a little intrusive (though it can be amusing as well if not too invasive).

@@packgrog Honestly, every biker I've run into has been cool and easy to talk to. It's the non-bikers that are the occasional incredibly awkward exchange.
