In this episode I am crossing the border between Botswana and Zimbabwe. I stay the night at Victoria Falls and go and check out these amazing waterfalls. They are a lot more impressive than I expected, and I came a little closer to a family of warthog than I would have liked...

Warthogs will not attack unprovoked. They are not aggressive. They are, however, dangerous if cornered (or if in rut). Just never corner one. It is the lower tusks that do the damage. They are razor sharp. If they are nearby, back up slowly and give them an out. You will not out run one nearby. They can reach 55 kph (35 mph) in short bursts.

I think what a lot of people don't realize, is the difference between actually being there, and watching it on a monitor. In person, a lion's roar is deafening, and being near a giant and/or dangerous animal's electrifying, as is being near a big waterfall. Every location has its own unique ambiance, which can't be captured on a monitor. That's why traveling's addictive, and why they call it "Adventure".

Scottish explorer David Livingstone may have named the falls after his reigning queen in 1855, but the Kalolo-Lozi people had their own name for it - Mosi-oa-Tunya, “the smoke that thunders.”

Great stuff. I love Africa! I have made a dozen trips to UGANDA, the Pearl of Africa, and have grown to love all of the Continent. So much diversity and the people are so welcoming and amazing--even for us Muzungus. Been around many warthogs in Uganda, they are definitely not afraid of people and hang around a lot of the hotels. Safe travels.

@@chrisg1234fly I get what you're saying. I'm from Angola and your description reminds me how things used to be in the 80s and 90s. Today things are much different. I bought a new car two years ago and the registration process took 2 days. I get your point but it really depends on the country. Some countries are still stuck in the old ways but others are quite good. Maybe if you mention the name some specific countries it will be easier to understand.

@No sugar No cream You are acting as if there's no tribal and religious divisions in Africa, and often times very severe and xenophobic ones. What you said is insulting to the many who have been killed, kidnapped and humiliated by others on the continent. You wrote that like you're a Pan-African nationalist from AMERICA, who knows nothing about the intricate and complicated history of Africa. I think you are much more intelligent than that, though. So just think, understand, that it's not so easy for Africans IN Africa.

The wildlife of Africa is truly a sight to behold. Many countries are scaling back the traditional firearm shooting safaris in favour of shooting animals with a camera. You still experience all the wildlife while leaving them alive for future generations to enjoy. There are still men and women who feel the need to kill a large animal in order to bolster a flagging ego, but thankfully these people are small in numbers and appear to be headed the way of the dodo bird which was a large, flightless bird of the South Pacific hunted to extinction by Europeans a couple of centuries ago. Much respect for these trips you have taken, and for future endeavours still to come.
