Another game in the Warhammer 40K universe was Epic Space Marine (as it was called back then), the marines in question being about maybe 6 or 7 mm tall. For the force I used for wargaming I had to paint about 300 or so of the little bastards plus their vehicles and some larger models. I made the stupid decision to paint chapter badges, and squad and company markings/colours on their shoulders. Because of constantly adding new miniatures to my army I never did get it finished even over several years. Looking back I should've been more practical with my gaming miniatures, and kept the fancy work for one off pieces brought for just that reason. Something I started doing way too late. I always did get miniatures I liked the look of, just for the joy of painting them. But the army became a chore. Something which I now know shows I had the balance all wrong. If I were able to still paint, I would've liked to try airbrushing but I think I would've stuck with brushes and acrylic for something so small. There are many tutorials on using a 'wet palette' something which would probably be a godsend on getting good but even coverage on something so small. I used to use washes a lot too for definition on the smaller stuff. Enjoyed the video though, look forward to more. Still loving that shipping container.

Please continue to make more Gunpla videos like this. Even if I personally will never attempt to paint pilot figures, you're like the only youtuber that takes any time at all to explain his thought process. You also treat these kits like models whereas all these other channels treat them like toys. Also you always make sure to tell people how much this crap costs in US dollars instead of Yen like every other channel. I don't know why these other channels never bother to do that. Everything now is just time lapses with music thrown on. It's nice to see some effort being put into editing and presentation. Points for also shining a spotlight on all these different tools. I learned about the God hand nippers through you and now I have two. I mostly paint in little details with gundam paint markers. It's not the best but it gives the models a little extra oomph.

Wow, this video really helped me out, I have been doing spraying for a few years but always feel scared with that little figure after two tries( which failed tremendously ) and know I know the right way to do it! This channel is so great, just what I was looking for after breaking GFW, I thought there would be some channels about gunplay maybe not much, but there's really not that many KZbinrs doing this kind of content, especially I want content about spraying and air-brushing. The other channels are mostly reviews and have very limited styles of spraying. But this channel fills that gap

Hey Gundam, firstly, nice channel, found it from your primary channel. I'm not much in to Gunpla and mostly come here for airbrush tips since the 40k community really focuses on brush work. In that vein, I dont know how much acrylic paint you use, but have you tried the Raphael 8404 series brushes? They tend to have a very sharp point and a massive body, so much so that I use the Size 1 on most 28mm miniatures, and have never found it wanting. Also, dunno where you get your brushes, but Jacksons art supply in the UK ships to the US and they are about half the price of the brushes Ive found on amazon.

Thank you for this tutorial. I've never painted anything at this scale before, but I'm jusr building my first kit(MG Deathscythe Hell EW - my favorite ridiculously badass design of all time), and even though I've grasped my mind around cutting out the peaces, properly cleaning them and putting them together, I just can't leave that pilot figure unpainted. The kit itself, I can paint later on, but the pilot is something that's going to be in the middle of the torso, and I know this one isn't going to be perfect, but I want some detail on there, so that there's something interesting to look at when you open the cockpit.

Great vid! The only kit I ever had w/ a pilot was an RG Char Z'Gok. I used a black pour type panel liner marker to bring out the details & matte acrylic paint for everything except his gun which I used a silver Gundam marker. I don't have any fine tip brushes so I used a sewing needle. Gunpla is an expensive hobby, especially for a dirt poor street musician. Oh well, gotta make due with what ya got.

I would like to add that a good optivisor with glass lenses is very useful. The GSI Creos Mr.Magnifier Lamp LP01 and the Tamiya Stand Loupe Pro 74110 are also extremely helpful. Tamiya makes one that is also apart of a workstation but that seems like overkill. Finally, both of these companies (and probably Wave) sell their own optivisor style loupes but they are outrageously expensive and most likely have plastic lenses.
@Geekeric4 жыл бұрын
As an acrylic-only guy, I had the impression that you can't use solvent-based paints over acrylics; is that true? It's hard to find panel lining medium for acrylics that cleans up without wrecking the finish beneath.

I'm a year late but really like how you made a tutorial on painting the pilot cause i myself wpuld love to paint those little ones cause I see them on detail with my naked eyes so it is such a pain to see them painted horribly just because they are small. Also the eyes! I even made a small mika head with even detailed eyes before the MG release but it turns out that the MG version of mika way way too small to what i did like the head i made was 3-4x bigger than the MG but i looked for IBO reference and I think the mika pilot in MG is too small compared to his ratio in anime. I even learned from you the name of the liquid mask. I will search here if I could buy one. Thanks for this!
