I've long maintained that the best "let's play" channels are the ones where no personality is being presented and it's just people being themselves and also ideally it's a duo/ group who can bounce jokes off each other. Honestly, I believe it's a huge part of the success of channels like Super Mega and Game Grumps. LGIO prob would have blown up given a little more time even if Anthony hadn't left.

@@TropnevadNitsujyou’re so right. hearing someone genuinely reacting to a game, while you’re watching and thus reacting at the same time, is what makes let’s play videos fun. it’s like hanging out with friends and i love it. i’ve watched the anthony videos so many times i know parts of them by heart, and even after years of rewatching idk how many times, they still make me laugh. in josh’s older solo videos it still worked because he genuinely surprised himself and made himself laugh, and i’ve watched those many times too. some of the videos from the last couple years are still like that but a lot of them are starting to sound rehearsed. they’re also geared toward a younger audience. i don’t want to criticize him for it because he now makes his living creating content in a very specific niche, and it must be draining, but “lower effort” content will always be superior in my book. i totally respect that things had to change so they could pursue the things they wanted in life, but i like to think that in a parallel universe somewhere josh and anthony are still happily making this kind of content together :)

But none of that mattered because the REAL problem wasn't that I was getting attention, it was that I was confident enough to accept attention and enjoy myself independently of him, without seeking his approval.
