I started with hip and muscle pain one day when I was 11 years old and the next day I just couldn't walk as I was having awful muscle spasms and severe pain. It took over 3 years to be finally diagnosed with AS after having lots of xrays, mri, blood tests, hip biopsy. I was told at 15 from a blood test that I had the specific gene for AS. The pain spread to my SI joints, lower back, upper back shoulders and neck over the years. I've also been diagnosed with crohns disease, osteoarthritis of both hips, TMDJ, dry eyes, endometriosis, fibromyalgia to name a few over the years. I've had 37 years of chronic pain which my brain now needs to unlearn. I got Covid in March and pneumonia in May and had an awful flare up of AS/Osteoarthritis as I had to come off my arthritis injections due to the infections. I've had horrific muscle spasms in particular it's affecting my right leg where it first started when I was 11 years old. I've tried different medication over the last 6 months without much success and had an ultrasound guided steriod injection on Tuesday and the pain has amplified 10 fold and is now affecting my knee. I can't bend down or lift my right leg without having really painful muscle spasms. I've been practically housebound for 6 months now I used to be very active gym, pilates, worked even though I was in constant pain but it was manageable. I'm just starting to learn about TMS. I have a strong faith in Jesus and recently I asked everyone to pray for me(I emailed all the Christian churches in the area for healing prayers) a few days later I learnt about Dr Sarno, Steve Ozanich and then was sent a link to your channel Jen yesterday. Thanks Jen and Rob for giving me hope I can heal. ❤️

50:52 He was talking about me :) I had ankylosing spondylitis, and I had been experiencing pain for more than 20 years.Numerous X-rays, blood tests, MRI scans, and countless doctors I visited all unequivocally stated that I have ankylosing spondylitis. Additionally, I also test positive for the HLA-B27 gene. I was a client of Rob, and he tremendously helped me in this matter. Ankylosing spondylitis is definitely TMS. I currently have no pain, and I can walk for miles comfortably. Contrary to what the doctors said, I have personally experienced that ankylosing spondylitis is a mind-body issue. Rob, thank you very much. You gave me my life back :)

What is TMS, please?
@dennismetzler1876 Жыл бұрын
That was really good. So inspiring to hear about someone recover from so many symptoms--plus he has a lot of great insights. I still can only give partial assent to the notion that the pain and symptoms of TMS are there as a distraction.
@spiritmindbody... Жыл бұрын
A distraction and paradoxically a symbolic message from the unconscious to be decoded. Seeing past the distraction aspect to decode the meaning behind the symbol can be helpful. There's more on this in the book, I didn't really get into it in the interview. This is Rob btw.

Very helpful interview. One thing that left sort of loose ends for me was how he said that it was enough for him to write in his journal that he was angry, etc. but that he did not feel the need to process the anger in any way. Is it your belief that it's just enough to write out one's feeling, by just naming it? It seems to me that there needs to be some more work done to actually release the anger.
@ThoughtByThoughtHealing10 ай бұрын
Yes. There are different opinions on this. For me, and for my clients, I include a part of writing that calls for action of some sort, whether it is a life change, forgiveness or a change in thinking/ belief. (It’s most often in this third category) Personally, it is not quite enough for me to just express my anger.
@spiritmindbody...10 ай бұрын
Rob here. There were some feelings early on but vast majority of the time after that it was just expression with little or no feeling (partly due to the repetition of the same emotions, events etc, after a while they tend to lose some of their power). From what I have observed emotional expression often precipitates actual feeling. The main thing is, does it improve symptoms or not? For me the answer was yes.
@spiritmindbody...10 ай бұрын
@@ThoughtByThoughtHealing I would kind of agree with you Jen that feeling the emotions is preferable to merely expressing them (if possible) and the early breakthrough expressions with actual feeling were far more important to my recovery than all the months and months of repetition that came after (though this also worked, at the cost of becoming overly dependent on writing). It was in the constant repetition that the placebo-nocebo effects became an issue for me.

Okay so I’m getting hung up on the fact that some people in the Bible never healed. I was deeply entrenched in new age practices and a lot of this information reminds me of the law of attraction. I have avoided anything that reminds me of it because I’m so worried and afraid to go back in that direction. So I’m stuck. Which is not a good place to be. How do we know God wants us to heal? He didn’t heal Paul. Why, after over ten years of chronic symptoms, would he heal me? And if I’m focused on my own healing am I making it an idol? How can I seek God first and be healthy? So confused. Don’t want to be led astray.
@ThoughtByThoughtHealing Жыл бұрын
I can’t answer for ppl in the Bible (those that didn’t heal) because I don’t know if their pain was Mind Body or structural. - But if your pain is MB then turning down fear turns down hyper vigilance which will turn down pain. And the Bible/ God is clear on how toxic fear is. This type of healing isn’t a miracle but it is letting God into our emotions, thoughts & beliefs that dysregulate our nervous systems. And it’s not always comfortable work. It can even feel scary to let Jesus into those spaces at times.

We are all one, god is everywhere and everything and in you and not in you. It’s all the same. “You cannot believe in God until you believe in yourself.” - Swami Vivekananda.
@CarrieLeighSandoval Жыл бұрын
Thank you Jen for the reply. And for the important distinction. I have so many layers of trauma that it’s difficult to think clearly. I’m also autistic and sometimes the Bible is incredibly difficult for me to grasp. I love the idea of letting God into my emotions, thoughts, and beliefs, but when I’m in shutdown I literally don’t know what’s happening or what I need to do to get through it and therefore don’t know how to get to a place where I even remotely believe what I know to be true about God.
@spiritmindbody...10 ай бұрын
Like I said in the interview, the divine bargain - heal me and I'll help others - is a good way to balance service and self-interest. The idea is healing occurs to be of use to God and others. I wasn't any use to anyone when I was totally sick.

@@thetrapkitYou’re describing pantheism, not Christianity. Did you hang the stars? Me neither. We’re not “one” with God Almighty, the creator of the universe, although I believed that lie for 25 years while I was well meaning but lost & deceived in the new age. We are made in the image of God designed to reflect God’s will & the attributes of Jesus, but we’re not gods. Christianity is about exalting our Lord & Savior, not ourselves. Jesus, fully God & fully man, lived a perfectly sinless life, paid the debt of our sins on the cross, was buried & rose again in the 3rd day. Your swami is not God incarnate & neither are you & me. I pray God opens your eyes to the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ because no one gets to the Father except through him. ✝️🙏🏻💟

So for ppl with histamine intolerance and food sensitivities and constipation, do you just ignore the reactions that are triggered by eating like runny nose, itching and just ignore the constipation? I have listened to so many tms stories but i dont understand how to apply the methods to these concerns.
@ThoughtByThoughtHealing11 ай бұрын
Notice, but don’t attend to them. Be curious about the psychological cause - journal. Make a symptom timeline- etc.

What is ISTDP? What is a Nocebo?
@ThoughtByThoughtHealing Жыл бұрын
A nocebo response is a negative symptom induced by the patient’s negative expectations and/or by negative suggestion from clinical staff. In mind body syndrome - the expectation of symptoms causes the symptom. Because fear is the source of neuroplastic pain to begin with. ISTDP is a type of modality/ therapy psychologists use. Howard Schubiner talks about it in unlearn your pain. ISTDP was part of my healing also.
