‪@baldandbankrupt‬ and ‪@BackpackerBen‬ left with me to the sleepy village of Na Trang to bustling Saigon. A few coconuts, another communist train and the wild streets of Saigon collapse this epic adventure into an unexpected ending. Can Ben and I be reconciled? A story of drama, conflict, underground markets, motorbike girls and a heartfelt tribute to those who went before me.

I visited Nha Trang in 1967 on a WW2 LST (Landing ship, Tank), we beached near the southern end to offload our cargo, the beach was beautiful and bare as far as the eye could see. A few of us took a dusty ride north to about where you guys were and then west to a village near where the train station is and found a couple beers. Almost every wall had broken glass and barbed wire on top. The beach was incredibly beautiful at the time and we enjoyed "holiday routine" Sunday. It's a thrill in my old age to see these places again thanks to Google Earth and KZbin, and be able to locate exactly where I was in my many pictures...One memory is watching a dog on the beach as we approached, he turned and ran a bit to late as our bow wave washed him up the beach...Cheers and Best Wishes to the people of Viet Nam.

It's easy AF to be sitting where ever you're at with all the good things and living the way you're, living nice n comfy watching KZbin to have a opinion over "was it right or wrong".... I'd say you'd ask a few South Vietnamese that would be damn glad the US was around, and I'm sure there's some who weren't. I wasn't ever there in any capacity, virtually 0 impact if not absolutely 0 impact from it so I'm not qualified to say if I'd be happy or unhappy.....guess it would come down to who hurt you and your family personally...the NVA wasn't exactly innocent either along with the other participants.

I was at the War Remnants Museum in February. It is definitely a must see. When I looked at the gracious people and saw how kind they were to me with the background of what we did to them it was and is unsettling. We, as a country, have never experienced what they did. From carpet bombings, phosphorus bombs, napalm bombs and Agent Orange, we can’t imagine what that experience was like. And on the same bad advice from the CIA, we continue to fight never ending, un winnable wars that only kills soldiers and civilians to support money laundering and wasting trillions of dollars. In Da Nang I met a woman who, to this day, volunteers at an Agent Orange orphanage. Agent Orange is generational. And for what to stop the merciless expansion of the Red Chinese? Wasn’t that the reason we were told by the CIA? How many wars has China been in and how many have we been in since Vietnam? Who really is the aggressor?

@@TimKyoutube Exactly why the 1st attack by the enemy was the America's energy independence and then siphoned the strategic oil reserves to the enemies. War is the best avenue to launder money and fatten the system. How can you account where the money went when they claim they blew up or were spent for any operation? And if war is funded under a guise of a "grant" or "aid", it's basically a giveaway (10% for the Big Guy and others?). All nations involved in the so-called "war" would have to take loans from the banks who own majority of the governments. The banks keep the countries perpetually indebted, except for Russia which is now debt-free. Goodbye petro dollar, hello digital currency.

@@DAVEBROWNE2004nah that was disdain dislike and contempt on his face every time Tim looked his way. It’s the kind of person who flourishes in a society who protects them from getting smacked in the face. He was asking for it imo.

Very good stuff, Tim. Enjoyed this series greatly. So many one liners, so little time. ^_^ i think you and RG could do something fun like this in PH, but get the under helmet walkie-talkie mics for the road journey. You guys could potentially pull off a great road series. All the best to you and family.

Vietnam is 10 times nicer and better than Philippines. Friendlier (intelligent) people, much better service, cleaner beaches, food healthier and better, cheaper anyway and Buddhist culture and not crap Catholic (punishment stuff) and better infrastructure (trains, streets). I loved Vietnam when I was there 🙏

I disagree 90% So you sampled every beach in the Philippines ? Agree on the food, the worst food in S.E.A. - they don't gut the fish or clean the shrimps, which is puzzling.

Nice beach bar. Walking across the street looks like a Frogger game where you try to avoid getting smashed by the cars. Nice hotel and infinity pool. Nice to visit with folks from the Philippines while at the train station. Riding those cycles downtown Saigon just looks like an accident waiting to happen with everybody zipping this way and that way. Egg coffee? 🙂 I saw somebody riding side saddle in back I imagine that wouldn't be too safe. Great collaboration thanks for sharing!

Big shout out to Bald and Ben, their contribution to the vlog was priceless. Safe travels home and a Merry Christmas to you and your family.

On the Vietnamese war I'd like to raise a point rarely discussed. Let's face it, the US in this war fought for the free South Vietnam just as they did in the Korean war. Unfortunately they lost the Vietnam war, and we all seen what happened to Vietnam. Luckily for the Korean's they won the Korean war and at least part of the Korean peoples are enjoying freedom and prosperity. So I'd say it is very naive to say that the Americans in this case had any imperial ambitions and "invaded" Vietnam as many are trying to present now (that is very much Soviet prospective to this war and no one should be fooled by it).

Some valid points. Thanks for sharing. Main thing I would say is that it is unfair to view world events in the rearview with 2022 glasses.
@washubrain
@washubrain Жыл бұрын
@@TimKyoutube it is of course easier to see what happened in the rearview, but I guess even at the time you should have been an extreme pacifist to blindly criticise any war and this one in particular. The fight for freedom is not just a war, it is a no choice option for those under attack.

Hey Tim, fantastic series, very moving at the very last leg of the tour, happy trails, be safe in your travels back to the Phils I'm sure this will always be a cherished trip to review and have a few laughs as with revisiting the more somber moments in Vietnam. Thanks again Tim for taking us along.

Great series. I grew up in the Viet Nam Era with the news showing what was going on. The names of the cities you visited were always mentioned along with fairly graphic details of the insanity that was being played out. I was less than a year from being drafted when Nixon pulled our troops out. I had a bud on a chopper crew that helped evacuate the US embassy. I'm glad the Viet Nam people seem to be thriving. It was a senseless war.
