Grandma Feral

Күн бұрын

When I was growing up, my parents and my grandparents all had vegetable gardens in their yards. We ate fresh vegetables all summer. Today, Grandpa and I still have a small vegetable garden in our yard. This is a recipe for a summer spaghetti sauce made with lots of fresh vegetables from the garden. Zucchini, yellow squash, peppers, onions, mushrooms, basil, parsley, and more.

Lol. I love how you both talk to each other at the end when Grandpa is taste testing Grandma's spaghetti sauce. "How's it taste Grandpa?" "Tastes great, Darling." That's so sweet to hear a couple call each other darling. And this looks so incredibly yummy with all the fresh veggies! I'm definitely going to try this recipe out soon. YUMMY YUMMY!!

The Grandparents Feral remind me so much of my own parents, happily (especially after my dad retired and they rediscovered that they were still best friends 😊💜👍) -- and I'd recommend serving this delightful sauce over vermicelli, capellini or capelli d'angeli (angel's-hair pasta).

@@semperfi818 - Oh that is so lovely to hear about successful couples who know the meaning of true love and that it's value is handed down to children. For instance, you and Eric are also best friends and maintain a long-term relationship. You do things out of love for him like try to make things that increases Eric's intake of vegetables. And it's wonderful to have happy memories of your parents. My parents were married for 57 years. I'm pretty sure they happily dance the jitterbug in heaven now.

@@srobindittrich6599 Dancing the jitterbug, eh? I'd bet good money that the couple next to them on the dance floor, doing the Lindy hop, are Rudy B and Bertha, my parents, married 48 years when my mother died of lung cancer in 08/2000. 😊💜👍 (In heaven, your knees never hurt, so you can dance more than the decorous box step that was all Dad usually managed on Earth, which meant that my mother so missed dancing that she taught me the swing dances she loved, just to have someone with rhythm to dance with.) All best to you, and hugs to dearest Magdalene.

My grandmother grew up as a farmer and had a green thumb all her life. Up until her 90's, she nearly always had a fe vegetables, more so when I was younger. She was not Italian. -- If she saw this, she would love the recipe for the fresh ingredients and abundance of veggies and honest, simple cooking. -- Mmm, that looks marvelous. I would love to fix this. -- A friend sent Cento brand a while ago, I don't recall what the blend was, but I liked it. -- Many thanks. Take care, grandma and Grandpa and Lady feral. Y'all are great.

Hi My polish Grandparents always had two gardens one was for vegetables and the other was a flower garden. So beautiful. Both my Grandfathers were gardeners on large estates on Long Island and they both rode bikes to work well into their 80’s. They both worked miles from their homes. At that time not everyone had a car so you either rode a bike or you would walk. I think that is the one reason so many people were slim. Glad to hear your Grandmother was a farmer. You are so right she would love the recipe. Have a good day❤️Grandma👩🏻Grandpa👨‍🍳& LF👱🏻‍♀️

_Salsa alla primavera,_ though it's a summer rather than springtime sauce -- this looks marvelous; with a few modifications, I'm going to be making this sauce this weekend (and seeing if it can help me get more vegetables into Eric's diet). Thanks so much, dear Grandma Feral, for sharing this wonderful recipe; your family gardens remind me so much of the lush backyard garden that my dad always put in on Long Island (zucchini every night, prepared a different way every time -- and all the fresh _basilico_ we could ever want). One small observation: if one starts with good tomatoes, one would never need to add sugar, at least in my kitchen; that said, your recipe inspires me to experiment.

When I saw the thumbnail, I couldn't wait to watch this! I love tons of veggies in my sauce (having grown up on a farm), and the pasta looked so good (especially since it is such a rare treat for me)! I usually make a meat sauce, but load it up with equal if not more amounts of onions, peppers, mushrooms, garlic, parsley, and sometimes eggplant and zucchini if I've got that hanging around as well. My Italian-American Mom (who would have been 96 Thursday) always had a giant (12 quart) pot of 'stewed vegetables', aka ratatouille, going on the stove during harvest time. Dad grew the best veggies!! (Actually, the best looking ones went to market, and we get the seconds, hence the omnipresent immense pot of veggies. They were all delicious!) Dang, now I'm going to have to break out the forbidden pasta and make up a big sauce.😋🍝

Your mom would have approved, and reminded you that such good cooking is good for the soul as well as the body, because, after all, food is love. (I hope you thought of her on her b'day with a lot of love; I can tell that you miss her deeply, and firmly believe that, wherever her spirit might be, she's still lovingly watching over you, that you remain safe and well.)
