Bribing is so normal in africa it’s almost a culture thing. And to be honest I’ve never paid more then 5 euro, mostly it’s even less then 0,50 cents. It’s just simply impossible to make a living with the wages that the government provides to the police (depends what country but it’s around 50 euros a month) it doesn’t make it right but I do understand why they do it.

You are not right one bit. In the foreign land like US and other international countries, they don't allow an international drivers license from Africa. Yes I had the same problem is America I was issued an international drivers license from Ghana but in America the officers never allowed me to use it so what the Cameroonian officer is doing is very very right on point. Sometimes we Africans things we are inferior to the western worlds oohh yes that's true. They don't respect our laws when they come here but they want us to respect their laws which is on fair. I just checked my International Driving Permit. There is no signature from any authority on the inside. However there is a signature printed on the front cover listed as “Authorized signature of the empowered authority”. Cameroon is listed inside right between Cambodia and Canada on the list of countries that honor the IDP. The issuing location is responsible for verifying your driving privileges in your home location at the time of issuance. You did the right thing and I’m so proud of the confident manner in which you handled the situation. Well done. Masterclass in border crossing etiquette.

Which convention is your IDP, 1949, 1968? Noraly’s is 1968 (if you pause the video, you can see the convention date) which Cameroon is not a signatory to. I’m not knocking Noraly, international travel can be a minefield, and it’s the subtle things that can catch you out.

I got nervous (after the fact, obviously) when the guy was telling your international license was not correct. In 30 years as a police officer, I encountered the Int'l license 3 times. A "stamp" or "signature"? As I remember (being retired 17 years), your County of Origin License and Int'l license, together, makes it valid, Right? As I saw this interaction he was trying to get money from you. Noraly, you ARE definitely a VERY strong woman. I'm proud of you for standing up to, what I'd call corruption. GOOD JOB👍👍. Bob in Nevada

That is correct. In the countries which an IDL is required it has to be accompanied by your country of origin license. Some countries in the EU do not require an IDL anymore. My advise to travelers is to research the traffic laws and IDL requirements of the countries one intends to visit, as it should be done by visitors into the United States who intend to operate a MV. In the case of the US the laws vary from state to state, but the idea is the same everywhere.

This border Officer guy was making a big fuzz out of nothing. He was really relentless in put you in the corner and then probably demanding something. But you firmly hold ground and demostrarte secure , strength and confidence in a really stressful situation. You are definitely a tough, wise, patience woman......And that jungle long track. My goodness. Miles and Miles of deep isolated jungle. You are lucky to reach that small village and probably found accomodations there. Imagine this road after a heavy rainfall what it could be. Probably you would be stucked in deep jungle, covered in mud, completely alone and exhausted in a deep rainforest with elephants around and all sorts of animals. Would not be a good night resting until the sun rises. Your calmness, courage and determination is inspirational. 💪
