Like, imagine for a second, dark room as a sorta three pronged floor, with the door to mega satan, and a few puzzle rooms placed in that section, one section that slowly builds with difficulty till you reach the lamb, then one prong for the forgotten room

@@luthenwilliams5338 They keep the psions and abyss themes they introduced in Sheol and Depths, except they're the central theme now instead of an offshoot. This helps make the dark room feel different compared to the Chest, which is the designated "smorgasbord" floor. Also the room designs use grids (rocks/pits), unlike vanilla which is just empty rooms with enemies (same with the Chest)

Fiend Folio just expands on themes and ideas present more than the base game does, and then some, adding a few of it's own. For example, the Cellar still has spiders, and new spider enemies, but it also has subthemes now. Bees now infest some rooms just as the spiders have, their nests poking through the walls. Additionally, you'll run into some ghosts as well, most of which possess a few gapers to interesting effects. But even with that, it never feels like the focus on spiders is lost, as many varieties of both the webbers and the webbed up still feel like the focus. Another example, the Caves. It never really had a theme of its own, just expanding on enemies from the previous chapters. But Fiend Folio gave it a few of its own, giving it a focus on the batty on one hand, and the fungal on the other. And even mixing it up with the primordial caves, theming itself after fossils and ancient humans, creating fascinating player mimics by using key mechanics. And another, the Dank Depths, evidently the devs' favorite. While the tar was there, it wasn't really a focus in the enemy design until Repentance kicked around, and Folio just came up with even more dank foes. But there's some fun use of connected ideas. Tar is often associated with Pollution, so the place is full of broken down industrial sections and trash heaps of discarded rubbish. It's incredibly charming, and delightfully designed, and it's always fun to see what ideas each enemy or boss or area or even just each _room_ will come up with next.

When you gaze into the abyss for too long, eventually… it will stare back. One’s oblivion is chosen the moment all starts, and some have a cruel fate thrust upon them. A long death, delirium, but then… peaceful nothingness. It happens to all, unavoidable, undefeatable. Some search for it, some are scared of it. It finds all the same way. Sorry, this track makes me feel really philosophical.

This right here feels like existential dread. Isaac reaches the bottom layer of his fantasy: a dark room where memories come to die, full of monsters. And this parallels really well where he is now: stuck inside a dark room, dying.

*E T H E R E A L* For some reason my brain just makes this track oppose mudeth's "The Thief" I DONT KNOW WHY. well probably I know why: - starts and ends with damn good melody - for entire duration it's being soothing and epic simultaneously - SECOND HALF IS FUCKING EPIC (too bad it will not be in-game if there is no way to make layer work)

Hi love this piece but since i know you'll want to make it into the mod eventually here's a little heads up The layer might get unused in-game. Dark room is one of very few floor tracks(the only floor track i think) that don't have layer in vanilla ost. Thus there is no file to replace like all other tracks. Adding layer to dark room would require some modding black magic, so unless you know how, the layer won't be in game.
