I'm retired after having spent a half century in the machinist trade and I have to say, for a home shop project this is an excellent example of the craft. No cheating with computers - all conventional machining. I am especially impressed with the design work of this project. Long ago when I was starting out in the trade I heard something I have never forgotten: " _The man who works with his hands is a laborer, the man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman, but the man who works with his hands, his brain and his heart ..... is an artist_ ." This young man is obviously an artist.

In your lifetime maybe, but when I was a youngster, I met a pensioner who had been an instrumentmaker. He made working miniature engines from scratch in the 1970's. I think his name was Willem van de Hoek (a Dutchman), but I can't find anything on him on the internet. He has probably died a long time ago, as I'm almost a pensioner now. Last time I've seen him was in 1988, when I attended the 75th birthday celebrations of the Dutch Airforce. He was there with his engines, demonstrating them to the public. As I remember, he had a V12, a 5 cilinder radial and one radial with a lot of stacked cylinders, but I don't remember how many, a 4 cyl boxer, a V8 and some others I can't recall the type of. Funny thing always was that when a crowd drew near and got too close to his liking, he reversed the pitch of the prop (they were adjustable pitch by design) and 'floored it' 😂. As most of the engines ran on methanol and caster oil, people were very eager to step back. I remember being intrigued by the V12, as you could see all of the valves move when the engine was running. I hope his engines too have been preserved somewhere.
