The Inca cut their stones flat on the back side and slightly slanting in the front. This way, in the event of an earthquake, the stones would slightly slide in against one another, reinforcing a wall. That is one reason why the Spanish used stones taken from Inca buildings for the foundations of their colonial buildings in Cuzco, for example. And why those buildings are still standing when more modern ones have collapsed. The finer the stonework, the more important the Inca building.

I’m amazed by old buildings and how well made they are. My next door neighbour lives in an old log house and they had it carbon dated. The oldest part of the house was dated to year 1560. They sure knew how to build back in the days. Happy holidays from the northern part of Sweden.

Remarkable what a developed culture the indiginous people of South-Amarica had. For them, the sun was their God and given the fact that gold has the colour of the sun, gold incorporated in a certain manner the spirit of God. The Spanish conquerors saw only the material value of the gold and for that reason they robbed the gold of the Inca's. I can understand that for the Inca's this meant war, because the conquistadores attacked their God. A tragic history indeed. Thank you, Noraly, for this very interesting and even fascinating visit!

That was great. I had traveled a month with the then 1975 president of Latin American Archeology Foundation and we saw many cultural sites. There is a movement by some to say the good stone work that was done was pre-Inca culture . But here we have a culture that knows itself prior to Inca, and they have their own stone works. Clearly they know that Inca did carve stones with this level of quality fittings, the most precise works of stone fitting of world cultures. So many mind boggling builds they did, including stone works with stones of 18 tons, and then cart them up and down mountains. Just amazing. Thanks Noraly

Wow! I went to this place in the late 1970s and it was no place you could walk to! There was no town nearby and I wondered if it was really the same place from looking only at the Canari ruins because they were not even cared for back then. As soon as I saw the Inca ruins I knew that it was the same place and I was so glad that no one had tried to rebuild the site. There is a geological site you need to see North on what is now a back road between Quito and Otovalo on the road to Tabacundo. There is (or was) a place where you can see what I assume are sedimentary layers of rock FOLDED neatly over each other at least 7 layers thick in the roadside! I would love to hear your commentary on how this came to be. I have several theories of my own but woulf love to hear what a real geologist thinks! Enjoy my Ecuador!
