One comment. I work in a thrift shop where I do the sorting. Please, please, if the clothes are dirty, torn, or worn out, please throw them away at your house. Don't donate them. It's really gross to get dirty underwear, clothes covered in animal hair, etc. You can trash it or burn it yourself. We don't have any more time to wash it than you do. Thanks for your consideration😊

Even better donate them to companies that sanitize and reuse your dirty stuff! Feels so good to ship it off!

I used to work at Goodwill. We got in boxes that contained dead mice, garbage, filthy clothes, smelly shoes, and all kinds of nasty stuff. Landlords also tend to just box it up and dump it on Goodwill instead of renting a dumpster when they do an apartment clean outs. Why do people do this? If you wouldn’t give the stuff to one of your friends or relatives because you’d be embarrassed, please don’t donate it.

Ouch! This one really hit Home for me. No matter how far behind I get, I feel like I need to wash and recycle every little thing. The environmentalist in me cringes when I throw a recyclable container in the garbage. I feel guilty doing it, but you are totally right. When I’m drowning, I don’t need to worry about my technique. I need to keep this in mind from now on. I can do it correctly when I’ve gotten things back under control.

I've been feeling run down for the last month of so and have let a few things go. I have a load of laundry in and the robot vac going. Dishes are done, garbage cans emptied, and one washed and drying. Will be done cleaning and changing over the kitty litter boxes and area by the time this video ends. Then it's a quick clean of the toilet, vanity, and mirror and that's it for tonight. I already feel so much better. Thanks, Cass!

I learned years ago that you need to do dishes, clutter, and laundry before cleaning closets, cupboards, and drawers (OH MY!). Meals may be frozen dinners, crockpot meals, or take out. This is essential to focus on decluttering. I have a room for donations ready to go to Good Will. I love to hand sew, so mending the torn clothes will be done on my day off while I'm binge-watching TV. Then, they are clean and mended ready to donate or put back in my closet. If you can declutter this way, you'll probably be done in 6 to 12 weeks. Projects like your photo albums, scrapbooks, et cetera don't get done now. Set aside those things for 6 months from now. When your house is 90% decluttered, that's when the projects get done.

Good to hear you felt better. Its easy to keep things clear if you have a home for those things. Takes a while but worth it. Then you don't mind as much being the only one who's putting things away cuz it's easy. After a while of watching you put stuff away, he'll just do it on his own. Mine did, took a long time, but he likes a clear clean house now too.

You are so right about not enough hours in the day. There are 8 hrs for sleep, 8 hrs for work, and 8 hours for everything else (hygiene, cooking, cleaning, laundry, ,shopping, household finance and other house business, home improvement and repairs, yard work). There are two big imbalances: On the home-front: We need exercise, leisure, entertainment, a nap (important!) and downtime (we need white space!) On the work-front: When I first quit my job to work for myself I kept feeling like something was wrong. I felt like I was on vacation because I only worked so many hours and the rest of the time was mine! I was used to working 12 hours a day. I was used to not having control of my time and schedule. That's the problem (at least in the USA). There is no more 8 hour work day. There is no more 40 hour work week. Employers deny vacation and time off for being sick or anything else. Then add to that commute time. That is usually 1-2 hours each way every day. I was used to being worked into the ground. That leaves no time to take care of basic needs much less take care of yourself, family, home, or have a life.

Thank you for keeping it real!! Let me reiterate. It is OK to throw things away!! Newsflash, goodwill throws out half their donations anyways. Your junk might actually be just that...junk lol. I remember when my parents came to live with us while they were moving to our town. I let them have my daughter's room during ther transition. It took me literally 5 minutes to clear her room/closet because there was not much in there. Unfortunately that is no longer the case so I'm working on getting back to that point. My tip? Just imagine you had to move. Make it easier on yourself and get ride of trunk fulls at a time to make moving easier. Even if you have no plans to move right now, you never know what the future holds. Worst case scenario, you never move but you feel amazing and love your space. ❤

I'm feeling better already......we don't have dishes anywhere apart from the sink. Make it easy for yourself: train your family to only eat at the kitchen table. After a meal, everyone scrapes off food bits into the bin and place the plate in the sink. My teenager knows to put his dirty clothes straight into the laundry hamper in the laundry. The only chore l hate doing is vacuuming.

But other things are falling behind like dusting and organization. I’m trying hard to get a clean clutter free home and I’m determined to get there before the end of this year. Thank God for these people in charge of trashes who are so nice and with whom I have no anxiety as I know them.

Because my house is organized, I can focus on taking unwanted items to donation centers or recycling them. But you're absolutely right - your sanity and your family's well-being are most important. Everyone should consider your advice about house maintenance. It's key to remember our priorities: first, ourselves and our pets; second, stuff.
