I will never understand how people can watch the absolute crapfest that is Obi-Wan, or Boba Fett, yet think this show is boring. What’s boring is watching cardboard thin characters, doing things that make no sense whatsoever, just to get to some completely unnecessary ‘memberberries’ callback that everyone jizzes out to. "Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the wise?" That was an amazing mistake. It should've stopped Episode III right in its tracks, pacing wise. Actually, it did. But thanks to Ian McDiarmid, it worked anyway. I was in the theater on opening day. Everyone was on the edge of their seats. You could hear a pin drop. All while McDiarmid chewed the scenery. It can work. Two episodes to see the situation in the Imperial detention center. Two and a half to get Kino Loy on board. And then he was all in. Meanwhile, the tension persisted across each episode, always increasing. And all the time, Loy knew: there was one way out... and he couldn't swim. Transition straight to Luthen's speech. "I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see." Both perfectly acted. Both perfectly written. Star Wars is typically space opera. _Andor_ is really serious sci-fi set in the same universe. And somehow everything-writing, acting, directing, cinematography, music (especially in Episode 12)-is just firing on all cylinders all the time. So yeah, two episodes ago I was like "I can't wait to see this reaction!"

You've seen kino's actor (Andy Serkis) perform before because you've seen lord of the rings, but you've probably never seen his face. He did all the motion capture and voice for Gollum, and he basically pioneered motion capture and facial capture for CGI characters. He was also Ceasar in the planet of the apes trilogy along with a number of other motion capture performances, one being Snoke in the star wars sequel trilogy. The fact that he's such an incredible actor is probably because of all the motion and facial capture work where every tiny expression in on his face will be picked up by the capture, so every subtle thing he does has to be intentional and controlled. It's good to see him finally getting recognition, and i think it shows that the skills you need for the kind of motion capture he's been doing are probably the same as really good acting with about twice as much on top of that because you have to perfectly act a character that isn't you, and might not even be human.

Hey, Primate! I've been away at a gaming convention in Pennsylvania since Thursday, and just got home a few hours ago (it was put on by "Too Many Games", if you're interested), so I'm still trying to catch up. But, this is one of the first videos I clicked on the second I saw it. Also, you usually enjoy my comments, so I'm hoping I'm not too late for you to see this one. Okay..... that speech by Luthen was absolutely incredible! From what I heard, to took 10 takes before HE was satisfied with the performance. The director concurred with him about the last take. But anyway....... Luthen was 100% right in what he said. He's willing to make the sacrifices necessary to restore freedom to the galaxy. Much like Saw Guerrera, he knows that he won't survive "The War" that is brewing. Luthen is even willing to allow a group of his Freedom Fighters to walk into a trap and be sacrificed for the "greater good" to "Freedom to the galaxy". Which brings the whole "grayness" of his methods into question. "How far is TOO far?" In our "real world", there's a little mentioned phrase that applies here: "One man's Terrorist is another man's Freedom Fighter". While propaganda plays heavily into the public sentiment about which is which, the fact remains that, while propaganda is used to alter the public's perception on what is happening, remember, there's always an element of truth in it. One just has to take the time to research everything from multiple (preferably conflicting) points of view on an event in order to find those shiny nuggets of truth. Once you start connecting the dots, you can figure out what's REALLY going on, and who the actual "bad guy" is. Getting back to the episode (sorry for the political diversion, but it needed to be said)... We don't KNOW for sure that Kino didn't escape. You know Star Wars, man... "No body, no death". Which is something Andy Serkis said in an interview after the episode aired, which leaves Kino's fate uncertain. You KNOW Melshi has to survive, because he dies on Skariff with Cassian. But Serkis also said that if presented with the opportunity to play Kino again, he would certainly do it. But you know Disney with their NDAs, right?

One thing I will give Disney's Star Wars is that is showing the rebellion for what it was, both good and bad. For every Mon Mothma and Bael Organa, there has to be a Saw and a Luthen. I heard someone say once that Luthen was kind of the Darth Vader of the rebellion, he believed in the cause and was willing to do anything to protect it. He also realizes that by making the hard choices he has damned himself, as he said in his speech no one will thank him for his deeds on the rebellion's behalf, if anything, those that kept their hands clean will condemn him, but he is fine with that, because without him, they would never have been able to keep their hands clean, to be the heroes the rebellion needed.

I think that before PORD (which was instigated by the heist) they were releasing prisoners on schedule. But the PORD not only extended everyone's sentences indefinitely, but also vastly increased the number of prisoners being held. They had to accept more prisoners without being able to release any. I think the prison leadership made an ad hoc decision to just start shuffling prisoners. I love the hell out of the actor playing Davo Sculdan. His body language and facial expressions were absolutely marvelous. That actor needs more work right away. Take, for instance, the body language: While Mon and Tay were sitting upright and tight, Davo was lounging back, spreading out, in control of the situation. But while Mon might be personally offended by Davo's offer, it's actually Davo taking the greater risk without really knowing it. He's just a shady businessman...she's a rebel against the empire. She can handle being a known associate to his shenanigans a lot easier than he could handle being a known associate to hers. Luthern's monologue was powerful, but it pertained to Kino as well. Kino knew the water was their barrier, and he knew he couldn't swim...when he decided to lead the escape, he knew he was working for a sunset he'd never see. We've heard that Andy Serkis appears in Season 2, but we don't know if he'll appear as Kino Loy. It's Andy Serkis...he could appear as anything. Others have mentioned Andy in some other productions. He also played the ape Caesar in the recent Planet of the Apes movies and the villain Klaw in Black Panther.

The "Cassian's words" aspect of Kino's speech is one of the cooler things about Cassian as a character. He's not a protagonist who rallies everyone and leads the charge, even though he's instrumental in making that charge happen. He sets the stage but he never takes the centre of it. He inspires others who are better suited to lead and clears the road for them while he himself does the dirty work without seeking credit. I love how stuff like this shows Cassian to be such a capable spy and the kind of 'hero' that Luthen needs.

I see a bit sentiment that THIS is the best episode of Andor Season 1 but I will first of all say: They are all such high quality that almost every episode could be the favourite for somebody. I for example think that the last episode is actually also the best one. This is definitely a great episode but while it is very hard to even narrow down one episode I think for me it would very much be the last episode. What was pretty impressive about these last few episodes however was that almost every single one instantly had iconic moments created in the StarWars Fandom. Episode 9 it was NEVER MORE THAN 12 which instantly became a meme and used for anything connected with 12 in the StarWars Universe (for example: How many Episodes has a Season of Andor? NEVER MORE THAN 12, which we already know will be the case as they confirmed only 2 Seasons with each 12 Episodes) This one it was obviously: ONE WAY OUT!!! (you should watch the panel about Andor at StarWars Celebration this year. ONE WAY OUT was used so many times by the crowd. The next one there is non if I am aware but the last one, yes: There is another one (no SPOILERS)

Why would you have a prison with no cameras, limited guards and such isolation? They're building something and only that one thing. Once someone accidentally saw two different levels (different parts being assembled) They killed everyone who knew. What are they building?

23:03 Stellan Skarsgard (Luther) has been on a few things. 2 that come to my mind are Good Will Hunting and the show Chernobyl. He’s also the father of Bill Skarsgard (who played Pennywise on the new IT movies that came out a few years ago) and Alexander Skarsgard (who was in stuff like Godzilla vs Kong, Infinity Pool, The Northman, etc). Andy Serkis (Kino) has been around for a while mostly as a motion capture/voice actor. He played Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies, Caeser in the Planet of the Apes movies here recently, King Kong in the 2005 movie, Klaw in the MCU movies, Alfred in the Robert Pattinson Batman movie, and funny enough he played Snoke in the sequel Star Wars trilogy. Thankfully he got to play a better Star Wars role this time.

Just a word: We don’t Know what happened to Kino. There are no hints, there isn’t any real theory that’s more sound than any others. Somethings are Just unknown and we may never find out. Thus is the way of war, not everyone gets a ending that’s told

Luthen's monologue is incredible. He has had to become an evil person to destroy evil. Ruthless in pursuit of a savior complex no matter the cost. Destroy his own humanity to save the rest of the galaxy, and he knows it, and knows he will never make it to see that day.

Kino's actor (Andy Serkis) has been in Star Wars before. He voiced and did the motion capture for Snoke in the sequel trilogy. He was also Ulysses Klaue in the MCU and Gollum in LoTR/The Hobbit. Luthen's actor (Stellan Skarsgård) was Erik Selvig in the MCU (primarily the first 2 Thor movies) and also "Bootstrap" Bill Turner in the Pirates of The Caribbean movies.
