Goals drive you forward but at one point you should realize the carrot on the stick is not made to be obtained, so you either stop chasing after it or you try to see if there's something meaningful in the chase itself, beyond the carrot. Or you try your hardest to get it, and you do get it, but idk you'd probably realize it wasn't worth it when you get there. This is of course in the context of unreasonable goals, reasonable goals can very much be achieved even if they're difficult so you should still stick with them, this is not an excuse to roll over and do nothing whatsoever.

PLEASE, you, and EVERYONE, if you haven't already, embrace the One True Only God YHWH Jehovah, Only One Jesus Christ His Only Begotten Son and Lord and Savior of our souls and the Only One Holy Spirit. God is good. God is love. Jesus is Lord! Jesus IS coming. Your soul depends on it! I have seen God act in my life. He saved my soul, changed my heart, changed my mind, helped people through me, took care of people in my life, people I hurt before I found God. God is the only reason I was able to reconcile with my dad before he died. God worked through Jesus Christ to save our souls. Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and that God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved. Be baptized in The Holy Spirit, and if He wills, water as well. Repent of your sins, accept God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit into your heart, that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ, that all who believe on Him shall not perish but have eternal life. Jesus Christ is The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father Jehovah God but through Him. Not long after I got saved I prayed to God for help understanding the Holy Bible, and that same day someone knocked on my door asking me if I wanted to understand the Bible. I have had times where I was thinking about Holy Bible quotes and have stumbled across them flipping through The Holy Bible at random the same/next day. God is here for you if you let Him guide you. The Holy Bible says, "love thy enemy", "turn the other cheek", "If your enemy is hungry, feed him", "if he is thirsty, give him a drink", "pray for those who persecute you", "do not repay evil for evil". LORD willing, all humans may commit sin of almost every kind (gay, straight), and that's wrong, and all humans sin, as God tells us through the The Holy Bible, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." The Holy Bible also says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.", "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." and, “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

Since retiring three years ago, I’ve noticed how much my goals have changed, which I think is something most retirees can relate to. In our younger years, we chase success and experiences, but once we reach a certain stage, it’s financial security and health that really take over. Looking back, I don’t regret the fast-paced years of work and life, but I see now how critical it is to build a solid foundation when you're employable. Without that, retirement could easily become a struggle, especially with inflation making things even tighter these days. Moving out of the city to stretch my savings has been a big part of this shift, and it’s made me realize how important it is to work smart when you're younger because once you reach this stage, your needs and priorities will look very different.

Best analogy I can think of is a man restoring a classic car from dereliction to brand new condition. When it is done, the journey is over. It was only ever about the journey, saving the car, making new friends to help, the satisfaction of replacing worn and rusting parts with new. Learning new skills. That first drive when restored, the admiration of other enthusiasts. Then what happens. The man can only admire his work for so long, there is nothing more to do, and the car is sold. What does he do?...he buys another wreck, and so the journey begins again, different this time, because he has learned so much on the previous journey. All of life is like this. Happiness is short lived. So is contentedness. It is meant to be so. It is the only way the soul can grow.

To the extent that somebody is enjoying the process of self improvement then there is nothing wrong. Unfortunately, many people seek forms of "self improvement" that are in fact destructive, and the means by which they see to achieve their goals are also destructive. Many western-oriented goals are destructive, if not to oneself than at least to the environment and future generations. The goal of doing something just to make somebody else jealous, for example, is a terrible goal.

However, the truth is, I ended up feeling an emptiness because I no longer had a big goal to work towards. I then bought a second house and felt exactly the same. It was only a few years later that I realized the power of NOW is the most important thing of all. It was in that conscious moment that I understood how valuable the present is-the ability to feel the freedom of doing what I truly wanted and being aware of everything in each moment. Today, as I approach 40, I have finally come to this realization, though it took me 15 years to do so. Make the most of your time now. Set goals, yes, but live in the present, and you will surely find happiness.

In my experience, I realize that there is no single point you can reach that guarantees ultimate happiness forever. Life is full of ups and downs; it always depends on the circumstances you are facing, and you have to learn how to deal with those situations. Although "life is defined as the series of choices you make," even if you do your best, you never know what comes next. Imagine you have your dream job and dream partner, you have the best routine, and then, suddenly, you get into an accident, or a close one passes away. You have to learn how to deal with the circumstances and do your best.

I don’t think I’m that great but I have played with certain musicians and they were pretty impressed at my originality because most of the stuff I play is my own creativity. I met a cobbler then other day , hes 84 yesrs old and looks exactly ljke Albert Einstein. He had a dobro and a 1971 Ovation hanging in his shop. I asked about them and he told me the story behind them and after some wonderful stories he asked me if I wanted to try the ovation because he cant play it any longer but loves how it sounds. His fingers hurt and he shakes too bad to play it so he slides on the dobro. So I played him a couple of my favorite original tunes after tweaking the tuning into shape. He bad the biggest grin and said “I don’t think this guitar had ever been played so beautifully in its entire life.” I laughed it off and then asked him if he knew this one and I played ELP’s “From the beginning” and he was like “Oh yeah I know this song.” I stopped playing and said “Thjs is where I stop unless you have a Hammond B-3 organ warmed up and ready.” Super cool guy….he used to play in a traveling band for a major hotel chain. Can’t wait to pick up my leather jacket from him because I’m gonna surprise him with my own custom Ovation.

Maybe that’s why people with ADHD, myself included, can sometimes struggle with feelings of depression. We often get distracted quickly and lose interest in things we were once super excited about, always chasing that next source of dopamine. It can be really hard to stick with one thing long enough to fully invest time and effort into it. The idea that happiness comes from having goals and working towards them makes sense, but for those of us with ADHD, staying focused on a long-term goal can feel almost impossible at times. This constant cycle of wanting to commit but being unable to maintain that focus can be frustrating and disheartening.

Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. And terrorists (puppets of the Antichrist) who misinterpret verses, out of ignorance and political motivations, and take them out of historical context (just like radical atheists do by the way) don't help either. Thank you very much for your time. First of all, if you have any questions regarding Islam and yourself, just open the Quran randomly, and you will find the answer in front of you, like a miracle and a sign from God. Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them). Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI). Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI). Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement. It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them. (19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).. God said : Say, “We believe in Allah, and in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus, and in what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not differentiate between any of them. And to Him, we surrender.” (2:136 / Translated by Community) Salam (Peace) -----

Looking at your thoughts, your beliefs, your emotions. And meditating in the now. The present now. We are human beings not human doings. If you shift your focus to feeling content by looking inward then you can learn to be anywhere and feel peace or joy. You can love to just sit still because you feel oneness. Accomplishing does bring dopamine increases, but it's very future focus.

I can understand why you are feeling burnt out at 44; this happened to my husband. I think we put so much pressure on ourselves that we burn out. Focus on the things you love and build your life around them. Try to gradually cut back. I don't know your circumstances, but you need to be honest with yourself and set yourself on a path that's right for you. Even just taking a timeout gives you time to work things out and focus on the rest of your life. You mustn't try to push past it. You'll end up having a breakdown. Please take some time for yourself, whether it's a weekend, it doesn't matter. Most importantly, talk to your partner or your family about how you're feeling. You're a team and you work together.

I agree for the most part but I have realized that some people are a lot better at contentment. Achievers are addicts if you try to derive happiness from the goal posts. I believe achievements can generate tremendous meaning but happiness and contentment comes from loving yourself and enjoying the now. Some achievers are depressed but somehow my old mother who had a hard life and only reads and makes dinner is the happiest person I know.
@mzefic3 ай бұрын
"Achievers are addicts". The exact reason why this is the case is because achievers are fundamentally built different and their state of mind and world perception is on an entirely different level. I would give myself the freedom to label this phenomenon as pathological narcissistic disorder (NPD). The narcissist is fundamentally unable to genuinely experience the emotions of joy, content, happiness, etc. There is only the chase of power and control and fueling on other people's emotions. This manifests on many different levels from the most basic essential to the most sophisticated complex tasks. When you realize this, you will realize that these types of people do not function as the rest.

I think there is a big societal illusion that we have to "be happy", otherwise we failed in life. We're perpetually taught that "happiness" is the ultimate goal. But I think happiness is only a short-lived thing of a moment. A long-term and much more realistic and permanent goal is contentment that arises from life circumstances that give us a feeling of safety and calm. This can be through a more or less stable job, a loving partner, or financial independence, etc. Modesty and simplicity are also keys to contentment; the less you need, the less you miss.

I think that today's times strongly encourage living for oneself and realizing one's own plans. Of course, one's own happiness is the most important, even at the expense of the happiness of others. I am afraid, however, that the purpose of our lives is not self-fulfillment but cooperation with others, acceptance of what we have no influence on, the ability to give up one's own egoism. I think that life is a dry wine not a happy meal.

instead of continuing to be in the rat race of money-making, simply expand your horizon to include incredible sports/passions that don't centre on making money in a f@ck1ng room, and typically for people who couldn't care less about you. Also, once you've become financially free, interests don't need to cost much, e.g. once you've got the kit, surfing, SUP surfing, Wingfoiling, mountainbiking become really quite cheap, and you can build a social life around them. If you can't think of what to do with yourself when you're financially free, and don't have to work much, if at all, then you've been savagely institutionised by education/society, and need to get someone/some organisation to re-programme your mind ASAP, because life is too short, and dying only financially rich (basically, wasting your life) is one of the dumbest things ever that you can do, and you'll regret it. Even before you get financially better off, have a look around, outside your streamlined life, now, before you get any older, there are things out there for every kind of person, many engage all the senses and can be mind-blowing. I'm not financially free, but have a plan, and keep refining it, you can start that now too, good luck!
