I've always found the difference btw English and Italian in describing food very interesting. In English you have adjectives like delicious or beautiful that translated mean delizioso o bello. In Italian they are both appearance adjectives and they could only refer to the dish presentation rather than how the foods taste.

Hi Kylie, I did my field work in Anthropology with Sicilian American fisherman. My thesis had to do with the psychological reality of the phonemic system used by first generation Sicilians who learned Sicilian in the context of formal Italian in Italy vs. 2nd generation American Sicilians who learned Sicilian as a language (much like Frederick the 2nd 800 years ago). So it is the southern Italians and their dialects who will continue to drive you crazy with the hard g in famiglia and no diphthongs in uomo or grazie. Love your stuff!!

Kylie, I've been watching your vids off and on for a year. I love your style and the way you write subtext in Italian. It's very helpful in learning Italiano. I find the way you "teach" is extremely effective. We don't learn language by learning: these are the verbs, these are nouns. No, we pick it up as babies, naturally. When one is more advanced we can learn the grammar. I become flummoxed by the other Italian courses that are online.

Hello from Australia!! I first want to thank you for making such beautiful videos. I’ve just recently found you and I’m obsessed!! Not only are you beautiful to look at but I can feel your generous heart and spirit from your interactions with the people you meet on your journeys. The reason I’m writing is to tell you that I feel intuitively that if you wrote a book based on your adventures and maybe a few recipes, that it would really do well. I work at a book exchange on the Gold Coast and the Travel stories are quite popular. I’m already picturing your beautiful face on the cover😌 Look forward to watching the rest of your videos.

Kylie, your videos are wonderful! Hoping you (or another listener) can clarify one thing for me. In regards to the statement, “Ma la pasta è fatta in casa?, “ why is it not: “Ma la pasta ha fatto in casa?”? I thought fare uses the auxiliary verb avere (Barron’s 501 Italian Verbs). Thank you in advance for clarifying. Actually, I think I figured it out. In your sentence, fatta is the adjective for homemade, not a tense of the verb fare.

THanks. I spend half my time in Turin and, though I do fine, I found this helpful as you are slowing down certain phrases for me. That is, I get the gist of what is being said to me, but I often don't ask my wife/son for exact explanations of fast interactions as even I find it tiresome. Please, keep up this series. In fact, a calcio episode would be greatly appreciated as my son is a true Juventino and when I go to watch his soccer classes I'm lost. :)

For foreign tourists is essential to speak some Italian in order to make the waiter/waitress understand to take the local menu (which prices are low) and not the tourist. one (where prices are higher) . PS: In a lot of cases, if you order a coffee, like "Un caffè con amore", the coffee is free.
