That's a good yard. If I were a honeybee? I'd move in, too! Every once in awhile, I get a sting that doesn't really sink in for about 30 seconds. It hurts like normal at first, then it mashes on the gas pedal. Like getting kicked in the junk, but more acute.
@beefriendlychannel79653 жыл бұрын
@ObamfSPIKE i give Rooster static about getting stung up. Truth be known, I get my lunch ate at least once a week. It's just nice knowing I'm not the only one! Some of these other keepers act as if it never happens to them. That's why I'm a loyal viewer here. This channel (our host) is honest about what really happens. Respect to the ladies for being loyal and putting their life down to protect the queen. People new to this learn from people true to this. All joking aside, mad respect to the Rooster for not editing out the ugly truth of it.
@beefriendlychannel79653 жыл бұрын
@ObamfSPIKE Exactly. My catch phrase is "I get stung, so you don't have to." Part of NOT getting stung is knowing what makes them angry. That ceiling fan splattering bee guts everywhere could explain a few things, but I'm not going to tell the Rooster that. Ill just sit here and enjoy the show.
@markmurphy83033 жыл бұрын
Anyone that ever tells you they never get stung working with bees ain’t telling you the truth every beekeeper gets stung it’s part of the job and that’s a fact even through the best bee suit money can buy you can get stung.
@beefriendlychannel79653 жыл бұрын
@@markmurphy8303 i work bees BECAUSE I got stung as a small boy. I was so backwards, that I remember being angry with the bee over it. Now that I'm older and more wise, I get angry with myself for making her have to do that. They put their life down for the survival of their queen and sisters on instinct alone. Mad respect to the ladies.
@beefriendlychannel79653 жыл бұрын
@@markmurphy8303 oh, and yes. I avoid any stings. It's not about the pain, but about one less bee showing up for work in the morning. Once in awhile they get caught between the folds of my clothing or in the armpit when I'm reaching up, then my arm comes down on her. Maybe in the gap on my sleeve between the buttons or under the glove (just regular work gloves). If the clothes are just a tiny bit thicker than the stingers, they tend to just scratch the skin a little. I had one today drain itself into my hand because I thought it was on the outside. Little did I know she got inside the glove until I took it off in the truck. My hand looks like a burrito as a result, but again... it was my fault, not hers.

I usually don't buy honey from the store. Because of pasteurization and processing it just doesn't taste right, besides that, a lot of the time it's mostly just high fructose corn syrup anyway, (Be sure to read the ingredients). I always buy my raw honey from local suppliers, usually at the farmer's market.

I would be interested in learning more about propolis and how bees make it and how they use it. Are there things that a beekeeper can learn from the quality or quantity or type of propolis ? Are there varieties of propolis ? Is propolis useful for the beekeeper ?
@quadg52963 жыл бұрын
Propolis is tree/plant resin mixed with bee saliva and a little wax. They collect the Sap/Resin when foraging. The particular make up of the propolis depends on the bee hive and what resin is locally available. And local conditions like temp and humidity. So its slightly different in every hive. Propolis is used as a traditional medicine, and by some wood instrument makers.
@charlesk10893 жыл бұрын
@@quadg5296 so do some beekeepers collect and sell propolis to the wooden instrument makers and others ? Are there any uses for propolis that beekeepers have ? If propolis is good for wooden instruments is it also good for wooden bee hives, for example ?

Get a couple of pails of soapy water and splash it up on them. They can`t breathe when the soap gets on them, and they will immediately stop whatever they are doing or thinking of doing, and fall to the ground, and begin dying. If you have to, practice with pails of plain water until you get good with your aim putting the bulk of the liquid on the fire, so to speak. I mean practice elsewhere, not on the wasps. Save the soapy splash for them. For best results, get them at night when they`re all at home. You can use hot water if you like, won`t hurt the vegetation. A good solid squirt of dish soap maybe a quarter of a cup, into the pail of water, stir it up a bit, and you`re good to go. Practice first so that you get a feel for where a pail-load is going to go when you launch it.
