TheObsidianX Or, even better, they actually ARE gods who were banished from the immortal community for a human lifetime for something they did (likely a prank or something they seem like those kind of guys). They had their memories wiped for the amount of time their banishment was and had most of their immortal power stripped away as well so that it wouldn’t return unless they remembered they were gods. The whole volcano thing was just a result of them being worshipped and having a slight boost of immortal power, despite them not remembering their true nature at the time.

El Dorado is a very under rated movie :) my only major complaint from it is the complete lack of basic research of their folklore, if they stopped human sacrifices, they believed the sun would go out because the sun god is weak and needs to be fed the sacrifices. This is why Ixtab exists, suicide wasn’t viewed the same as we do, and they were placed on the same insta-paradise as warriors who die defending their home and women who die during childbirth. They viewed all 3 as giving up your life for someone else.
