At 65 and a grandma, I make non-traditional wedding dresses. Ive made about a dozen and sell them in a booth. Like you i can't get enough of it. I make everything but all white or long and white. Around here there are plenty of galas and new years eve parties for those type of dresses. Chopping off a train is pure excitement i hear in your voice. My mom made my first communion dress out of her train. I wish you health, wealth, and happiness for your new life. 💍

Big recommendations on a tie back for the dress - helps ensure it will fit, no matter what your body is up to, and you can eat all your tasty wedding food. Also, big ups to bustles to have your train and dancing dress too!

I have to STRESS, consider using tie for the dress, not zipping. My dress was tied and it was the best decision ever. You never know how your body changes. I kept my dress, we actually had a kinda wedding renewal two years later. Never would I have ever still fit in a zipped dress, but we could cheat me in my old dress. I gained a lot of weight though, so 😂 Congratulations, enjoy the fiancée time, it will go away way too fast!

CONGRATS CARLY! This is such good news! I made my own wedding dress, and I liked how it turned in the end, but I did feel a bit of pressure to get it perfect. My advice to you would be to have fun and not obsess about making THE PERFECT DRESS, because in a way it will never be, since not all the amazing ideas can make it into one dress. About the train/t-length dilemma, you could always make the entire dress t-length, and on top add either an overskirt with the train or a removable train, kind of like a cape you can remove for the reception. I personally prefer the same dress for both events, but it can be easily modified to make it more comfortable to dance and jump around in the reception. CONGRATS AGAIN! So looking forward to this series!

I am less than 2 minutes in and the quote "I think weddings are kind of weird, but marriages are cool and wedding dresses are REALLY COOL" is the best sum-up of the entire wedding process ever LMAO. Totally feel you on the engagement announcement btw. I had to work through a lot of wedding-related "ick" due to the traditionalist and tradwife-y overtones that were associated with it. (e.g. "Finally A Bride", "From Miss to Mrs" ... not the thing for me...)

Highly recommend Freida Leopold's videos! She makes some BEAUTIFUL gowns with very well-tailored bodices (and lots of historical inspiration), and all of her videos are very methodical and detailed. Plus, her most recent two go into making & covering a corset for a strapless dress, which might help give inspiration.

GOOD THINKING
@BridgetBaker-e5z2 ай бұрын
Congratulations! I have a few suggestions to look to both for design and construction ideas. For general fitted bodice to flared, full skirt, Dior's New Look silhouette of the late 40's into the 50's should provide good information on structuring the bodice in such a way to give a sleek but supportive, fitted bodice with a distinct silhouette, and many of these evening gown versions in particular are strapless, making it very easy to either keep strapless or modify with a simple, swoopy off the shoulder sleeve. For the more floral inspiration, in that same time period Dior made the Junon and Venus dresses that has these gorgeous embellished petals to the skirt - architectural, with some versions having a swooping high-low overskirt of petals and others being a full cascade. Additionally, the slightly-multitonal-but-primarily-white mention made me think of a designer I saw while looking for inspiration for my own wedding dress, an Etsy artist with a shop called Wardrobe by Dulcinea. She makes these beautiful ombre layered tulle skirts that can be subtle or bold and are just gorgeous - the way she plays with color is just lovely. Additionally, something like that would add a lot of dimension without much time, effort or money, which given the short time frame might be useful! Again, congratulations, and I can't wait to see all the lovely wedding content coming up!

Congratulations! 18 years ago when I got married I hadn't sewn anything since I was a college freshman. I don't feel confident enough now that I would try something so special. I will be eager to see how it turns out. I would have loved to have had a train, but my wedding was outdoors and my Mom and I somewhat reluctantly agreed that a train wasn't practical. When I found my dress I forgot all about the train. Mine was an off the shoulder, sweetheart neckline ball gown style. The bodice had lots of embroidery and sequins, and it had a tulle over skirt. I like your ideas about tea length in front and a train, and a long veil.

Congratulations. I am so happy for you! I love your vision, I love how you verbalize your vision so clearly even though you’re saying it’s not clear. You really do know what you want and you’re gonna make it happen. Also. I do feel like I have some insight I would like to share. This is from the dress you made where you patchworked the beautiful ombré fabric in pink and yellow and then you wrote a word across the front in black. Remember when you cut it slightly too short? that’s tea length and I don’t think you should go tea length for your wedding dress. I am not against tea length wedding dresses. I just felt like that length on that dress you made was a mistake. So keep that in mind as you’re deciding on the length of your dress. I know it’s gonna be amazing. I know you are an amazing creator and so inspiring. The skirt that I made from your KZbin tutorial is my favorite thing I’ve ever made 😊. Good luck, Carly. I can’t wait to see you process unfold.
