As a teenager in the 80's, I used to play racquetball on a challenge court. We'd smoke 20somethings. In comes this retiree with a dunlop over his corduroy brown shorts that were too small 10 years prior. It looked like an easy win. Oh... I scored a single point on him. That's it. He had us running around like cats on a laser-pointer... just ragged. I've never underestimated anyone ever after that brutal beating. Thank you, Mr. Corduroy for that slice of humble pie.

The levels are amazing when you start playing racquetball. I had a friend who I was about equal to, then she asked me to play her boyfriend, and he did what you described, had me running around while he just stood in the same spot. Then my friend told me her brother does that to her boyfriend! I couldn't even imagine someone on that level.

You should have asked him who he was, I bet he was famous at one time, Kind of reminds me of this one time in high school after football practice, a few of us were sitting on the football field watching the cheerleaders practice. Well, this guy, this young guy, like YOUNG guy, but he was huge, like 6'6", but he looked so young, like he was in high school, but he was running laps, I just kept watching him like man, this dude is young, so on one of his laps I yell out to him, "Do you play football?" He runs a lap, and as he passes me says "Yep" Runs another lap, I yell out to him, "Which high school?" Runs a lap, passes me and says, "San Diego" I'm in San Jose, I was like wth? He runs another lap, passes me and says, "Chargers" So now I'm REALLY like, WTH? He runs another lap, I ask him what his name is, he says, "White, Bob" Then he hops the fence and walks to a house across the street. I've looked up that name and I've never been able to find it, but this was like 1985, 1986, and to this day I haven't been able to find that name, but man, that's an experience I still haven't forgotten. Almost reminds me of another time when I was working at an amusement park in 1989, this one kind of makes me feel bad, but this dude had an attitude like, "DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?" But this big black guy gets on the ride, he's got full leg braces on both legs, he's walking with a limp, and he's like 6'4" 240, just built, plus he looks older, he's got gray hair, so I load him into the car, I was like, to my co-workers, "I wonder who that guy was" They didn't even know what I was talking about, so I'm 20 years old trying to guess who this guy might be. I just happen to be the one who unloads him, now keep in mind, I'm born and raised Cali, I had a couple teams in the 70's, mainly the Steelers, but also the Raiders, I was more of a fan of the players, like I'd hear a name and that was my guy. So I ask him if he ever played football, and he says yes, I ask who, he says "the Minnesota Vikings" I was like, "Oh" Keep in mind, that's not even close to any of my teams, so i ask him what his name was, he tells me, which i forgot what it was, but as he's getting off he can tell I have absolutely no clue who he is, so he steps off kind of angrily, says his name, and than says, "You know, "The Purple People Eaters" Even then, I had zero clue until the advent of the internet a decade later, and he just walks off, to this day I've tried to pick him out but I just can't.

Chess at this level is kinda funny, its more than the simple discovered check or sacrificial piece to open up the line of attack, playing so many more potential moves ahead and figuring out attacks with high probability defense responses where the attacks work because of those moves and there's not much else you can do to defend at that point...the trap was already sprung 3 or 4 or 5 moves ago, fun to watch the game!

Great sacrifice Anna. Hard to see in a blitz game, but after Kf7, Carlini could have played Bb4+, Kf1 and after the same sequence Carlini's position would be very hard to defend, but it seems that he could have been able to hold it.

@Hector Teran , it would be impossible for his King to escape from being checked as the Queen cleans his pieces before eventually checkmate. According to Stockfish she is already +20 and the best 29 moves later is checkmate. Even if she does not do best moves, once the rook comes in about 20 moves after the bishop, it would be hard to blunder her Queen, Bishop and Rook as the board is open and basically at the endgame.

@@duroprem By "only move" I didn't mean that there wasn't any ohter legal move, but that all the alternatives were obviously worse. In that position the King can't even play Kxe5 because of the nasty f4+! So we would have Kxf4 (forced) Rf1+ and if Ke3 then Rf3# and if Ke5 then Bc7+ Bd6 (forced) Bxd6# Since I'm here, I'd like to add something. I haven't played in decades so I'm a bit rusty. I would appreciate a little help with the end. Carlini's only move was King to E7, correct? If so, would Anna's next move have been Bishop to F5?
@tonyatkinson4496 Жыл бұрын
Anna, please explain how you would achieve mate in this situation?
@dalemcdowell2684 Жыл бұрын
It's not mate, but she'll win the knight and the queen with her dark-square bishop and chase the king to the middle of the board after Qb6
@RexxSchneider Жыл бұрын
I don't think there's a forced mate imminent, but after ... K - e7 B - g5+ N - f6 B x N+ K - e8 B x Q If ... K x B then Q - f6+ wins the rook. Black's position is decimated. White can essentially mop up the remaining pieces at leisure. Instead of ... K - e8, he can play K - e6, but then B x Q+ and it's just as hopeless.
@jonnes__4657 Жыл бұрын
@@RexxSchneider Only K e6 is possible, because of the Q at g6. .
@RexxSchneider Жыл бұрын
@@jonnes__4657 Thank you. You're quite right; I still had my analysis of Q x N in my head. I should have written: ... K - e7 B - g5+ N - f6 B x N+ K - d7 B x Q If ... K x B then Q - f6+ wins the rook. etc.

The comment, “You saw all this?” after you checkmated him shows the difference between yourself and players like him and definitely me. Respect to you Anna Cramling.

This camera angle is so much better than most. I have trouble seeing the board with the electronic version on the screen. I loved how I could see what you were doing even when he couldn’t.
